Author's Commentary:
Hello! I know it's been forever since I last update this story but at least I came back to finish it right?
For those of you who have already read this story, you might want to re-read it again because I have altered many things as well as putting in many new additions. The most obvious change is that I've added two new chapters, with the result of finally completing this fanfic. Also, please don't forget to comment. I really do love reading all the feedback and I do appreciate every post. Thank you and enjoy the story!
After hearing the calls of Beast Boy to come to breakfast, Robin slowly opened his eyes, flinching as the morning sunlight assailed his vision. He had forgotten to close the drapes and now his entire bedroom was engulfed in the morning light. Not that he didn't like the daylight … it was the night that he lived for. He enjoyed the thrill of fighting crime especially at night, where he felt more like himself than ever. It was his connection to the dark that made him enjoy and fight so greatly. It was also a comfort to him. As leader, it was very difficult to maintain a cool exterior no matter how bad the situation got. No one would ever comfort nor reassure him until all was said and done.
Only after the battle was successful would everyone thank him and recognize his true potential. But what if he made a mistake? Everyone would point and blame him, but that was part of the territory of being leader. Leader of the pack. Leader of a crazy pack.
"Come and get it! Pancakes, eggs, bacon and cheese!" Beast Boy continued to call as he ran through the hallways.
"Ugh..." Robin sighed as he forced himself out of bed, "it's going to be one of those days."
"Come on guys! Food's ready!" Beast Boy welcomed as his group emerged into the kitchen and seated themselves on the table.
Cyborg was the first to come in, followed by Terra, Raven, Starfire and finally Robin.
"Morning everyone!" Beast Boy greeted.
"Hey BB, give me the 411 on which one of these dishes isn't burnt to a crisp" Cyborg said as he approached him.
"Hey! I'll have you know that I'm the only true chef around here and that your insults don't faze me."
"Nothing fazes you," Raven instinctively responded. Within the last year, each member of their group had impulsively grown to pick on each other whether they intended it or not. Raven smirked as she realized what she just said without looking at Beast Boy.
"Oh no you don't Rae! I've made something special for you!" BB cried out as he ran to her and offered her a cup of tea. Raven smiled a small smile, one that went unnoticed by everyone. Everyone except Robin. However, this short affection was cut to a halt as Raven rolled her eyes, drinking her tea and trying not to look at Beast Boy who was practically drooling over Terra with bulging heart-shaped eyes.
Robin and Starfire soon joined Raven at the table as they watched the trio fight over the food. "Hey you guys!" Starfire asked, "Why don't we all go out today! We can go to the mall or maybe to go watch a movie. What do you think?"
"Sure! I'd love to go out Starfire, just as long as Beast Boy comes along." Terra replied.
"Beast Boy at your service! Count me in!" BB responded, still clinging to Terra who only laughed at Beast Boy's display of affection.
"Well, I could be spending my time in the Gym working out, but what the hell. I'm in!" Was Cyborg's answer.
"I'll go with you guys to the Mall, but after that I'm coming home" Was Raven's non-chalent response.
"I guess Someone's got to keep an eye on you guys..." Robin said a little annoyed. Sighing in resignation, he consented " ... I'm in."
And with that said, the entire group ate breakfast, somewhat decently, if you ignore the food fight, the breakout between Cyborg and Beast Boy, Terra and Starfire trying to clean up the mess, and Raven and Robin complaining just how immature they were.
Back at Titan Tower, after an intense day of shopping at the mall and trying to maintain some control over the group, Robin and Starfire were talking on the sofas while Terra and Cyborg were fighting it out on the Play-Station. Soul Caliber-2 was their new favorite game and of course, Beast Boy was sitting at Terra's side routing for her to beat Cyborg's metal butt. Cyborg however, was the pro and he won the game. After more bickering between the trio, Starfire finally convinced the group to put aside their little fight and head off to the movies. That of course was a big "Yes" for everyone ... everyone except Raven.
When the group tried to convince her to join them, Raven was more than willing to remind them of Robin's poor sense of direction and timing because the last time they went to the theaters it was closed. This comment was not without consequence and everyone started to laugh at Robin, who of course was flush red the second Raven mentioned his one time mistake.
Several hours later, Raven strolled the halls of the Titan Tower, tired and finding herself missing the company of her friends. She really could not pinpoint the real reason why she missed them. Everyone one of them had their flaws but she had grown fond of them and their quirks. She had spent a good portion of her time alone in the Tower in her room fixing and re-decorating, something she never thought that she would be doing. It was no longer filled with classical items and mythological items, now; it was decorated with charms, mirrors, and beautiful antiques that Starfire had got her into. Raven smiled to herself as she recalled how happy Starfire was to realize that she actually found something in common with Raven, that they both liked.
As hard as it was to like Starfire at first, Raven did find her to be a very sweet and genuine person. Especially after that little incident when they switched bodies ... man that was hell. But, differences aside, they had a common goal, to save and protect the people they cared for.
Another new addition to her room was that she had a new dresser across from her bed, and it was covered with photographs of her and her friends. It was actually Terra that got them into taking vacations and bringing the camera with them. At first, Raven hated the idea of having to take pictures and made sure that her contempt was crystal clear, but in all honestly those were the things she treasured the most.
Raven closed her eyes, as she recalled the memories she had made with the Teen Titans. Precious memories and important people she could never afford to lose. Everyone, was important to her and she knew very well that she would die to protect them.
"You sure do like to pace these halls," a quiet voice, unexpected in its proximity, jolted her back to the present.
Turning around in a graceful, yet defensive pose, she breathed a sigh of relief as she realized who it was.
"Robin." Raven let out in a one breath.
"Did I startle you?" Robin asked, staring at Raven with his intense eyes. Studying. Watching. Observing her every move.
"N-No." Raven replied, knowing that he could see right through her lie. She remembered all too well just how afraid she was that night when she lost her powers and her magic transformed itself into her fear. She also remembered how it was Robin who caught her when she fell down the elevator, helpless, and it was Robin who figured the source of all the trouble. Since when did he figure me out so well?
"What are you doing here?" Raven finally asked, realizing that he was supposed to be out with the others.
"I realized that what I really wanted..." he paused a little, "was to be here at home."
"Oh." Realizing that he probably wanted some time alone, she turned around and walked off.
Robin watched somewhat disappointed as Raven left. In fact, even though he was having a great time with the others, he felt detached, like some part of him was missing. At first, he couldn't pinpoint exactly what was wrong, but after talking with Starfire the entire time, he felt tired and looked over his shoulder, expecting to see Raven, giving him a reassuring look that would say, 'I understand.'
Raven and Starfire had spent the most time together, so Raven had already gone through all those long conversations and would understand how exhausted he was. Sadly enough, when he looked over his shoulder, Raven wasn't there, and he realized where he should be.
I want to be with Raven.
Finding herself on the roof of Titan Tower, Raven sat on the edge as she watched the sun descend beyond the horizon. She had already meditated all day when she wasn't fixing her stuff or hanging out with the group. This time alone on the roof, was probably the only time alone she would have considering the group would be returning from their trip to the movies anytime now. Feeling the presence of someone behind her, raven looked over her shoulder but found no one. She felt disappointed. She was happy to see Robin but he needed space, well, at least that's what she assumed he wanted.
"He probably needed some space from everyone and does not need me to bother him" she said, out loud. Fixing her gaze back onto the scenery, she heard the familiar voice she had been hoping to hear.
"I needed some space away from the group. You know how crazy they can get, you on the other hand, I always enjoy your company, except when you start commenting on my mistakes... or when you get mad."
Unable to suppress the smile that was plastered on her face, Raven turned around and welcomed her beloved friend. Robin felt his heart skip a beat, at seeing her smile. A smile and attention that was soley for him.
"Mind if I join you, or would you rather be alone to meditate?" Robin asked, noticing that Raven found humor in his comment about her getting mad.
"There is only a certain amount of time before I even get tired of saying 'Azurath Metrion Zentos'."
Robin smiled and sat down next to her. Being leader required a lot of courage and strength to do the right things and at the right time. Robin then stretched his arm around Raven's shoulders, bringing her closer as she rested her head on his shoulder. Raven was startled at first but
Robin was very gentle when he pulled her close. Realizing too late, that she had instinctively rested her head on his shoulder, she did not want to pull back because she liked how it felt being held in his arms.
"Robin?"
"Hmm?"
"What's on your mind?"
"Just wanting to spend time with my friend."
Raven and Robin both looked at each other, smiled and then blushed, and just as quickly as it happened they returned their gaze back to the scenery. Sitting there on the rooftop, enjoying the comfortable silence that had settled between them both Raven and Robin began to feel that their bond, even if it was for a couple of seconds, was growing stronger.
They both needed the comfort once in a while, considering they were both very strong figures and played important roles in their team, not that
the others weren't just as vital. But more pressure was always on them because they had more responsibilities, especially with their capabilities.
"When you want to be alone, just let me know and I'll go."
Raven shook her head, "Don't go," grabbing his hand and intertwining her fingers with his. "Just sit with me a little longer, just until we see the sun set completely."
"I was hoping you'd say that," he replied, as the two of them sat together, watching as the last ray of light faded away and the darkness came into place.
Closing her eyes, Raven struggled to keep herself calm, begging herself not to blush as she looked up into Robin's eyes, "Thank You for always being there."
Robin looked down at her but could not find the right words to say. Raven was blushing very slightly and Robin knew he had some color in his cheeks as well.
"I've got to look after my girls now don't I?" Robin smiled as he gave Raven a small wink of the eye and then titled his head so that he in turn was resting his head on her soft, navy blue hair. Sitting closely, with their hands intertwined, bodies resting against each other, Robin and Raven could not help but feel at peace and in a world of their own.
The whole scene with Robin messing up with the theaters was actually from a Commercial Break on Cartoon Network. It was so cute because it shows Raven scolding Robin for dragging them to the theaters and it ends up that the theaters were closed. If you have not seen that then you've missed out!
I know I've already revised this story before in 2006 ... however, I wanted to add more chapters to keep it updated with the series as well as the Movie that came out for Teen Titans. The only difference here is, Terra has been living longer with the Teen Titans before her betrayal...
Well I got through the first chapter. I hope you guys enjoyed the new version of this story. Although it still focuses on friendship, I played with it a bit to make it also a romance fic. Oh, and I think I forgot to mention this in my Author's Note but here is the legal disclaimer ... I do not own nor claim the animated series nor comic book series of Teen Titans. It belongs to their respectable owners and Cartoon Network. Thank you!
