Chapter 1: The Accident

It was a cold October morning when seventeen year old Lily came in to the Great Hall, where four separated tables were full of eating young teenagers. While all seemed very peaceful, Lily suspected that something was about to happen. She sat down near the four infamous Hogwarts' pranksters – Peter Pettigrew, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, and James Potter. Her suspicions were confirmed when the Marauders grinned at each other.

Suddenly almost every student who sat at the Slytherin table wore bright pink robes and had their hair dyed bright red with streaks of gold. Lily looked at her friend Severus, and on his face he wore make up – gold eyeshadow, black mascara and red lipstick, which matched his hair, which was braided in two pigtails. The entire hall was in shocked silence. All of sudden Rock-and-Roll rang through the hall, and Lucius Malfoy with his companions Crabbe and Goyle stood up and went to the stage below the staff table. They danced and with effort performed complicated acrobatic moves.

It all stopped as abruptly as it started and all returned to its previous state and the embarrassed red-faced trio returned to the Slytherin table. The laughter of the Gryffindor, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff tables echoed in the Great Hall, while Dumbledore's eyes twinkled merrily. Flitwick fell of his chair with laughter and the other teachers at the staff table were also in various stages of amusement. Only Professor McGonagall looked at the Marauders disapprovingly and said in her firm voice: ''20 points from Gryffindor and detention. Potter, Black you're with Filch. Pettigrew, Lupin you're with me.''

The addressed four bowed their heads in understanding as they continued with their breakfast. Lily's furious gaze was directed their way, but it did not effect James Potter, his blue eyes stared into hers adoringly. He opened his mouth but Lily said abruptly, ''Don't even think about it. I'll never go out with you.''

''But Lily…'' started James..

''No James. I've had enough. You are too immature.'' Shouted Lily and stormed out from the Hall. James glanced at her as she exited the room.

''James, mate. She'll come around.'' said Sirius.

Meanwhile, Lily angrily walked through the passages and empty corridors to her first class. Once in the room, she took the seat at the end of the room and took out the book she borrowed from the library the previous day. She started to read and soon was entirely captivated with the story, when Professor McGonagall came in, she put the book in her bag.

The remainder of day passed in daze for Lily and soon it was the last class – Potions. It was the only class the Gryffindors shared with the Slytherins and it was held in the cold dungeons. The Potions Professor Woodwright, the Head of Slytherin House gave the directions for the Memory-restore Potion and the class started working in silence. An occasional whisper and bubble of cauldrons was heard, but little else. Lily was about to add the final ingredient (3 bat eyes) when she heard a noise from behind her. She turned around to see Potter and Black throw fireworks in Snape's cauldron. She wanted to scream at Severus but it was too late. His potion splashed all over him as well as some of the Slytherins who were standing near Snape. Immediately they were covered by painful boils. Chaos reigned.

''Silence!'' screamed Professor Woodwright, ''All who were hit by the potion go to the infirmary.'' When the students with boils left the class Professor Woodwright turned to the Gryffindors and in a dangerous voice said, ''Potter, Black that was a reckless thing to do. 20 points from Gryffindor! Each and detention with me this weekend at 8 pm. Class is dismissed.''

The next morning at breakfast, the Marauders were sitting at the Gryffindor table when James noticed something amiss, ''Guys, where is Lily?'' he asked.

''I don't know.'' answered Remus. ''The last time I saw her it was during…'' he stopped and looked at James in sorrow.

''Where was it?'' asked James nervously.

''During Potions.'' finished Remus.

''Oh my god!'' announced Sirius loudly.

''She didn't come to dormitory last night and everyone who came in contact with Snape's potion are already here.'' panicked James.

''We must tell McGonagall.'' said Remus and at these words they left the Great Hall.

They ran to McGonagall's office and started speaking all at once, McGonagall stopped them. ''Mr. Lupin, could you tell me what happened?''

''There was an accident in Potions yesterday and all people who came in contact with the failed potion are in the Great Hall for breakfast. But Lily isn't. In fact she wasn't even seen after Potions and she didn't come to the dormitory last night.''

McGonagall paled. ''Come with me boys.''

She led them to the gargoyle, and gave him the password, the gargoyle jumped aside. The boys looked at each other with rising fear as they followed Professor McGonagall into the headmaster's office.

While, Professor McGonagall went into the Headmaster's private chambers, the boys waited in the office and took a good look at the various things, they were admiring the red and gold phoenix, which stood on his perch when both Professors arrived. Remus retold the events of the previous day to the Headmaster.

Dumbledore's customary twinkle was missing. He looked very solemn and cast an ancient spell, when he saw the results of the spell he grew even more solemn and somewhat sad. ''I'm very disappointed with you, boys.'' said the Headmaster, ''Miss Evans is missing. She's not in Hogwarts anymore, in fact she has totally vanished from the surface of the Earth. ''

''But how is that possible?'' asked a shocked James.

''I don't know my boy,'' answered Headmaster Dumbledore, ''But I must insist that you do not tell anyone what happened yesterday. You may tell any who asks, that Miss Evans mother is ill and she was called to home. No one is permitted to know what happened. Is that clear?''

''Yes sir.'' chorused the boys.

"The Professors and I will look for Miss Evans. You are dismissed.'' Dumbledore said.

The Marauder's left the room.

''Where are you, Lily?'' Dumbledore asked with tears in his eyes.
