Disclaimer: I didn't write The Giver; that would be Lois Lowry. I just wrote this poem.

A/N: This was actually an assignment I did in English a while ago after reading The Giver, but I love the way that it turned out, and I just stumbled across it again and thought I'd post it here.

I am Jonas

I am a confused boy with a large responsibility.

I hear no music, and as long as Sameness stays, I never will.

I see a spot of color in a world of dullness.

I say that memories should be shared by all.

I cry for all of the innocent people who are released.

I am a confused boy with a large responsibility.

I am a boy who hopes for something better.

I want to forget about the pain that the memories give me.

I need people to share memories with me.

I hope that Sameness does not go on forever.

I am a boy who hopes for something better.

I am a person different from everyone else.

I feel sorry for all the people who can't feel true emotion.

I try to show others, but they just can't see.

I wonder if the people of this world will ever have memories of their own.

I dream of a place where the Sameness is no more.

I am a person different from everyone else.
