War Cry

Faramir drabble. The thoughts of the man who would be Steward as he prepares to retake Osgiliath.

"You will reclaim Osgiliath for your lord," he commands us, handing me my sword just as he once did for my brother. I alone see his face twist with reproach. "Do not fail me again," he sneers.

"It is not for you that I do this," I murmur, but he has gone. I square my shoulders towards the east, the hooves of my mount ringing on the cobbles. And as I pass the gates of this city for what will certainly be the last time, I whisper two words that resound like a battle cry in my heart.

"For Boromir."
