Eyes on Someone Else’

Chapter fourteen: What lies ahead

The third eye glowing and gleaming on his forehead gave away the truth in an instant. He quietly stepped out of the shadows without a hint of detection towards worrisome matters or concern. His strong and daring-without-fear face expression matched perfectly with his bold violet eyes. No one in all the land of Egypt could look more serious than he, the mighty Pharaoh.

“My lord,” Priest Karim was the first to speak, and though his voice was still steady as before, it was also filled with obvious worry towards their ruler. “What brings you out of bed at this time of night?”

Yami’s eyes averted from all three priests directly towards Karim, barely shifting at all. “I was just about to ask you the exact same question. Yugi should have seen you all at the Temple by now. Where is he?”

Priestess Isis cleared her throat and spoke up as quietly as ever with fear in her sky blue eyes. “He has not returned yet, my pharaoh. Caution has impended around our Millennium Items and we all ended up at the palace in request of a search before we could see the young prince. I am afraid to say that Mahado’s Item brings the highest concern of all. The disturbance runs through the Ring and—”

“We can see that, Isis,” Karim cut her off with an annoyed tone of voice again. “We’re not blind as you might already think we are.”

The tall, Egyptian woman looked hurt by the priest’s words as her eyes lowered softly with no response.

“That will be enough, Karim. Priestess Isis was only trying to help—but yes, I can see the disturbance in Mahado’s Item. I also sensed it while I was attempting to wake up Jono for help not long ago,” Yami defended his faithful female servant of Ra.

“Jono?” Mahado repeated the young prince’s best friend’s name in confusion. “My lord, why were you waking Jono in the middle of the night for? Is something the matter?”

“Besides what’s around your neck?” Karim reminded him, slightly angered still.

“I was trying to wake up Jono because the princess was kidnapped by someone earlier tonight. That was why I sent Yugi and Shimon to send for your help at the Temple. We must find her before it’s too late,” Yami informed them with concern in his voice for the first time in the late night conversation.

“Yes, of course, my lord,” Mahado answered calmly to his master and bowed in his respects.

“Isis, do you know exactly where Prince Yugi and the others are at the moment?” Karim turned to her and asked more gently, hoping to get an answer from her and the Millennium Necklace.

She already knew the answer to that question because of her Item’s visions. “Yugi and the others are at the Temple momentarily.”

“What do you mean momentarily?” Yami was now suspicious of Isis’s short answered words. “Is Yugi leaving the Temple to come back here?”

“No he isn’t, my pharaoh. It just so happens that he and the others are about to go off into the outskirts to look for the princess because Kisara had a vision of Teana’s whereabouts not too long ago.”

“Did you just say Kisara had a vision of Princess Teana’s whereabouts? How is that even possible? Only keepers of the Millennium Items could have such power or at least be of royal origin,” Mahado answered with complete shock.

“Not necessarily, Mahado. Some people in Egypt are exceptions to the rule and do not need to be of royal origin to attain magical powers, I’m afraid to say.”

“Like Bakura, for instance,” Yami spoke up again to exemplify Isis’s truthful statement. “He isn’t of royal origin, though he can still somehow conjure magic because of his connection to the Millennium Ring and the unimaginable evil within him.”

“We must all be prepared for what lies ahead…” whispered words poured out from Karim’s lips as everyone knew this was true.

“Thank you, Kisara. Thank you so much!” Yugi hugged his quiet and shyly naïve friend with joy. “You have no idea how much this means to me. If you hadn’t had a vision of Bakura and Teana then I don’t know what I would have done. I will be eternally grateful for what you've—”

“Yes, yes, we’ve heard enough from you, my prince,” Seto once again cut into the young prince’s rebuilding happiness. “But I do not recommend the given the opportunity you are all willingly to risk, especially you, Kisara. It’s far too dangerous for you to be out there in the middle night when we all know what Bakura is clearly capable of. Kidnapping the pharaoh’s soon-to-be wife is probably only the beginning of a horrible plot to destroy us all in order to gain ultimate power. Why can’t you all see that?” The icy-blue eyed brunette looked at everyone in his chambers as though they were all blind, not realizing the danger ahead of them if they go.

Yugi turned towards the High Priest with anger and upset that matched his ever-growing concern for Teana, encouraging his voice to speak boldly on what he felt was so important to do. “I don’t care about the risks, High Priest Seto. Teana’s life is at stake right now and I’d go through hell itself to save her. So nothing you say will stop me from going to the outskirts to save her.”

Kisara stood shoulder-to-shoulder with her friend and strongly added, “I agree with Prince Yugi. This monster, Bakura, will be stopped or we will die trying to save our friend. And this is the way it’s going to be Seto…whether you like it or not.”

Yugi walked towards his brother’s most trusted advisor and stopped in front of him with instructions. “Shimon, as much as I would like you to join us in the quest to bring Princess Teana home it is not your place.”

Shimon nodded in agreement. “I understand, my prince. What would you like me to do?”

“I need you to return to the palace and tell the pharaoh not to worry. Kisara and I will bring Teana home safely.”

“But, my lord, what if you don’t return? The power Bakura holds is so powerful. I do not think it would be wise for you to go. Surely you must think of your family—what would the pharaoh say if he knew you were going after such a heartless monster of the darkness?”

Yugi knew what Shimon was saying, and it made perfect sense, but sometimes perfect sense isn’t always the right way to go in life. “I understand where you’re coming from and I’m truly grateful for your concern, Shimon. You’ve always been there for my brother and I, but I must do this for Teana. I won’t let Bakura take her away from us without a fight and I won’t come home without her so please don’t try to change my mind. I know what I’m doing and so does Kisara. We’ll all come back home safely and as soon as possible, I promise.”

“May the Egyptian Gods be with you, my lord. Let us hope that Ra will protect you on your journey. Come home safe and soon so we may rejoice in your return.”

Yugi nodded slightly and wished his old friend farewell as he left the temple for the palace.

The white haired girl began to leave, not looking back with determination filled in her eyes. It was clear to her now that Seto would never accept Teana the way she did, no matter what she wanted or felt was right. It filled sorrow into her heart quickly, though knew that she had to stay focused. 'For Teana's sake...'

The young prince followed her shortly until he suddenly stopped with Kisara on his heels, also making her stop as well. Yugi's eyes narrowed as he looked back on Seto before departing the temple. “Be with us now, Seto, or make no complaints to let us leave in order to save the princess before it’s too late for her. What will your decision be? We don't have much time.”

Seto said nothing, though kept his daring eyes on Kisara, wishing she wouldn't leave him. Not caring what the prince wanted to do with his life, he knew anyway that their mission ahead would be too dangerous, especially for her. The outside world of Egypt saw her as not a person, but a curse—just like Bakura. They were so similar, yet different, that it scared him. It truly scared him. Similarities like that were a dangerous thing and perhaps that's why Kisara had a vision of them, Seto thought to himself worriedly. Bakura and Kisara were outcasts, "a threat to the public" and so unbelievable opposite that his ladylove wouldn't know how to think straight.

No, he couldn't just let her walk out of here and face Bakura to possibly save Yami's future wife. He wouldn't allow it for a second... But then he saw the look in her innocent eyes. Kisara was so determined to save her best friend that there would be no stopping her from leaving unless he tied her down onto their bed while she kicked and screamed wildly. It was useless to do anything to convince her to stay now. So there was only one thing that Seto could do now.

"Then what are we waiting for, hell to freeze over? Let's go before I change my mind."

For the first time since Kisara learned of Teana's kidnapping she smiled and ran over to her lover in temporary bliss. She grabbed his face with her hands and pulled him into a deep, passionate kiss. After parting she breathlessly said, "Thank you, Seto. You don't know what this means to me."

Seto looked over to Shadah and firmly instructed him, "Look after the temple while we are gone. If we're not back within two days have the palace guards do a search party for us all over the outskirts. Is this understood?"

Shadah simply said "yes" and bowed in respect to the High Priest of Ra.

Then the three left Seto's chambers for outskirts without anyone looking back to the temple or the village.
