It's Always Been You
Chapter 2
'So it's not because you're in love with him?'
Harry's voice echoed in her mind. She hadn't answered his question but she knew the answer, very well.
Ginny still had the previous night in her mind when she made her way down the girl's staircase. She knew what she had to do, she'd known it for a long time now. But last night made her realise that she really had to do it soon or she'd end up hurting not only herself but also him.
She took a deep breath. She knew he was waiting for her, like he always did. 'You can't back out now. You have to do it,' she told herself as she reached the bottom step. She had been right, there he was, smiling widely, and not knowing what was going to happen.
'Morning Gin,' he greeted her.
'Good morning, Dean,' said Ginny and took a deep breath.
A smiling Dean was very confused been the youngest Weasley backed away when he tried to kiss her.
'Gin? What's wrong?' he asked. Ginny took a deep breath and looked at her boyfriend
'Dean. We need to talk,' she said.
'Oh,' said Dean.
'Yeah,' said Ginny and sat down on the couch. 'I don't think this is going to work out-'
'OK?' said Dean, dreading what was comin' next.
'I'm not... I don't... we're... you're just...' Ginny didn't really seem to find the words expressing the reason their relationship wouldn't last. But Dean finished her sentence, with the words she had wanted to use.
'I'm just not Harry, am I?' he said. Ginny looked truly sorry when she nodded to response.
'No you're not,' she said. 'I'm sorry Dean.'
'It's all right, really,' said Dean. 'I should have seen it comin'. He was you're first crush after all, stupid of me hopin' you had gotten over 'im.'
He sighed and looked at the portrait hole.
'So this is it,' he said. 'You might want to wait here, Harry's still asleep.' Ginny nodded, even though Dean might say he was OK with their break up she knew that she really had hurt him.
'I'm going down to breakfast. I guess I won't be seeing you there,' he said and disappeared out of the portrait hole. Leaving Ginny on the couch, tears streaming down her face.
'Um... Ginny?' she heard a voice she recognized very well. Ginny turned around to see Harry standing at the bottom of the boys' staircase.
'Oh. Hi Harry,' she said wiping away the tears.
'I wasn't asleep, I'm sorry,' said Harry. 'I was on my way down the stairs when you started talking to Dean. I know I shouldn't have listened, I just- '
But he didn't get a chance to continue his apology. Ginny had pressed her lips on his. She had kissed him. After five years of wanting to do so she had finally done it. She wasn't at all surprised when she found Harry kissing her back. When their lips parted both of them smiled.
'So you heard me talking to Dean?' asked Ginny. Harry nodded.
'Yeah. Strange really,' he said. 'I never knew Dean wasn't me?'
Ginny hit Harry playfully on the arm before pulling him into another kiss.
