The dance club Kagome was in was very crowded. It was mostly dark as well, with some flashing lights around the dance floor. Off in the corners, someone had placed some loveseats where couples often made-out. Tables and chairs were set up closer to the bar, which was where the miko was at the moment.
Her hair was up in a simple high-ponytail, and she had even applied some color to her eyelids and lips. She had on low-ride pleather pants and a tight, green halter top. She was supposed to be meeting her boyfried at the table farthest from the door; but for some reason or another, he hadn't arrived yet. He was about fifteen minutes late, which wasn't unusual.
She sighed, once again wondering why she was even dating the guy. 'Oh yeah... mom introduced us and convinced us to date, thinking that we'd be perfect for each other,' Kagome thought as she surveyed the croud. She still didn't see her date. 'Yes, he's usually polite to me, but I just don't trust him. He seems to like me a lot, but I can't seem to return the feelings. There's something not right about him.'
Slumping in her chair a little, she sipped at her ginger ale. She was getting sick and tired of her boyfriend's tardiness. If he didn't show up in five minutes, she was leaving. 'I should just break up with him. I don't like him, even though Mom does. He rubs me the wrong way sometimes... especially when he's so late.'
"Kagome-chan?" a female voice said, bringing the miko out of her thoughts. "Is that really you?"
The ebony-haired girl looked up from her drink to gaze into the brown eyes of one of her old friends. "Sango-chan! It's so good to see you!" she exclaimed happily. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm meeting my boyfriend here, but he's late again," the demon huntress replied, taking a seat next to her friend. They hadn't seen each other in three years, and the chance meeting had surprised both of them.
"Ditto." Kagome laughed. "So, when did you arrive in town? I know that you live a few hours away."
Sango's smile grew much bigger. "Actually, I just moved here. I was thinking of surprising you tomorrow afternoon, but this is even better. You'll get to meet my guy, and I'll get to meet yours."
"Great. I'm sure that Onigumo would love to meet you," the miko assured her friend.
The youkai exterminator's face became pale. "My boyfriend's name is Onigumo, too."
Kagome blinked, flabbergasted. "Dark hair?"
"Yep. Dark eyes?"
She nodded. "Yeah. Last name's Kugutsu?"
"I hate to admit it, but yes."
"We're being played," the miko stated, sounding shocked.
Both girls sat there for a few moments, silently trying to process what they had just found out. They had the same boyfriend, something that shocked them.
Sango was the first one to speak. "He's dead meat." She paused. "No... wait a minute. I have a better idea." Smirking evilly, she put her elbows on the table, her head resting on the palms of her hands.
"What is it exactly?" Kagome asked, curious. Judging by her friend's look, it would be awful.
"We both confront him and then dump him, making a huge specticle out of it," she responded, eyes twinkling dangerously.
After considering the idea for a minute, the miko nodded her head in agreement. "Sounds good to me. It would serve him right, the traitor." She looked around the dance club, her eyes searching for her soon-to-be ex-boyfriend. Finally, she spotted him just coming through the doors. "I'll be back in a second, Sango-chan. There's something I wanna do really quick."
"Okay..." Sango responded, not sure what to say. "Save a piece for me please."
The evil smirk returned. "Sure thing."
"Thanks." Then, Kagome was gone. She had walked off and completely disappeared from sight.
A few seconds later, Onigumo approached the youkai huntress and sat down at the table across from her.
"Good evening, Sango. I am sorry for being late," he apologized, voice rolling over her like oil.
"That's not all you should be sorry for, Onigumo," Sango stated coldly. "I don't understand why my friends had me hook up with you, but obviously they didn't know you very well." Onigumo frowned slightly. "What are you talking about? You're not making much sense, Sango dear."
"Oh, she's making perfect sense, Onigumo," Kagome said, walking up to the table and standing by her friend right as a new song started to play.
.
~I see how you're tryin' to,
Weasel your way and boy I,
Know how you manuever,
With your, your confusion.~
You tell me that I'm your only,
And how bad that you want me.
Then why are you so shady,
If I'm supposed to be your lady?~
.
'Go, Kagome,' Sango thought. 'You decided to set the mood. Well, good choice of songs.'
"Ummm... do I know you?" he asked nervously, brushing his bangs away from his eyes. "I don't believe we've met."
"Oh, we've met," the miko reassured him, brown eyes flashing in anger. "After all, we've been dating for the past six months!"
.
~Why should I believe,
Anything you say?
And how could you shame me that way?
Tell me where,
Where'd you get the nerve,
To even think that you,
You could play me, boy.~
.
Cringing, Onigumo tried to lie his way out of things. "I'm sorry, but I don't know you. You must have me mistaken for someone else. Perhaps you're thinking of my brother, Naraku?"
Sango shook her head. "I don't think so. You see, this is one of my good friends, Kagome. We have been out of touch for a while, but I do know that she doesn't lie."
"You slipped up somewhere," the miko stated, her angry eyes boring holes into his. "You made a date with both of us on the same night at the same place."
"We know that you're playing us," the demon exterminator added.
.
~You thought we didn't know.
You thought we were in the dark.
But, boy, your cover's blown,
'Cause we both know now.
You thought you had us both,
At your beck and call.
But now who's the joke?
And look who's laughin' now.~
.
"I'm not playing," Onigumo swore, holding his hands up innocently. "Sango, you know me. Am I the kind of guy who would cheat on his girlfriend?"
She raised an eyebrow at him. "Obviously, you are that kind of guy."
He shook his head. "I'm not. Kagome's probably trying to break us up or something."
Sango's anger flared up in full force. "How dare you accuse my best friend of something like that. She would never do such a thing!" she snarled, narrowing her chocolate-colored eyes.
"That's more likely than me cheating on you," he retorted evenly.
Kagome rolled her eyes. She could see him sweating. "I don't lie. I know that you've been dating both Sango and me at the same time." She paused for a brief moment. "There's no point in lying about it."
.
~Now you're trying to use us, a
Against one another, but it won't work
I see right through your game, boy,
And I know exactly what I came for --
You.
You, you try to deny all your actions.
For once in your life be a real man.
At least give me the proper respect of
The truth. I already know you did it.~
.
"Just admit it," Sango urged. "You've been playing us, toying with us. We both know it, so you might as well just say that we're right."
The man shook his head, still denying the accusations. He refused to admit anything.
.
~Why should I believe,
Anything you say?
And how could you shame me that way?~
.
"You can't lie to us, not when we both know the truth," the miko stated angrily. "So stop trying."
Sango stood up, signaling that the conversation was going to end very soon. "You're a lying bastard whether you admit it or not."
.
~Tell me where,
Where'd you get the nerve,
To even think that you,
You could play me, boy.
You thought we didn't know.
You thought we were in the dark.
But, boy, your cover's blown,
'Cause we both know now.
You thought you had us both,
At your beck and call.
But now who's the joke?
And look who's laughin' now.~
.
"I haven't been playing you, Sango!" Onigumo insisted. "She's just a lying bitch." He pointed his finger at Kagome, his eyes full of fire. If he could convince the youkai huntress of his innocence, then everything would be okay.
.
~I see right through you, baby.
Tried to tell me you want me.
Can't you just get it through your,
Get it through your thick, thick, thick, thick head?
'Cause I've seen this game before and,
I'm showin' you the door so,
Shut your mouth.
I'm not tryin' to hear your lies. No, not again.~
.
"You dare..." Kagome growled. "I am not a bitch." She hated it when people called her names, especially that one. In her mind, it was the worse thing he could have done, right beneath cheating on her.
"The only thing I see even close to a bitch is you, you son of a bitch," Sango spat, voice dripping with hatred. No one called her best friend names like that, not while she was around.
The miko took a deep, calming breath. "Listen, Onigumo. You've been lying through your teeth, and I'm sick of it. If you don't understand the fact that Sango and I know the truth, perhaps you'll understand this." She drew herself up to her full height, looking down her nose at the man. "We're through with you, so take a hike."
"Sango, surely you believe me, right?" the dark-haired man pleaded.
In response, the youkai huntress placed a hand on the other girl's shoulder. "Good-bye, Onigumo. I never want to see you again, and don't you dare call me." She turned to the miko. "C'mon, Kagome. Let's get out of here."
Kagome nodded in agreement. "Okay. You wanna go see a movie? I think that there's at least one good one playing in the theater."
"Sure."
Then, the two girls began to walk away, talking and laughing as the left a shocked and angry Onigumo behind.
.
~Oh...
Oh no, not again.
Sorry you couldn't be a better man.
Oh...
No, no, no, no, no.
You thought we didn't know.
You thought we were in the dark.
But, boy, your cover's blown,
'Cause we both know now.
You thought you had us both,
At your beck and call.
But now who's the joke?
And look who's laughin' now.
Guess you thought wrong.
Look who's laughing now.~
.
"I'll get you both back, I swear it. No one dumps me and gets away with it," Onigumo hissed under his breath as he left the dance club and headed home. "Kagome, Sango, you'll both pay for humuliating me, that I promise you."
CotA: Once again, I've started another story. The pairing is going to most likely be a Sess/Kag and Sango/Miroku. Unfortunately, updates in this story (if I do continue it) are going to be incredibly few and far between. I know roughly where I want to go with this, thanks to Sess-chan and Zebez. I got a few ideas out of them while they argued. So, if there's anyone who would like me to continue this, push the little purple button and tell me. Thanks.
