DISCLAIMER: I do not own Resident Evil or Buick.

A/N: As soon as you start reading this, you’ll realize it’s a bit more serious than many of my RE stories. This was an idea, I’ve had for a long time now. Alexandra was character that was created for a role-play on one of the RE boards I visit. In creating her, I had to give her a brief back story. Shortly after I decided that her back story might make a good story on its own. I apologize for some of the age changes I’ve made to a few characters. You’ll notice that Wesker and Chris are closer in ages than they were in the game. Also I have taken liberties with some of the dates and times when characters met and so on. So here it is, I hope you enjoy, and please R&R…thankies!! ~W.C.~

July 20, 1998

Alexandra rolled over, and checked her alarm. She yawned, and sat up. The room was small, but apartments were like that, they weren’t famous for having large bedrooms. She swung her legs over the side of the bed, and stood up, pushing a mass of sleep tangled blonde hair out of her face. Alex, as she preferred to be called, was tall with an athletic build. You had to be athletic to do her job, strength was an asset in her line of work. She stumbled into the bathroom, and stared at her reflection in the mirror. Blue eyes set in a rather pretty face, she looked like the girl next door. Of course she was far from being that persona, she’d left “girl next door” status a long time ago. She groaned, and quickly cleaned up. She emerged from the bathroom thirty minutes later, wrapped in a towel. She snatched a pair of stone washed blue jeans out of her drawer, along with several undergarments, and a faded R.P.D. tank top, with the S.T.A.R.S. logo on the back. She’s stolen it from her brother, several months back, not that he’d ever notice it was missing. She pulled her hair back into a ponytail, grabbed her sunglasses and keys, and headed for the front door. The last thing she picked up before leaving, was 9mm berretta in a shoulder holster, loaded with armor piercing rounds. Or if you prefer the street term, “cop killers”, rounds that would even go through a Kevlar vest. Alex slipped into the holster, a look of concentration etched on her face. Couldn’t forget the gun, now could we? After all, it was her job to keep William Birkin alive, and humans weren’t the only thing she had to protect him from. No, Alexandra Wesker thought to herself, humans were her last concern…

Alex steered the Buick into traffic. She still had about two hours before she was supposed to be at work, but they were used to her coming in early. Alex never was one for much sleeping, but with the news of the cannibal murders, and panic spreading like wildfire around Raccoon, she was sleeping even less. She knew what the news reports were saying, hell she knew what the cops were saying. She also knew that they were way off on what was really going on. Only a handful of people knew what was truly happening. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how you wished to view the situation, Alex was one of those handful. Though even she wasn’t entirely sure what she was being told, was the truth. But you didn’t ask questions, you didn’t rock the boat. If you did, you could find yourself becoming a science project with the snap of your employer’s fingers. Alex sighed, as her cell phone rang. She fumbled it out of the glove compartment, and flipped it on.

“Hello?”

“Alexandra, I need a favor.” Alex immediately recognized the sound of Birkin’s voice on the other end of the line. He sounded tired, which was perfectly normal for him. The man slept less than she did.

“What can I do for ya boss”

“I wish you would stop calling me that.”, he said, sounding rather perturbed.

“I apologize Dr. Birkin. What do you need?” Alex pulled the car into a parking space, figuring she’d probably be sent somewhere which might not be on the way to the labs.

“I need you to go see Albert. He has several files for me. If you could bring those with you, I would appreciate it.”

“I can do that Doctor, it’s not a problem at all.”

“Good.”

Alex listened to the dial tone for a moment, before flicking the phone off, and tossing it on the passenger seat. She pulled the Buick back into traffic, and headed toward the police station. Birkin really needed to learn a few people skills, or at lest a few manners. Though she doubted that would ever happen, Birkin was too wrapped up in his precious G-Virus to worry about good manners. Hell, half the time, he didn’t even realize she was in the same room with him until he needed her to do something. Like running errands, or being a middle man for him and her brother. Which in a way, made sense, if you thought about it long enough. It wouldn’t be suspicious for her to go to the R.P.D. and see the Captain of the S.T.A.R.S. team almost every other day. It would raise a few eyebrows if Birkin tried it. She pulled up in front of the R.P.D. and parked. She stepped out of the car, and was immediately assaulted by Forest Speyer.

“Hey there good lookin.” His southern drawl was almost charming. “Here to see big brother?”

“As always. How are you doing?” , she asked, slipping the Buick’s keys into her pocket. “Save Raccoon City from anyone lately?”

“Pretty good, and no. How bout you, still protecting that warehouse from thieves?” Alex’s cover was as a security guard. So seeing her wearing a gun around didn’t cause a commotion.

“Yup. Though someday I hope to work my way up to office buildings.” Forest chuckled to himself, which in turn coaxed a smile out of Alex.

“Naw, don’t want that, they’d probably want you to wear a uniform of something.”

“More than likely. So, you seen my brother?” As much as she’d like to sit here and chat, she did have work to do.

“Office.”, he said, pointing toward the station’s second floor. Alex nodded, and walked toward the front doors, leaving Forest to try his charms on a nearby patrol officer, of the female persuasion, who’d just walked up. Alex shook her head, and stepped into the station’s lobby. She was amazed at the size of the place, every time she walked in. Before becoming the R.P.D. the building had been City Hall, a museum, and a library, not necessarily in that order. She walked across the marble floor, and through the eastern door. She passed several officers on her way to the stairwell, most of them nodded toward her, a few said hello, and none questioned the gun. Maybe it was the security badge clipped to her jeans, or the R.P.D. shirt she was wearing. She smiled a bit, thinking that it was probably because everyone knew who her brother was, and no one wanted to tangle with him. Albert could be a cold man, when he wanted to be, and that happened most of the time. She climbed the stairs, already starting to perspire from the heat. It was late July and the station had no air conditioning, not a good combination. She walked past a eerie looking set of statues, and through the door, to a rather drab hallway. She could hear voices echoing from the office just a few steps away. Seconds later Brad Vickers, and Richard Aiken stepped out. Brad spotted her first.

“Hey there Alex.”

“Hey Brad. How are you on this fine day?” She smiled. He smiled back, run his fingers through his hair nervously. She seemed to have that affect on him every time they met. Kenneth just chuckled to himself.

“Pretty good, hot though.”

“Yea I noticed. My glasses are fogging up something fierce.” Alex pushed the sunglasses to the top of her head. Kenneth shook his head, smiling.

“What is this need you and the Captain have about wearing sunglasses inside a building? Are the florescent lights so hard to handle?” Alex chuckled a bit.

“I can’t speak for Albert, but I figure if I wear them all the time, you’ll know we’re related.”

“Yea, as if the blonde hair, and striking family resemblance didn’t already point that fact out.” Alex shrugged, she’d picked the habit up from Albert. Why he did it, she didn’t know and he didn’t say.

“I never noticed, but you do look a lot like him.” Brad said. “I can’t believe you’re five years younger than him.” Brad had hit the nail on the head with that one. Alex had just turned 21, Albert was 26. Quite young for a man in control of a S.T.A.R.S. team, among other things. Things Brad didn’t know about, things he wouldn’t wanna know about either.

“Speaking of my brother, is he in there?” Alex nodded toward the S.T.A.R.S. office. Brad shook his head.

“Nope, he’s in a meeting with Irons.”

“He should be back in little while though. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind, if you waited in the office. As for me and my esteemed companion, we have things to do.” Kenneth smiled again and headed past Alex. Brad quickly followed smiling awkwardly toward Alex. Alex smiled back, shaking her head as they disappeared out the door.

Chris stared at the mess covering his desk, and wondered if he should sweep it all into a trash can, or try going through it. He was digging through several papers, trying to find a newspaper article he’d been reading earlier, when Alex walked in. He looked up, noticing that she actually had the sunglasses on top of her head for once, instead of hanging over her eyes. She looked around and finally her gaze settled on him and his desk. She shook her head, and walked over.

“I’m surprised you can find anything “ She pushed some of the mess out of the way, and boosted herself onto the edge of the desk.

“It has an order to it. There’s a system at work.”, he said, gesturing to the mess.

“Sure it does.” She nodded, sarcastically. “It’s called being sloppy.”

He chuckled, opening a drawer, and pushing several papers into it. Alex chuckled again, her hand covering her mouth. He laughed himself, closing the drawer. Alex was a good kid, though he’d be damned if he could figure out how she was so out going, when her brother was…well such a tight ass about everything.

“So Alex, when are you and I going on that date huh?” Chris was four years her senior, but this had been a running joke with them since they’d met five months earlier. Their was no romantic interest between the two of them. She eyed him, then leaned her had down, mouth next to his ear.

“As soon as you clear it through my brother.”

“That won’t be happening anytime soon.” Chris looked up as Captain Wesker walked though the door, eyeing them both. Chris shifted a bit, but Wesker‘s scrutiny didn‘t seem to bother Alex. Wesker leaned against the door frame, his arms crossed, the sunglasses firmly in place. Alex giggled a bit, then gave Chris a quick peck on the cheek before turning her attention to Wesker.

“I was waiting for you.”

“Obviously. “

Alex pushed herself off the desk and walked to Wesker. Chris remained silent. He wasn’t sure what Wesker was thinking, and he figured silence was the best course of action. Alex stood up on tiptoe and gave her brother a quick peck on the cheek. Wesker’s expression never changed, but his body seemed to lose whatever tension it had been holding only seconds ago. Chris had noticed, on more than one occasion, that Alex had that effect on him.

“Is there a reason you came to visit me?” Alex nodded, her smile faltering slightly. Chris took this a cue to exit. He stood up, grabbing the newspaper he’d been looking for earlier, and headed out the door.

Alex watched Chris for a second. She’s liked Chris Redfield, as soon as she’d met him. Good, honest man, who wasn’t bad looking to boot. But there was never going to be romance between them. He treated her, no different than he did his own little sister, and she treated him much the same why she did her own brother. She turned back to her brother. Albert was a tall well built man, with the same blonde hair and piercing blue eyes she had, they were often mistaken as twins. Albert sighed, walked over to his desk, and sat down. Alex smiled, and boosted herself onto the edge of his desk.

“I know you didn’t come here to flirt with Redfield.” Grimaces slightly, then tilts his head down slightly to look at her over his sunglasses. “Did you?”

Alex rolled her eyes, glancing at a picture perched on the corner of the desk. Albert was leaning against the gate in front of the R.P.D. arms crossed, sunglasses pushed up for once. Alex was standing next to him, white tee shirt and blue shorts, looking serious. Chris had snapped the picture for her, about three days after he’s arrived. Albert reached out, and carefully tipped the picture face down.

“Alexandra, I trust this is not a social call.” Alex could hear the anger creeping into his voice. She sighed again, and shook her head.

“No, Birkin asked me to drop by and pick up some files.”

Albert nodded, and opened one of the desk drawers, pulling out several files. He handed them to her, without a word. She nodded, and slid off his desk, as Albert turned his attention to several papers on his desk.

“I’ll see he gets them.” She started out the door, then turned, looking almost worried. She had just suddenly gotten a really bad feeling “Albert…”

Albert looked up, looking slightly annoyed. “Yes?”

“Nothing, never mind.” Albert shook his head, and went back to the papers. Alex walked out the door, and down the hallway. The further she got away from the office, the more worried she got. She climbed into the Buick, shaking her head.

“You worry too much Alex.” She pulled into traffic, pushing her worries to the back of her mind.
