Valkyrie

Let it be known that Ascended beings such as myself are not emotionless. On the contrary, we can be quite passionate - when we have something to be passionate about.

Which, until recently, wasn't often.

Truth be told, we were bored. Although our ranks swelled every day as we brought departing souls to enlightenment, the monotony was getting to all of us, even me.

Until Kheb. When I traveled to Kheb to guard the Harcesis child, my existence was turned upside down. For was there that I met Daniel Jackson.

It was there that I, Oma Desala, fell in love.

The first thing I noticed about him was how small a leap it would be for him to reach enlightenment. Daniel was wise, gentle, loving, compassionate, and I found myself irresistibly attracted to him. But I knew that he still mourned his dead wife, so I did not pursue him.

When Daniel eventually Ascended and followed me through the metaphorical Stargate, Sha'uri awaited him on the other side. I left quickly; I couldn't bear to watch the joyous reunion. I wanted to leave them alone for the rest of eternity, for their sake. I never wanted to think about Daniel again, for mine.

But that was not to be. Daniel brought to the community of Ascended beings a new perspective on the Universe, a sense of wonder at its complexity and awe at its simple beauty. He changed us forever. For the longest time, Ascension was, to us, simply an alternative to oblivion. Now, thanks to Daniel Jackson, we no longer merely exist, but live.

As for Daniel himself, he never seemed to notice the impact of the transformation he had wrought. He had never thought he could ever make a difference, even as he changed whole worlds for the better. When he returned to mortal life, I cried not for myself, but for him. He would never remember his Ascension, and therefore would never know what he had done for us...
