Catherine sits in a room alone silently crying. She doesn’t notice Gil walk in with a cup of coffee and a plate of biscuets.

“Catherine how are you?” Gil places the plate on the bed, and sits on the edge.

“Oh, I’m just great. Yer happy as harry, after burring my daughter.” Catherine glars at him with her icey blue eyes.

“I’m sorry.” Gil puts his hand on her shoulder and pulls her into a hug, “Just let go.”

“Let go. How can I just let go Grissom. Don’t you get it I lost my daughter? I burried her today.” Catherine pulls out of the hug. “Don’t you feel anything for her?”

“Of cause I do. I feel like I have lost my daughter. Not physically but emotionally.”

“You were like a farther to her much more than Eddie ever was. But Grissom, how can I let go after 11 years of her being her and now she’s not, how can I live my life?”

“I know it will be hard. But you still have people around you who love you and you need to be around them.”

“Like who?”

“Well... um ... Sarah, nick, Warwick, Greg, brass...”

“What about you Gil. Do you love me?”

“Yes of cause I do.”

“Like the others love me... Or more?” Catherine questoned with a child like tone in her voice.

“I don’t think we should be talking about this now.” Gil backs away from Catherine who has come closer.

“Why?”

“Because you are in no fit state to talk, or think about this. Your greaving and you want to find some one to love. And I’m not the one.” Gil says while thinking ‘what the hell am I doing. I want this wonderful woman in front of me but ... I can’t she... She needs to grieve then I’ll, maybe, tell her.’

“Fine be like that then.”

“You should get some sleep. You can stay here if you want.”

“Thanks. That would be nice.”

The next morrning Catherine walks down and meets Gil who is just about to leave for work.

“Wait a miuet and I’ll come with you.”

“Are you sure. You can have as much time off as you like.”

“No. Gil I need to be at work. Like you said I need to be around people who love me and who I love.”

“But are you sure you are ready to face work?”

“I’m sure. I’ll just do paper work. Now tell me your answer.”

“What answer?” Gil looks blankly at her.

“When you were going through the people who love me, then I asked how you loved me, you never answered. So?”

“I told you that you were, and are, in no fit state to know.”

“I have slept and I am ready to let go. So tell me.”

“I’ll think about it and then if I will tell you I will tell you tonight. Okay”

“Fine.”

“You ready to go Cath?” Gil pokes his head in to the break-room.

“Yer I'm nearly done here.” Catherine picks up the paper work and put it in a pile. She walks to the locker room, Gil follows. “So you gonna tell me? It is night.”

“Catherine. You know my answer.”

“I know. But I want to hear it from you. So?”

“I have never stopped loving you from the very first moment I saw you.” Catheirne smile sweetly at Gil’s heart warming words.

Catherine looks at a picture in her locker; it’s a picture of Lindsey. Catherine thinks ‘have I let go too soon. Really I haven’t this is just an act. When can I let go and not be acting.’

“Now shall we take you home?” Gil smiles at her.

“Can I come to yours again? Its just ...”

“You don’t need to explain. I want you to be near me any way, and always.”

“Thanks” They both walk to Gil’s car and go to his home.

Catherine sits staring out the window in Gil’s spare bedroom, tears running down her face.

“Um... Cath... You okay” Gil carefully says while walking in.

“Did I let go too soon, Gil? Because I don’t know” Catherine carries on starring out of the window were she can see little children playing out front.

“There is no set time to ‘let go’ it’s just when you fell ready.” Gil sits on the bed and strokes her face, and her tears away.

“Thanks. You’re the best man I know.” Catherine moves to lie down.

“Do you want me to leave, so you can get some sleep?” Gil stands to go to the door.

“No ... um... can you just hold me?”

“Yer cause I can.” Gil lies on the bed and holds Catherine. He can feel her tears soak through his shirt.

“Gil I don’t know if I'm ready to let go?”

“What ever you decide I will always be there for you” Gil kisses Catherine on the forehead and then Catherine falls asleep in his arms.

Then Catherine whispers before falling asleep “always?”

“Yer. Always be there for you.” Then they both fall sleep in each others arms.
