A girl sits there, holding her Flotter doll, talking happily to another girl, one with facial implants. She feels so happy to finally have a friend her own age, as they complain about their mathematics assignment and giggle over the new holonovel Tom Paris designed for them. She smiles, laughing at a joke her friend has told, and asks about what Mazoti thinks of the dessert Uncle Keelix made for them.

She has no idea of the reality of life, the terror that lies ahead. She has yet to know how much fear the realization of death can bring or the sorrow of seeing her friend die right before her.

She doesn't have the slightest clue that her innocents will be ripped away as she learns all of these things in only a few moments as Voyager finally encounters someone they can't defeat.
