The principal shook his head as he paced back and forth. Usagi and Lindzey were still at the dance, but sitting in an area of the refreshments table where other students weren't at. Lindzey was holding onto her inured nose and eye with a a cool cloth. Usagi just sat there staring vacantly, still in shock, with her hands resting on her lap.
"I have to say, I'm deeply disappointed in BOTH of you...You, Jackson-san, for thinking you can get away with wearing such an inappropriate outfit, and you, Tsukino-san, for injuring Jackson-san! What in the world has gotten into both of you?"
Ashamed, Usagi slowly raised her head up, looking at her principal. "Um...", she quietly began.
The principal looked at her.
"Yes, Tsukino-san? What is it?"
The blonde's gaze fell back to the floor.
"I don't know if it means anything, but...I didn't mean to hurt Lindzey-san..."
Eyes clenched, tears threatened to spill out.
"I really didn't...", the blonde pretty soldier added, her voice choked up.
Lindzey's eyes widened at the sight of seeing Usagi really crying.
"Now my romantic evening with Mamo-chan is ruined!", she wailed.
The brunette thought her heart would break at hearing the blonde's pitiful whimpers.
Green eyes wavering, Lindzey began: "Tsukino-san..."
Just then, the prom doors burst open as a furious woman, looking almost like a carbon copy of Lindzey, entered the gym.
"Where the HELL is the little brat who hurt my darling daughter?"
It took 5 male staff members to hold the woman back from making a mess of the place!
Usagi blinked, surprised at the woman's theatrics.
(Must be Lindzey's mother), she dumbly thought. Usagi gulped, not liking the woman's reaction one bit.
(Yikes. She looks pissed)
Lindzey's mother was furious as she looked from Usagi, to Lindzey, and back to Usagi again.
"You!", her mother growled, pointing an accusing finger at the blonde.
Usagi's heart pounded in her chest from fear.
Sweat began dripping from the back of her neck as her eyes widened.
Yes, she got in trouble at school quite a bit, especially in junior high, but it was usually for not doing her homework!
Never had it been for picking a fight with someone, or causing trouble!
What was she to expect?
"You did this to my daughter, didn't you, you little witch? How dare you!"
Voice trembling, Usagi began: "I..."
A hand gently rested on her shoulder for a second, signaling for the frightened girl to stop. The blonde slowly raised her eyes upward to see just who tried to comfort her.
The principal began to speak in Usagi's defense.
" , I understand how upset you are, but this is the first time ever Tsukino Usagi-san is in trouble for such violent behavior. Because of that, I ask that you refrain from acting so rude towards her and remain calm."
Mrs. Jackson's face turned white with rage.
"Remain calm...REMAIN CALM? You ask ME to REMAIN CALM when that little monster DESTROYED my daughter's face forever! What the HELL is wrong with you to even THINK that I..." The two girls sweat-dropped in reply as they noticed their Principal's sudden nervousness.
"Oh come on...And you call that standing your ground?", they both mumbled quietly to themselves.
"Be a man and stand up for yourself!"
Realizing that they both muttered the same thing, Usagi and Lindzey blinked out of surprise.
Usagi jumped slightly as she felt a sudden tap on her other shoulder.
It was Lindzey.
"Tsukino-san, I want to talk to you.", the brunette said quietly.
Motioning her head towards a vacant hall way by the bathrooms, the blonde nodded in reply.
The two girls left the scene of Lindzey's mother screaming at the principal to the on-lookers who were interested enough to watch.
Usagi gulped from nervousness.
"Wha...what do you want?"
Lindzey sighed, thinking of how to choose her words. "I...just want to talk to you about what happened back there..."
Usagi gulped again. "You...you aren't gonna deck me because I hit you, are you?"
The blonde nervously ran her fingers through her hair.
(I must be hanging around Mamo-chan too much.), she dryly thought.
Going through her reasoning, Usagi added: "Well, I guess I should just take it like a man...er, woman, sorry...as it's only fair..."
Much to her surprise, Lindzey actually laughed. Usagi blinked, shocked. "Eh? Li...Lindzey-san?"
Wiping a tear from her eye, Lindzey smiled as she clutched her stomach. "I...I'm sorry, it's just...hehe...you...haha...really...hahaha...know how to make people...laugh..."
Usagi blinked again, rubbing her eyes just to make sure.
Was this a dream?
Was Lindzey actually laughing, really laughing, at something she said, let alone being nice to her!
Usagi just couldn't believe it.
"N...no! 'm not gonna de-hehe-ck you!"
Finally calming down, Lindzey replied.
"Usagi...yes, I know we haven't always gotten along, but I want you to know that I don't hate you...Somebody wonderful made me realize that you ARE a nice person, and that I, quite frankly, have been treating you pretty shitty."
Usagi blinked, wondering. "Who...made you realize that?", she asked quietly.
Lindzey looked back at her, eyes bright, a kind smile on her face.
"A wonderful girl named Sailor Moon. She's some kind of heroine of love and justice, I think."
Usagi's heart warmed at the mention of her alter ego's name.
(I was able to change her mind, after all)
"Anyway, Usagi...I just hope you can forgive me. And..."
Lindzey closed her eyes for a moment, voice choked up.
"I...I know that trying to seduce Mamoru-san was wrong...He's your boyfriend, and what I did was unacceptable. People should really be able choose who they love themselves. You can't just force love..."
The blonde suddenly realized her ex-rival had started crying.
"Li...Lindzey-chan, please...don't cry...It's okay, really...I forgive you..."
Lindzey laughed slightly, reminded of something.
"You have pretty good aim when hitting people. You ought to think of taking up karate or something."
Usagi smiled at that, only wincing at the mention of the word "hit."
She scratched the back of her head, giggling. "Yeah...I guess so..."
With a wink, Lindzey added: "Now, let's go back to the principal before mama chews him up and spits him out."
Usagi could only smile in reply.
Lindzey's mother was still rambling on and on about how "evil" a teenager Usagi must be for hurting her precious daughter.
Usagi could only roll her eyes in reply.
(Yeah, after all, with how I look AND act, I just scream rebellious youth. Come one! Anyone can tell just by looking at me that I'm a goody-two shoes and damn proud of it)
"After all, I'm a tax paying citizen! TAX PAYING! don't do it for my health, you know! I do it to make sure my daughter is taken care of and bodily harm is not caused to her by such a hooligan!"
(Oh PLEASE!), Usagi thought.
She was very close to laughing at the woman's amusing attitude.
Looking out of the corner of her eye, the blonde could see that Lindzey was about to laugh, too.
(We're really more alike then we thought, Lindzey-chan)
"Ma...mama. Please! Listen to me, it wasn't Usagi's fault...It was because of my actions that things escalated to this..." Lindzey's mother stopped what she was saying.
"Not now, dear. Mama's busy talking."
...And continued right on raving.
Lindzey sweat-dropped in reply.
"By the way, Lindzey-chan, how did your mom know what happened?"
Cheeks burning, the brunette replied: "Mama is way too over-protective of me...She was waiting outside of the gym this whole time..." Usagi's eyes went wide from shock.
"NANI? Doesn't she realize you need to have a life of your own? I mean, you're 16 years old!"
The American girl scratched her cheek.
"Oh, believe you me, I tried telling her time and time again, but...She doesn't get it..."
(Maybe I should try changing her mom's mind)
Lindzey shook her head.
"I can tell what your thinking, Tsukino-san. Having other people talk to mama doesn't work, either..."
"S...Sou?"
Lindzey nodded in reply.
Usagi sweatdropped, putting her chin in her hand.
"Oh, boy..."
Usagi yawned loudly. "I'm getting sick of this...", she muttered.
(After all, I could be dancing with Mamo-chan right now!) Raising her hand, the blonde burst out: "Ano..."
Green eyes hatefully peered at her.
"What do YOU want!"
The principal, on the other hand, was silently thankful that Usagi stopped Mrs. Jackson from talking him to death.
"Jackson-san...I'm very sorry about what I did to your daughter...I know it's my fault. So..."
The blonde's voice broke as she continued.
"If you want, I'll just go home...and wait until Monday to see what my punishment is..."
"That won't be necessary, because it's my fault.", a familiar male voice replied.
Usagi turned to see who said that.
Mamoru.
(Ma...Mamo-chan)
"Principal Tawahaka...I want you to know that in reality, this is all my fault. Neither of these girls are to blame. If I would have diffused the situation in the first place, then none of this would have happened..."
Usagi's eyes went wide.
(He's taking the blame on himself? When he didn't even do anything...? Mamo-chan)
The blonde felt herself about to cry, not believing herself of how much love she had for that man right then and there.
"Mamo-chan...you had nothing to do with it! It wasn't your fault at all, so there's no need for you to get involved..."
Mamoru looked right at her.
"Yes it is. I need to take responsibility for my actions. As your teacher, I didn't do what needed to be done."
Looking at the floor, he quietly added: "And I'm sorry...Usa-ko."
"Mamo-chan..."
(I...I love you so much right now)
(Usa-ko...I love you, too...and I'm sorry)
"Mamoru-sensei...it wasn't your fault at all! How could it be? I'M the one who was nasty to Tsukino-san from the start, I'M the one who tried to steal you aw...er...Make her life a living hell, I'M the one who should be reprimanded."
Principal Tawahaka was confused, to say the least. (I don't know who I should reprimand now!) "Lindzey-san..Are you saying this whole thing really was YOUR fault, no one else's?"
She nodded.
"Yes. That's exactly what I'm saying. You shouldn't punish Tsukino Usagi-san because I caused her to react the way she did to me."
Tawahaka sighed. He was generally a kind man, but knew even so that rules were rules.
"Even still, I am going to have to do something about Tsukino-san, as she did break school policy. You too, Jackson-san."
Usagi paled, fearing the worst as she began to tremble. Mamoru held onto her shoulder as support, giving her a reassuring squeeze.
He whispered lovingly, "It's okay, Usa-ko. I'm here with you, don't worry..."
With another sigh, the Juuban High principal began. "Lindzey-san, you are to go home, take care of your injury, and change into something more decent for school grounds. You will be allowed back into the gym for the remainder of the dance if you really wish."
Looking at Usagi, he said: "Usagi-san, are to report to the dean's office Monday morning. There, you will be assigned the room to go to for your two-month, after school detention. Lindzey-san, you are to do the same." Usagi and Lindzey cried aloud: "TWO MONTHS?"
Tawahaka shook his head and narrowed his eyes.
"Do you want me to make it three?"
"No, sir...", Lindzey muttered.
Meanwhile, Usagi darkly thought: (Fine! If a youma pops up out of nowhere and bites your head off, it's not my fault. I'll be too busy in detention to save you)
As Lindzey's mother was being kicked out of the dance, Lindzey sighed.
"Well, I guess I'll be going now, Usagi."
She nodded.
"Okay. Are...you gonna come back to the dance?"
The girl grinned.
"Why not? I didn't pay $20 to have it go to waste."
She waved goodbye and left.
"Later!"
Smiling for a moment, Usagi was lost in her thoughts as the other girls joined her.
"Usagi-chan!", Ami called. The blonde turned to see them.
"Oh, hey guys!"
Makoto blinked.
"What happened?"
Minako nodded in agreement.
"Yeah! If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were having a civil conversation with Lindzey!"
Usagi smiled happily.
"Because I was, Minako-chan!"
The girls' felt their eyes bug out as they surrounded Usagi and plummeted her with questions.
"U...uso! How in the world in THAT happen?"
"Because, Mako-chan, after we got to talking, we decided to become friends."
Ami nervously bit her lip.
"And you aren't worried she'll just try to steal Mamoru-san again?"
The blonde teen waved a hand.
"It's fine. She said that Mamo-chan is mine, after all and that no amount of changing his mind would ever work on him."
Makoto scratched her head, still feeling somewhat uneasy for her Princess.
"Well, if you say so, then I guess things'll be okay."
"Yeah! Now where's Mamo-chan at? He owes me a dance!"
Usagi sighed happily as Mamoru held her.
A romantic, slow variation of Moonlight Densetsu was playing in the background.
"I'm so glad to be with you, Mamo-chan...", the blonde whispered.
He nodded in reply, holding his love closer to him.
"I know, Usa-ko...It's so wonderful to be able to hold you in my arms like this..."
The couple kissed tenderly, looking into each other's eyes as they broke away softly.
Lindzey smiled gently as she came up to them.
"You guys are so cute together, you know?"
Usagi blushed, feeling thoroughly embarrassed.
"Lindzey-san...thank you."
The brunette only shook her head in reply.
"I should be the one thanking you, Usagi-chan. You're the one who tried to show me nothing but kindness..."
The couple only smiled in response.
They were equally happy that things were between Lindzey and Usagi were patched up.
She had become such an important friend to Usagi, too.
Almost as close as the senshi were.
Snuggling deeper into Mamoru's arms, Usagi's mind began to wander... (I'm so lucky to have such wonderful friends and family)
After all, what good is a wedding if your friends and family aren't there to celebrate the happy occasion with you?
