Chapter One
Harry sat on his bed; he didn't move, only sat there, with his eyes unfocused. The night before he had made the decision to leave Privitt Drive. Living with the Dursleys wasn't unbearable, but living without Sirius was. It seemed to him that everywhere he went someone was put in danger, or ended up dead. That was something Harry couldn't live with. Before this day Harry would receive a letter from Hermione or Ron, or one of the Order members, and usually everyday Harry would reply saying that everything was fine and nothing strange was going on, which was actually true for once.
So far this summer Harry had kept himself in check, not getting overly emotional, and doing his chores silently and quickly. The Dursleys didn't mind this change, and left him mostly alone. Dudley was still afraid from the previous summer and wouldn't go near Harry. Which left Harry alone on the whole of the day, so leaving would be an easy task, unless he still had people following him which he assumed he did. They would be easy enough to lose, with the plan Harry had devised last night. Everything was ready to go, he only waited on the letter that should soon be arriving.
Right on schedule an owl started tapping on his window carrying a rather thick letter. Usually his letters would only be a few paragraphs long. However taking this letter and giving the owl some treats, Harry could tell that the letter was at least three pages. Slowly opening it, and quickly skimming through the letter, there also seemed to be different handwriting on various pages and quite a few signatures at the bottom. Sighing Harry started from the beginning.
'Dear Harry
This is Hermione; they just moved all of us from the Burrow to the Headquarters. Even Bill and Charlie are staying here with us. Its been a lot of fun, the twins blow something new up at least twice a day, but since they are of age, they can use magic whenever they want. I think that Mrs. Weasley is going to 'off with their heads' one of these days. It's actually quite amusing. Wait I meant it's not funny at all, Mrs. Weasley is glaring at me now.'
Harry frowned, how could they be having fun at Sirius's old house? Of course, they didn't have to worry about him here, as long as they were all together there they would be fine.
'Actually, Harry its kind of unnerving me the way all of the adults are standing around me like this. Anyway I hope you've finished all of your homework by now; Ron, Ginny and I all have. If and when you get here you had better have it done because that would be pretty shameful if you had to sit alone, while we were off, just because you didn't finish.'
"Well at least I know that won't happen. I'm not going to be there." Harry thought to himself.
'Oh and guess what! Ron asked me to go out with him! It was so romantic. He had his mom make my favorite food; then had candles and everything it was like a real date in a fancy restaurant, but in the kitchen. Isn't Ron just the best? Well I think that my turn is up now since everyone is giving me strange looks. I'll see you soon Harry!'
At least they had each other, Ron has liked Hermione since their second year, I'd say it was about time. The next writing Harry could tell was Ron's, because compared to Hermione' neat cursive Ron had a sloppy chicken scratch that was barely legible.
'Hey mate, Hermione wasn't supposed to tell you about us yet. I wanted to do it cause you're my best friend and I think that's just my duty. Ya know? Hermione was right about the adults though they are acting like something is about to happen at any moment. Its kinda freaking me out, Moody is all haughty and his magical eye is spinning like crazy. Mum has been cleaning almost all day, until we started the letter. And now even McGonagall and Dumbledore are here. I guess they came last night around midnight, and have been discussing things together in whispers. Fred, George, and I have been trying to listen to them with the extendable ears but we keep getting caught. Oh glares, I don't think I was supposed to tell you that.'
Of course, you're not really supposed to tell me anything, it's the keep Harry in the dark game.
'When we were still at the burrow I practiced all day for keeper, but I don't think I'm much better, maybe when you come here we can do a little in one of the bigger rooms. Speaking of which since we've been here, we found at least four new rooms. It's so awesome I know you'd love it!'
I can't believe that Ron is actually going through Sirius house. This angered Harry, they had no right to go though his house, and maybe he didn't want any of those rooms to be messed with! Harry took a deep breath and continued reading.
'Remus just arrived; I don't know where he's been but man Harry he looks like hell. Well mate, my turn is up, I can tell by the way that Mum is looking at me, scary. I'll talk to you soon!'
Harry shifted a bit, of course Remus would look bad, its just past the full moon. Molly Weasley was up next.
'Harry dear, I haven't been hearing good things lately, and I just wanted you to know that you are really only safe at your relatives house or here at the Headquarters. Please don't do anything foolish to get yourself into trouble. You're practically one of the family, lets keep it that way.'
Harry reread what Mrs. Weasley wrote, what had she been hearing? And why would she write to stay at the Dursleys, when only yesterday had he decided to actually leave? Harry looked back to what Ron wrote, McGonagall and Dumbledore had arrived last night around midnight, that's when Harry was planning his departure. But how could they have known that, it wasn't like he was talking out loud. Reading a little faster Harry continued. Instantly he spotted McGonagall's hand writing, he had seen it every year since he started at Hogwarts.
'Mr. Potter, you will absolutely not be leaving the protection of the Dursleys. I don't know what brought on this sudden thought of stupidity but I do however know that in light of the events of last year you need to listen to my instructions and stay there. We will be coming to take you someplace safe shortly. Do not leave or we will be forced to take action. Please Harry for your own safety stay where you are.
Sincerely Professor M. McGonagall.'
There were other signatures at the bottom of the page by people who wrote in the letter and others that hadn't. How could they have known that Harry was leaving? Quickly Harry gathered the backpack that he put all of his important stuff into and started to leave his room. If they were coming shortly, Harry didn't want to be there when they did. He couldn't go back to Sirius' home, it was too soon after what happened. As soon as Harry touched the handle to his room, a 'pop' was heard from behind him.
"Mr. Potter." Harry heard his Head of House say from behind him.
"Yes?" He said crisply, and turned around to look that the old witch's face.
"We are leaving now." She said pulling out a portkey from her pocket.
"Yes," Harry said nodding his head, "but I'm not leaving with you." Harry opened his door and ran down the stairs. He didn't hear McGonagall coming after him, but soon figured out why. In the kitchen all of the Dursleys sat with Remus, Harry rushed pass them and opened the front door. Standing behind it was none other than Mad-Eye Moody. Harry searched for another way out, but knew there wasn't one. "I'm not going back there." Harry said in a commanding voice to Moody.
McGonagall's footsteps were coming down the stairs, "Harry, this will be easier if you just take hold of the portkey."
Remus came out from the kitchen, "Harry."
"No, I'm not going back there. I don't even know how you can stand to stay there!" Harry said firmly turning to look at no one in particular. "I wont, will not, never for the rest of my living days, which wont be too long, go back there!"
McGonagall reached out what seemed to be a comforting hand, Harry later found out that her ring was the portkey and as soon at it touched Harry they were transported to the Headquarters. Once they landed in the hall of Grimmauld Place Harry tried to get out, but he was blocked on all sides. Deeming that they knew he was going to leave the Dursleys, they probably figured that he would try and leave the moment he got there. Tonks, Snape, Dumbledore, Molly, and McGonagall were all now surrounding him. McGonagall's hand was still on his shoulder, but something strange happened.
The scar on Harry's forehead started to burn slightly, and then it intensified sending Harry to his knees. Faintly he heard Moody and Remus ask what was going on, and again the pain seemed to triple. During this, Harry hadn't said a peep, and McGonagall was now next to him on the ground. "Harry?" She asked softly.
The pain was so bad that he forgot where he was and who was with him, "who are you?" He asked strained.
McGonagall sent Dumbledore a worried glance, "Professor McGonagall, your Head of House."
"Oh," Harry replied, "will you be saving me then", not a moment after he finished his sentence the pain seemed to burst forth from his forehead, and he screamed. His back arched in an outlandish position. McGonagall tried to sooth the screaming boy, while Molly went to get Poppy. Snape poured some unknown potion down Harry's throat, but all it seemed to do was make it worse.
Harry was detached from his body, he no longer felt the pain, but he could hear himself screaming. Images flashed trough his mind. Muggles of various ages being tortured, Death Eaters laughing while killing whole families at a time. Then he saw Voldemort; he was forced into his mind seeing things as Voldemort saw them and feeling his emotions. He was standing in front of only a few Death Eaters. One by one, spoke to each Death Eater and then would swiftly kill them with those two fatal words. Although all of Harry's other sense were perfectly clear, he couldn't make out Voldemort's voice, it was warped, slowing and speeding up, a jumble of sounds. It happened in slow motion, Voldemort walked to each person and took off their mask. The first two people he didn't know, but as soon as he saw the dead face of one Severus Snape, he instantly woke up and immediately stopped screaming.
Harry's vision swirled for a moment then it came into focus. People were kneeling around him, extremely worried expressions on their faces. Harry swayed a bit, then locked eyes with Snape. "Voldemort." Harry breathed out. "I was him, killed you." Harry's sentence was broken and Snape narrowed his eyes. Harry tired again. "Inside his mind. He killed you, I killed you." This seemed to convey his meaning, but suddenly Harry's face turned green and he retched. He retched all over his Head of House. Harry was just as shocked as McGonagall, and dizzily tired to speak, "Sorry Profe-." But Harry never finished his sentence; he had passed out on her shoulder narrowly missing his own mess.
