Note: kind of a prequel to my story 'Like Chess, only not…'
The Principles office filled with light as Willow held the Slayer-axe in her hands, using its power to activate the Potentials.
"Oh. My. Goddess!" She exclaimed as she felt the power run through every part of her.
"You are a Goddess!" Kennedy looked on in awe as her girlfriend lit up with a supernatural light.
"Get this to Buffy." Willow sounded slightly distant, holding up the axe to the newly activated Slayer. Kennedy grabbed it and ran from the room, not looking back.
A sphere of green light appeared before Willow, growing in size until it almost reached the ceiling. Then is slowly dissipated, leaving a tall, dark haired woman in white robe, her eyes as green as emeralds. They weren't emerald in the normal sense of the word: her eyes where completely emerald-green, to the point where they almost glowed.
"Well, well, well." She smiled, "You've come a long way my little Willow."
"I know you." Willow looked up, still dazed by the power that ran through her, "Who are you?"
"I am The Lady." The woman smiled, the sort of smile a Tiger has just before it attacks, "I am the one who chose to you to be a holder of great power."
"You are very strong Willow Rosenberg: stronger than most humans. This world needs people like you."
"Are you the one who gave me the power to do this?"
"Yes. I can not interfere directly, but I can even up the odds: your friends have it in them to defeat The First, they just have to find it." The Lady looked round, "I must go now."
"What if I need you again?"
"I do not come when called; only when needed the most by those in the greatest need."
"Will I ever see you again?"
"Yes, although you may not know it at the time. I have taken an interest in you Miss Rosenberg: you may come to regret this in time, but know that I never sacrifice my pawns."
"I don't understand."
"You will, one day." The Lady smiled, a friendlier smile than before, "You had bet go: things are reaching their climax."
Willow jumped to her feet and ran to the door. She stopped half way through and turned, "Thank you."
"You're welcome." The lady smiled, slowly fading from sight.
