A Fight That Would Change Everything

As Harry Potter, a sixteen year old student sat in the common room reading a book about Defence Against the Dark Arts, trying to update his knowledge on the subject he could hear angry voices approaching the Gryffindor common room. He was not at all surprised when the two arguing people, who the voices belonged to, entered the room. It was his two best friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.

It was not at all unusual that they argued, they did it quite often but it had been a while since their last one. Harry could only assume that this argument, as many before, was about the famous Quidditch player Viktor Krum. Hermione had once gone to a ball with him and Ron hadn't quite approved of the fact that she was going with Krum, the one who competed against Harry in the torment that was going on, or to the fact that she wasn't going with him.

'So am I right? Is the letter from him? Is it from Vicky?' shouted Ron.

Harry smiled to himself behind his book, he had been right. It had been about Krum.

'His name is Viktor! Stop calling him Vicky!' shouted Hermione back. Then she sat down in an armchair near Harry and placed her huge pile of book on the floor next to her feet.

'Just answer my question!' shouted Ron. Then he went down on his knees next to Hermione's chair. 'That's all I'm asking for, please,' he finished, looking at Hermione with puppy eyes.

Harry could tell from the look on Hermione's face that she had been really surprised by Ron's last action. She looked at Ron for a few seconds; she looked at his pleading face expression. Then she nodded.

'Yes,' she said, still nodding. 'It is from Viktor.'

Ron got up, grasping his hair, turning around. Harry for sure, for a second, that Ron would start screaming. But without turning around Ron spoke.

'What did he want?' he asked.

'That Ron, is none of your business,' said Hermione.

Harry knew that no good could come out of this, both of his friends would once again say things that they didn't really mean and a few minutes after their fight they would both regret what they had said.

'None of my business?' asked Ron while turning around.

'Yeah, that's right, none of your business,' said Hermione.

'Hermione, you keep telling me that the two of you are only friends, but still you are hiding every little detail about him from me. You are acting as though everything you have told me is a total lie,' shouted Ron.

'Ron-' Hermione began but Ron cut her off.

'I don't need any excuses Hermione, you didn't trust me enough, as a friend, to tell me that you liked Vicky,' he shouted.

'Ron-'

'No excus-'

'NO!' shouted Hermione, now she had gotten up from the armchair she was sitting in. 'Ron, listen to me. If there were anything to tell you I would have. Not right away but sooner or later I would have told you. But there is nothing to tell. I don't like Viktor like that.'

'Then why do you keep hiding stuff from me?' said Ron.

'I need to have a private life Ron. I don't need to tell you everything just like you don't need to tell me everything,' said Hermione.

'Private life?' asked Ron.

'Yes, a private life. You know stuff like guys,' said Hermione.

'Guys like Viktor Krum?' asked Ron.

'Ron stop focusing on Viktor. There is nothing going on between us!' shouted Hermione.

At this the common room was empty, Harry wasn't at all surprised. This usually happened when Ron and Hermione were fighting.

'So,' said Ron. 'You can honestly tell me that you haven't kissed him, can you look me in the eyes and tell me that you haven't kissed Viktor Krum?'

'For heavens sake Ron-'

'You have kissed him, haven't you?' said Ron.

'No Ron. I haven't kissed him, I haven't kissed anyone,' said Hermione. 'And even if I had why would it matter?'

'Why not?' asked Ron, looking completely stunned. 'I mean-'

'Ron, just drop it. Just drop it!' shouted Hermione.

'Hermione, I just want to know the truth!' shouted Ron back. Harry had the feeling that Ron felt very betrayed and hurt.

'The truth? You want the truth?' asked Hermione.

'Yes,' said Ron.

Hermione looked at him and nodded.

'OK, Ron. If you want the truth I'll tell you the truth,' she said. 'Six years ago I was riding this train and I entered this compartment. Inside the compartment were two boys, the same age as me. One of them had dark, black hair and glasses, the other boy was taller, he had red hair and freckles and these ocean blue eyes. Later the three of us became best friends. Four years later I met this other guy; he was four years older than me. We went to this stupid ball together and later he asked me to spend the summer with him in Bulgaria. The summer came and I spent it with the red headed boy I had met on the train five years earlier. At that point we had not only become best friends but I had also realised that I was in love with him. Now, a year later I'm telling that same boy this story, the story that in this case only have two endings coming up tonight. Either I tell this boy that it was a mistake that I stepped into his compartment on the first train ride to our school, and that I wish I had never done that. Or I tell him what I've been wanting to tell him for ages, the fact that I'm so in love with him and that-'

'-I love you,' finished Ron. Hermione nodded.

'That I love you,' she said.

Harry was really impressed by the way Hermione was telling Ron how she felt, it seemed as though she had been planning that forever. That she had been working on that speech for a really long time and she had been dying to get it out. Then Harry caught the glimpse of what was just happening,

Ron and Hermione had walked up to each other as if they had been drawn. Now, Ron had cupped Hermione's face in his hands and brought his face towards it. Pressing his lips on top of hers. That innocent kiss had in a few seconds grown very passionate.

Harry couldn't stand this; OK he was happy for them of course he was but seeing them making out like that... Had to wait. He got up, grabbed his books and walked up to the two of them.

'OK, look. I'm really happy for you, that you finally have told each other how you feel,' said Harry. 'To tell the truth it's been driving me mad. But, do you have to do that in front of me?'

Ron looked at him and smiled. Then he nodded.

'Yeah, we have to do this in front of you, Harry,' said Ron. 'I mean, if we had told each other this a few years ago you would have had to watch this for the past few years of your life.'

'OK, you can do that in front of me,' said Harry. 'But then you have to face the fact that you will have to watch me doing that in front of you.'

Ron nodded.

'Yeah, why not?' he said, placing his arm around Hermione's waist.

'Cause I'll be doing it with your sister,' said Harry smiling.

The look on Ron's face was priceless.

'So enjoy your new girlfriend and your time together,' said Harry smiling before he took the flight and ran upstairs to the boys dormitory. Halfway up, he looked back at Ron and Hermione.

'By the way if Hermione kisses better than Ginny then you are damn lucky,' he said smiling teasingly.
