~*~ His Hidden Side ~*~
The slender brown brows knitted into a worried frown. "This is not good," the brunette declared anxiously as he pulled back his hands from two heated foreheads. "They are having fever as well."
"Serves them right!"
Hakkai stood up and strode over to the blonde monk who was leaning against the doorway, blowing leisurely. "It doesn't make sense, really," he voiced out as he shot a gaze to the twin beds which housed the writhing Goku and Gojyo. "We ate the same things as they did but why aren't the both of us down with food poisoning as well?"
"That's what gluttony will do to you," Sanzo mumbled, giving Hakkai a wry look.
The brunette cocked his head to one side, still not satisfied. A loud groan from Goku caught his attention then and he hurried to the lad's side. "Daijobu ka, Goku?"
"Ite naa…" the golden-eyed boy moaned as he clutched his stomach. Beside him, the half-breed had also succumbed to the same action.
Concern grabbed at the brunette even more. "Hang on, please, you two. I'll go ask the innkeeper if he has any medicine." Turning to Sanzo, he pleaded, "Please watch over them for a while, alright?"
The monk merely rolled his eyes as he stepped inside the room, taking a seat on one of the two stools available. Hakkai issued a grateful smile before walking out of the room hurriedly, unaware of the sardonic look that had graced Sanzo's face as the latter gazed at the sickly duo.
Wiping the sweat off his forehead, Hakkai heaved a sigh of relief as he slowly got up, looking down at both Goku and Gojyo who had finally drifted off to sleep. The two had had a hard time, constantly having to run to the toilet every half an hour or so. Looking out the window, he guessed that it was going to be midnight soon—which meant he had spent almost three hours or so tending to the two. Hakkai then tilted his head in both directions, trying to loosen his taut muscles. His eyelids were feeling terribly heavy and for a moment, he considered sleeping on the floor. But he quickly shook his head and forced his eyes to widen. After all, there was a bed waiting for him in the opposite room. He smiled softly at his sleeping comrades then and bid them a quiet 'good night' before exiting the room.
"Sanzo?"
The blonde monk was sitting in front of their shared room, head hung with a half stick between his lips. There was an ashtray overflowing with cigarette butts before him and Hakkai could only guess that Sanzo had been sitting in front of the room for quite a while. "Sanzo?" he called out again as he approached the blonde.
Sanzo slowly looked up and Hakkai could see the weariness in the narrowed violet eyes. He got down on one knee before the blonde, peering curiously as he rattled off his questions. "What are you doing here? Why aren't you in bed yet? Is the door locked?"
"Chh!" hissed the monk as he picked the ashtray and stood up, crushing the remnant of his cigarette with the tip of his slipper. Hakkai followed suit, eyes still locked on questioningly at the man before him. Sanzo mumbled something incoherent then which prompted the brunette to lean forward.
"What did you say?"
Sanzo pinched the bridge of his nose before speaking stridently. "I said, you're so damn late! I was on the verge of losing my patience and if that had happened, my plan would be ruined! If I had known it will take this long…" He gave what looked like a pout which Hakkai immediately dismissed as a figment of his tired imagination.
"Plan?" he deviated instead.
The blonde scowled. "Yes, plan!" he griped. "Why did you think only those two were down with food poisoning?"
Green eyes widened in shock. "You did something to them?" he asked incredulously.
Sanzo dispensed a disinterested wave of his hand. "It's nothing serious. While the two were fighting over that stupid piece of dumpling and you were getting more sake, I put some drops of very, strong laxative in their drinks. If you're worried that there'll be serious effects, don't. At most, they will only be down for two days."
Hakkai could not believe his ears. "But why?" No matter how annoying the two had been, Sanzo had never resorted to such means before. So why then?
"I needed to get those idiots out of the way and you occupied for a while too," answered Sanzo nonchalantly, as if what he had done was nothing out of the ordinary.
The youkai was getting more confused by the moment. "And why is that?"
Sanzo merely gave him one of those exasperated stares before turning round to push open the door. The room was pitch black and Hakkai was about to reach for the switch when he was stopped by Sanzo. "Wait outside for a while," the blonde said as he entered the room and closed the door. The brunette arched both brows in bewilderment, wondering what was actually going on.
He only had to wait for a few minutes before the door finally inched opened. Hakkai waited for Sanzo to fully swing the door open but when that did not happened, he cautiously pushed at it and immediately caught the scent of candles burning. "Sanzo?" he called out as he stepped into the room.
The room. Where it was pitch black before, it was now distinctly lit; the source of the light coming from the numerous candles placed strategically around. His eyes also caught sight of the square table in the middle of the room where there were several platters of delight, including a small, round cake. There were also a few slim bottles of sake and two cups.
"The food's a bit cold by now," came a sinuous voice from his right. He turned and saw Sanzo stepping out of the shadows. "Blame it on yourself cuz you took such a long time," the blonde continued, carefully avoiding eye-contact.
Hakkai was even more confused than before. "What is going on, Sanzo? I don't understand…"
"Chh, can't you guess?" the monk muttered as he stepped closer to the brunette. The flickering flames from the nearby candles cast a soft glow upon Sanzo's features and Hakkai was sure he did not imagine the look of tenderness that had been allowed to grace the usually stoic face. "Six months…" Sanzo was saying.
Six months? Hakkai wondered for the briefest moment before realization finally hit him. "You remembered?"
Sanzo narrowed his eyes in an attempt to look annoyed, albeit the mirth in them was unmistakable. "Of course I remembered," he stated simply with no hint of sarcasm whatsoever.
Sanzo remembers? And he has prepared all these? The questions surged through his mind rapidly and he was momentarily frozen on the spot. Aye, it had been six months since the two of them had finally decided that they could no longer be content with just silently watching each other from afar which only served to bruise their hearts even more.
"I know that you'd kept track. I am aware of your wishes on those five mornings, and today's too, when you thought I was sleeping. So I decided to do something…special," Sanzo disclosed.
Hakkai did not know what to say. No word could find its way to the tip of his tongue. So he merely stood rooted, gazing at the amethyst orbs which radiated rare warmth. He saw the edges of Sanzo's lips tugged upwards into a miniscule smile and finally one word managed to break free from the stunned spell. "Sanzo…"
"Ba~ka!" the blonde drawled in amusement before walking towards the table. "I'll expect you to come up with something better than what I've done today for the one year mark. For now, let's just eat."
The brunette watched Sanzo took a seat and crossed his arms and Hakkai knew the blonde was waiting for him. He let out a throaty chuckle then as he moved forward, feeling both blessed and blissful that no one in the world was as lucky enough as him to have witness this hidden side of Sanzo.

Ah, this isn't sugary sweet cuz I'd have gagged. Anyways, forgive me if it's lame. But at least, I did get Aizo away from angst. ^-^
