Chapter one: Bumping into Yugi
“Ra has given us yet another beautiful day, wouldn’t you agree, Princess Teana?” asked Priestess Isis of the Temple of Ra.
Teana’s sapphire eyes were gazing down at the simmering water of the Nile River. When she realized that Isis was talking to her she quickly looked up to answer her friend. “Oh...uh, yes! It is a beautiful day.”
“But you don’t seem quiet interested in it. Is there something on your mind, princess?”
Teana sighed sadly. “I’m sorry for my rudeness, Isis. I’ve just been having so many things on my mind lately. I don’t know where I am right now. Please forgive me.”
“But of course I can forgive you. I can tell that a lot has been on your mind. Could it mostly be about your marriage to the pharaoh this summer?”
Teana smiled at her. “I knew you were going to ask me about that some time in the near future.”
“Can you blame, princess? Practically every girl in the country would do anything to be engaged to the great pharaoh of Egypt. Am I right?”
“That’s probably true.”
“But for what reasons? They all went to marry him because he’s rich. Though, I know you’re different. Even though you have more than most you still love to help those in need. You would do anything without a reward to help a friend in need. I believe that’s why Yami cares so deeply for you. You should feel very honored that he choose you out of all of the princesses and maidens in the land to be married to.”
“I am honored, Isis. I’m glad that Yami feels I’m worthy enough to be his queen. I just hope I don’t fail with his feelings for me.”
Isis placed a hand on her shoulder. “You won’t, Teana. You are everything the pharaoh needs and more. He loves you and he wants to marry you. I can see it in his eyes every time he looks at you. The only question is do you feel the same about him?”
“You know I love him, Isis. It’s just sometimes I feel marriage should be more about love. Marriage is about commitment, trust, love, honor, and heart. And without even one of things I believe Ra does not think the marriage is right.”
“All that matters is that you and Yami believe that the marriage is right. Then I know Ra will see you through the rest. Teana, you are to be the queen of Egypt in just two months, and if you don’t feel your marriage to Yami is right then you must tell him.”
“It’s not that I don’t believe the marriage is right. I just don’t think it’s ready. Maybe Yami and I should hold it off just a few more months. I’m not sure if I can marry him in just two months. I mean, I did just get engaged to him a week ago. Don’t you think we’re going too fast?”
Isis eyed her. “Is there something you haven’t told me, Teana?”
Teana looked at her confused. “Of course not, Isis. I tell you everything I know. You’re one of my best friends and I know I can trust you with anything I say.”
“As do I, my young friend.”
Isis looked up the sun. “It is almost noon, Teana. You need to get to the palace. Remember, the pharaoh is expecting you there shortly for lunch.”
“Yes, I know. I’m going. But just before I go I would like to thank you for talking to me again. Your words are wisdom to me and I will think of them wisely. Remember to say hello to Malik and Shadi for me, please. And thank you again.”
“Take care, princess,” Isis called out to her. Then Teana ran off to the palace.

Teana was almost at the palace front gate when she knocked into someone. “Ow!” they both cried out.
Teana winced in pain. ‘I guess I should have paid more attention to what was in front of me. Ow! That really hurt. Maybe next time I’ll look where I’m going.’
She untangled herself from the unknown person. After getting up and brushing herself off she looked forward to see who the person was that she bumped into.
“Prince Yugi!” she gasped. While bowing to him like she was in a lower rank, she said, “Oh, I’m so sorry. I had no idea that I bumped into you. A thousand apologies, your Highness. Please forgive me.”
Lifting her chin to see her face, he answered her in a calm voice. “It’s quite all right, Teana. There’s no need to apologize. It was only accident after all. And please, I would rather you call me Yugi like everyone else does in the palace. I believe using a person’s real name is important than your rank of class. Don’t you agree?”
Teana blushed. “Yes, Prin- I mean Yugi. I do indeed agree.”
“So where are you off to now?”
That’s when it hit her. “Oh, I completely forgot! I’m suppose to meet your brother for lunch right now. I better go before he starts to worry.”
“Then go. But if my brother does worry please tell him that it was my fault for your delay.”
“Yugi, I could never do that. Besides, I was the one that forgot. I will take full blame for my actions, no questions asked. I wouldn’t want you to get into trouble by him anyway.”
Yugi smiled. “That’s what I like about you, Teana. You always know just what to do to make someone happy. You’re always giving back and being strong. I can see why my brother cares so much for you. And just between you and me, I think he’s the lucky one.”
Teana blushed even harder the second time. “Thank you, Yugi. That’s very kind of you to say.”
“It wasn’t kindness, Teana. I was only speaking straight from the truth.”
“Well, either way I’d like to say thank you. I’ll see you tonight at dinner. Goodbye.”
“Goodbye, Teana.”

“What could be taking her so long?” asked Yami. He was waiting for Teana alone in his chambers. His soft, silk made shoes dragged up and down the room. “Teana knows I get worried about her if she’s late.”
“Hello Yami,” Teana said to him as she walked into his room.
A bright smile went across his face as he saw his fiancé walking in the room.
“Oh, there you are, Teana. I’ve been so worried about you,” he explained his distress while giving her a light kiss on the lips and hugging her gently.
“I’m sorry to have kept you waiting, Yami. I kind of ran into your brother earlier and I completely forgot about the time.”
“Yugi? You ran into Yugi? Did you need to tell him something?”
“No, I mean I really did run into him. It was all on accident, of course, but he completely understood. I must admit that your brother is very kind. Maybe even too kind at times.”
“That’s Yugi for you. I’ve barely ever since him get mad at anyone. He’s a lot like you, Teana. Have you ever noticed that before?”
“No, I never have. But I guess that we are a lot alike in some ways, huh? That’s kind of weird.”
Yami stopped Teana’s talking about his brother by holding her fragile body gently and softly speaking, “Let’s just have lunch, love. We can talk about my brother any day, but right now all I want to do is sit down with you, have lunch, and look into your eyes.”
Teana smiled softly and looked into his eyes lovingly. “Yes, my pharaoh. Sorry for the interruption. I promise it won’t happen again.”
Yami gently took Teana’s hand and led her to a table prepared with food on his balcony that overlooked the long desert sands.
“I had my servants prepare all of your favorite kinds of food. I knew you wouldn’t mind.”
“Oh, Yami! That’s so sweet of you, but you didn’t have to do that. We could have had anything you wanted to eat, really. I wouldn’t have minded at all.”
Gently slipping his hands and arms around her waist, he responded. “I know, but this time I wanted what you wanted. You know, you might as well get use to this sort of kind of thing, my love. You are going to be my queen soon and I want everything to be perfect. I already know I found the perfect woman, so all I need now is how to make her feel happy.”
Teana gave him a kiss on the cheek. “Just be yourself, Yami and love me for who I am. That’s all I ask for.”
Yami smiled. “I understand. So let’s have lunch. I’d love to hear about your day so far.”

“Okay, so tell me again. What happen between ya and da princess earlier?” Jono asked.
Yugi rolled his eyes at his best friend. He was starting to get annoyed by all of his questions about Teana.
“Nothing happened, Jono. All I said was Teana accidentally bumped into to me earlier while going to see Yami for lunch. That’s all that happened, okay?”
“Yeah, sure. Whatever, man. If ya don’t want ta tell me what happened I can take uh hint.” Whispering to himself, “I’ll just ask Teana myself later and get all da juicy details.”
Now Yugi was really annoyed. ‘Sometimes I wish Jono would just shut up and go away with his crazy ideas.’ “You do realize that Teana is getting married to Yami soon, right? You don’t actually think that she would be interested in me, do you?”
Jono looked over at his friend and gave him an evil looking smile. “Do ya really want me ta answer dat, Yug?”
Yugi threw his hands me in the air. “Okay, I give up. Jono, listen to me. I don’t what’s going on in your mind right now, but I can assure you that Teana doesn’t like me in the way you think she does.”
“And if dat was true, how would ya feel ‘bout dat?”
“I wouldn’t care. I’m happy for Teana. She’s going to marry Yami and I know she’ll be happy with him. And that’s it. There’s really nothing else to say. I don’t know why you’re pushing this. It’s really starting to bug me.”
“Yeah, yeah. Get uh grip, Yug. Don’t ya see dat I’m just tryin’ ta look out for ya, man? I just wanna make sure dat you’re okay with Teana about ta get married ta your brother.”
“I’m fine with it, Jono. You don’t have to always worry about me. Besides, the odds are I’m never even going to see Teana has more than a big sister or a friend.”
