Hello everyone! This is my latest Artemis Fowl fanfiction. I'm not sure if I should or could continue Unable to Love Again. I, however, will be putting the same characters I used in that one. Only the names and the looks are the same though. The personality might change.
If someone already made a fic. like this, I didn't copy it. I just came up with this after reading Unable to Love Again.
Disclaimer: I do not own Artemis Fowl. If I did, I wouldn't be posting this in , would I?
The Prodigy's Rival
Childhood Memories
"Artemis, meet Cytherea Avalon. She will be your playmate from now on."
Little Artemis Fowl rolled his eyes mentally. He was just six years old but he knows that this girl isn't going to be just his 'playmate'. His parents had decided that this girl was to be the one he is to marry when he is in the right age.
The girl in front of him was the same age as him. She had pretty brown hair that reached to the middle of her back. She had it loose and she was wearing a red headband. She was also wearing a white expensive-looking dress with a red ribbon at the chest. Her eyes were a forest green colour. Artemis also noticed that she looked terribly uncomfortable. Did this girl know what she was getting into?
Angelina Fowl nudged his son forward towards Cytherea. Artemis really rolled his eyes now and gave a stiff bow to the little girl. The girl gave a stiff curtsy in return.
"Cytherea..." her father said warningly. The girl sighed deeply and reluctantly held her hand out to the rumoured child prodigy.
"Artemis..." Angelina said in the same tone as Mr. Avalon. Artemis took the girl's hand - as if he would rather touch it with a twenty-foot pole than his hand - and then kissed it. The moment he let go of her hand, they jumped away from each other with Artemis wiping his mouth with the sleeve of his shirt and the Cytherea rubbing the hand he kissed.
"Now," Angelina said brightly as if that didn't happen. "You two play here while I discuss something with Mr. Avalon." With that, the two adults left.
Artemis and Cytherea eyed each other cautiously as if the other would attack them at any moment.
"Is it true that you are a child genius?" Cytherea asked, trying to start a conversation.
"What about it?" Artemis asked, eyes narrowed.
"I was just asking," Cytherea said with a frown. "Really Artemis-"
"I never gave you permission to call me by my name," Artemis said coldly.
"Mr. Fowl then," Cytherea said, anger beginning to form in her emerald eyes. "I was just trying to start a conversation. But I can see that some people here are too arrogant and conceited to talk with other human beings."
"Arrogant and conceited!" Artemis bellowed. "Don't think I haven't heard about you, you spoiled brat!"
"People who call others names are ones that don't have a better come-back than swearing," Cytherea said with a smirk. "And I thought you were supposed to be a genius."
Artemis pointed a quivering finger at Cytherea. "Don't you dare say that while in my property!"
"Oh? I thought it was your father's," the girl drawled.
The boy wasn't able to reply as Butler suddenly arrived.
"Master Artemis, your mother wants to see you."
"Saved by mommy, aren't we?" Cytherea said with a smirk.
"You'll have your day Ms. Avalon," Artemis spat. "Mark my words! You won't get away with insulting me!"
Artemis opened his eyes. That dream again. He had been having dreams about his childhood with the girl for the past 2 months now.
He stood up with a groan from his bed and stretched before going to his computer. It was still a bit early and there was 30 more minutes left before Butler gets to his room with breakfast. Oh wait. He has to go down now for breakfast to eat with his parents.
The dreams still confuse him. He hasn't seen Cytherea Avalon in almost ten years. She had only come to their mansion for two summers and he never saw her again. Their parents had apparently broken the engagement off. That was good for him since he wouldn't want to have to watch his back out for her. She was a plague!
He could remember her very well however. She was a bit small for her age but she was full of fire. She never took 'no' for an answer and she was always so energetic. She also always used to get him in trouble but he would get her in trouble as well. They were basically rivals not only in play but also in wits.
Cytherea Avalon may be a brat but one thing she was was modest. At first, he never thought that the girl could match up to his own wits. She rarely challenged him in a contest of wits but when she did, he had to think twice, even thrice, before doing or saying anything. He was actually one of the very few people he felt good talking with even though they always argued. Artemis rarely found someone who could interest him long enough to strike a conversation with and Cytherea was one of those rare people. He would never admit that though. It was only her, his parents and... someone... He just couldn't remember who. (A/N: I'm sure you people know! )
The child prodigy went to a website of a certain Max Winam. This professor was brilliant. His theories on the universe and other mysteries of the world were interesting, thought-provoking and intriguing. Artemis had always wanted to meet this professor but somehow, the man was able to hide his address and whereabouts quite ingeniously. When he typed the professor's name on a search engine in the net, the screen went blank and before he knew what was going on, it shut down. Artemis, however, was more intrigued than ever.
Butler knocked on the door once before going in. He went over to Artemis quietly and looked at the computer.
"Max Winam again?"
"Yes," Artemis said absently without looking at Butler as he scrolled down the page. "He is brilliant indeed. I would really want to meet him."
"Breakfast is ready," Butler informed him. "And I have been doing a bit of research for you. Apparently, there is an upcoming physics conference. Different scientists from around the globe are going to be attending that conference. Perhaps your Professor Max Winam will attend that conference. It is said to be the biggest scientific conference this year."
"Great job Butler," Artemis said, eyes twinkling. "I will certainly go to that conference."
"But tell your parents first," Butler stated.
"I will," Artemis said as he stood up and headed for the door. "Well, come on."
