Love and Loyalty

Disclaimer – I do not own Harry Potter in any shape or form and am making no money out of this fic.

Claimer – I do however own this plot that I have come up with.

A/N – This fic was written after I asked someone to set me a challenge with a believable pairing and guidelines. At the moment I'm interested in writing challenges so if you have a convincing pairing and guidelines let me know, and I'll most likely attempt it!

This challenge was set by Feltons-Babe90099 and had the following requirements:

Pairing: Lucius/Narcissa

Setting: During the Fifth Book, including a flashback to their time at Hogwarts.

Guidelines: Involves Narcissa throwing something at Lucius and it either smashing or breaking something else.

Lucius insulting Snape

Bellatrix and Narcissa bonding over something.

The mention of Narcissa and Lucius's hatred for Dumbledore.

Narcissa sending Draco a letter.

Now onto my attempt. Please R and R, let me know what you think, but not in the form of a flame.

Thank you,

Lauren xx

Narcissa Malfoy hugged her emerald green cloak around herself tightly as she walked through the narrow passage ways of Azkaban. Since her husband had been imprisoned in here she had been left home at Malfoy Manor alone.

The wizard in front of her stopped just ahead of her, in front of a cell door. He looked at the beautiful woman and gave her a sickly smile. Her lips twitched and fell into a deeper frown. He fumbled with his wand and started to undo the many locking charms placed upon the door. Once unlocked he stepped aside and opened the door. Narcissa breezed past him gracefully, not giving the man a sideward glance as she did.

Inside the dingy room Lucius sat in the corner, his back straight against the wall. He saw his wife approach him and he gave a true smile. One reserved for her, and her alone.

There were many who would think Lucius Malfoy a wicked man. And he was, to a certain point. But they were mistaken if they believed he would beat his own wife and son. Far from it in fact. Lucius Malfoy loved his wife dearly, and it all started many years back, when they were both in Hogwarts. . .

Lucius Malfoy watched from where he sat in the courtyard, observing a certain young blonde from his own house. Narcissa Black. He narrowed his eyes. How could he be betrothed to that? Sure, she was pureblood, and she was beautiful. But he could not stand the blasted girl. She was the thorn in his side. She always out did him in classes, always topping his grades. It hurt his pride. . .that a woman could beat him. . .and the fact that she always got a rise out of him just annoyed the hell out of him.

Narcissa threw her head back and laughed softly, her hair falling down her back like a waterfall. Her sister Bellatrix leaned closer and whispered something into her ear, causing Narcissa to laugh harder.

"Trix, stop. . .honestly. . ." She said as she regained her composure.

"Lucius is watching you again sister," Bellatrix observed. She watched as Narcissa's eyebrows twitched.

He was in his sixth year, she in her fifth. She could not abide him. She thought him arrogant, stuck up and possessive. She also however, thought him handsome and charming at times. Many of the females at Hogwarts would agree with her there. He had long sliver blonde hair, penetrating grey eyes, high cheekbones and flawless skin. He was also quite tall and had a good build from his time on the Slytherin Quidditch team.

"He may watch, but he cannot touch," She replied simply, flicking her long blonde hair over her shoulder in the graceful manner that only Narcissa Black could. Her sister laughed and the two continued to converse – bonding over the slightest thing each second.

Malfoy caught this action, and swallowed. Yes, he was attracted to the girl, what man wouldn't be. With her slim and feminine figure, long wavy blonde hair, creamy skin, crystal blue eyes and a rosebud mouth. Oh yes, many of the males at Hogwarts thought Narcissa Black to be beautiful, as they did her sisters.

He quickly recovered when he saw a greasy little first year in Slytherin robes approach the two girls. He watched with gritted teeth as the little boy made the girls laugh. He saw Narcissa say something tender to the boy, and a wave of jealously coursed through his veins. What could that little brat know? Lucius Malfoy, was jealous of a sodding first year. . .what was the world coming to?

He stood up and stormed past the girls and the first year.

"Watch it you greasy little git!" He snarled, pushing the first year over. Bellatrix helped the boy up, showing a rare sign of kindness, before returning to her cold exterior. Narcissa, wanting to get a rise out of Lucius followed him, yelling a list of unrepeatable curses to his back. He stopped and walked briskly back to where she was standing.

"What is it you want?" He growled.

"Say sorry to young Severus, Malfoy," She said in mock sweetness.

"I see no reason to, Black," He replied in the same tone

"Oh, but you pushed him over, called him a nasty name. I can't let you get away with that, not to a family friend. Trix and I promised to watch over him, didn't we sister,"

Bellatrix smirked and raised a perfectly plucked dark eyebrow and nodded.

"Indeed we did sister,"

"I will not apologise Black," He spat at her, his ears turning a violent pink.

"Oh, I think you will. . .Lucy," Narcissa smirked. He hated that nickname.

"I'm warning you Black!" He cautioned.

"Oh, Trix, he's warning me!" She laughed "How amusing. What are you going to do? Hex me?" She teased with no mercy. He knew she was his equal with a wand from their many battles.

He let out a frustrated growl and ran his hands through his hair, when an idea popped into his head.

"You know Black, you're rather ravishing when you get all worked up," He smirked.

She gasped slightly, her face showing genuine shock. With her guard down he took the opportunity and leaned in, connecting his lips with hers. Narcissa gasped again and this caused her lips to part. He took advantage and deepened the kiss.

Narcissa marvelled at how soft his lips were and started to slip into the kiss.

If Lucius was true to himself he would have admitted he had always wanted to kiss her like that, and have her melt in his arms after their many arguments. It had always struck him as the right thing to do. And now, he was finally doing it. . .and it just seemed so right. . .so meant to be. . .

When they pulled apart she looked at him with hazy eyes. He smirked and kissed her softly one more time before pulling away completely. He backed away, that damned smirk still on his face and turned completely, walking off towards the common room.

"Do something!" Bellatrix yelled at her sister. Narcissa nodded, still watching the retreating back.

"Cissa!" Bellatrix persisted. "You aren't going to let him get away with that are you?" She screeched.

"Urm. . .right. . ." She snapped and looked around. She looked at her sister's shoe and yanked it off her foot.

"Not my new shoes! Cissa! I can't believe you! They cost a fortune!" Bellatrix wailed.

But Narcissa wasn't listening. She was already throwing the shoe. It hit Lucius in the back and bounced off it, flying off in the direction of a window, a smashing sound was heard moments later, followed by Bellatrix running in the direction that the shoe went. He stopped in his tracks and turned around.

"You're not supposed to kiss me like that!" She called after him softly. . .seeing him in a different light.

"But Narcissa, I just did," He replied just as soft.

And from that moment on, things changed between Narcissa Black and Lucius Malfoy. . .

Her heart warmed at the sight of him. She waited for the door to close and then she made her way to him quickly.

"Cissa," He said softly, his eyes warming. He'd only ever show her his emotions. Her coldness had long since melted away and she gave him a smile, which showed her real beauty. She crouched beside him and put her hands to his face.

"My love," She whispered "Look at you, what have they done to you? That crackpot old fool of a headmaster and that brat Potter. . ."

He chuckled.

"I'll be out of here soon dear, do not worry, I shall, the Dark Lord is returning, he will award me for my loyalty. Not even that fool Dumbledore will be able to protect Potter from Voldemort,"

"He shall get his revenge?" She asked hopefully, her eyes lighting up.

One thing that was true, that everybody knew. The Malfoy's were Voldemort's right hand family. They held power in the court of Dark Wizards. Voldemort admired Lucius and his family. They were purebloods - through and through. He saw Lucius as a strong, loyal man, Narcissa as everything a wife and woman should be, and their son Draco, as a fine young man who make be a great Dark Wizard who would join his mother and father in his ranks.

"Oh yes petal, he will." He smiled and leaned into her hand. "Tell Draco to be ready. . .and to make sure he gets that mudblood," His smile grew.

"I shall. He won't fail us, I know it. He's such a good boy,"

They looked at each other in silence.

"I love you Lucius," She whispered after some time. Compassion filled his eyes and he reached up a dirty hand to her cheek and rubbed it tenderly.

"I love you more Narcissa," She closed her eyes and leaned forward, not caring if he was dirty and smelly and kissed him.

"I have to go, I'll send word to our son, and I'll be ready for you, when you get out of here. . .The Dementors are switching sides according to those in our circle. Be strong for me Lucius,"

"And you for me Narcissa," He replied. She kissed him on the forehead and he inhaled her scent of Jasmine and Roses. She rose from her position and walked to the door, taking one last look at her husband before knocking on the door. It opened and she stepped through it, and started to walk briskly down the way that she had come from.

The Manor was cold and empty; it had been like this for many years. No laughter echoed throughout the rooms, no life seemed to be there.

Narcissa sighed and removed her cloak, throwing it at the pitiful excuse of a house elf. It squeaked and vacated the room quickly. She was missing Lucius, and it didn't seem right to meet with the Dark Lord without him.

She went over to Lucius's desk in his study and pulled out a piece of parchment and picked up his quill and dipped it in the green ink. She placed the nib to the parchment and started to write to their son.

Draco,

Be prepared. You're father is in excellent health and spirit when I visited him today. I expect you home at the next break. We have many things to discuss. Keep an eye on that girl. Do not spoil what we have planned son, we're depending on you, as is the Dark Lord. Hope you're enjoying school dearest. I am missing you terribly.

All my love,

Mother

Short, simple, effective. She sealed the letter with the Malfoy seal and took it over to the window, where their Eagle Owl was waiting. She stroked it's feathers and tied the letter to it's ankle.

"To Draco," She said in her silky soft voice. The owl hooted and flew away, out of the open window, disappearing into the night.

A cold wind blew across the grounds of Malfoy Manor. The rain pelted heavily upon the roof and Narcissa snuggled into the large emerald green bed, pulling the silk and velvet sheet closer around her as she slept.

-8-8-8-8-

Lucius Malfoy was sitting upright in his cell silently. His eyes were closed and his breathing steady. He was nearly asleep. He would dream tonight, about his family.

-8-8-8-8-

Tucked up in bed over in the castle of Hogwarts, Draco Malfoy rolled over in his sleep, the letter from his mother under his pillow. In his mind he was dreaming of Harry Potter's fall. He smiled and grunted in his sleep.

Three people, each tied to each other by love, each tied to a Dark Wizard by loyalty. Love and Loyalty entwining together, both simbolizing what was important to the Malfoy's. . .
