"Miss, you can't go in there!"
Candace Briscoe stormed into the conference room like a five foot four inch redheaded tornado. Her stiletto heels beat out a rhythm as she strode toward Lennie Briscoe with a purpose. She pulled back her right hand, reached up and slapped him across his face with a resounding smack, as she screamed at him.
"You lying son of a bitch! You said you had retired! Well, what the hell is this?"
Before he could collect his wits enough to answer her, she slammed a key down on the tabletop in front of him.
"Here's your God damn key, now give me mine!" she demanded.
"Candy," Lennie pleaded.
"Now, Lennie!" she insisted.
"Please Candy, can't we talk about this later, in a more appropriate setting?" Lennie implored.
She fumed for a moment, and then finally relented.
"All right, tonight 6 o'clock, my place. Don't be late. This is your last second chance," she said as she spun on her heel and walked out.
Lennie blew out a breath as he watched her leave, then he became aware of his friends and colleagues watching him and he wondered if the redness on his face from where Candy had slapped him was matched by the redness creeping up from his embarrassment.
"Who was that, Lennie?" McCoy asked with a laugh.
"My 2nd ex-wife," Lennie answered.
"Sounds like maybe you were planning on remarrying her," Jack said in a tone that was almost a question.
"I don't know that I'd go that far, can we drop this and get back to the case?" Lennie asked, making it clear he'd prefer not to discuss things further, his previous good mood having left with Candy.
