Chapter 12: Time Will Set You Free
Sinking into his chair in the parlor Severus let out a very long sigh. The Malfoy boy’s funeral had been that day, and Potter’s had been the day before. He was tired of the charade, the lie, but the memory of the two boys huddled together by the fire preparing to take the potion kept him going.
Their bodies were now in a warm room upstairs, lying together on a bed safe from prying eyes. The potion would be waring off soon, and he wasn’t sure whether or not he should be there when they’d come to.
Harry’s funeral had been the more trying of the two. Practically every Gryffindor came to say good bye, and he was shocked at the true heartbreak he saw on their faces. Especially Harry’s guardians, Lupin and Black. He had never been fond of Sirius Black, but Remus was a different story. When they were younger he had stolen Severus’s attention and held it until it was clear he could never have him, and it had shattered him.
But they had come to the funeral of their only child, stoic and brave, and stood in front of the empty coffin saying their good byes so sincerely that it had made Severus wish he could call out the truth right then. But then he saw Harry’s friends come up, and whisper to the coffin. Whisper about how they wished they had been there, that they could have stopped him from doing what he had. Though no one said it, they all clearly blamed it on Draco.
There was no mention at all of the murder that had been the buzz only days before. Every sin had been forgiven in return for tinted glass memories and black roses.
Draco’s funeral was quite different. No one beat around the bush about his or her anger towards Harry. It was said straight from the start that Draco had been blinded by lies and deceived by Harry. The situation was almost humorous in a completely inappropriate way, two Slytherins had died due to hate and all they could due was push more blame and anger around.
Glancing at the clock above the fire, Severus slipped up the stairs to the room in which the two boys lay, and he sat in the corner under the pretense that there might be complications.
Draco was the first to stir, his eyes slowly sliding open and blinking at the sudden light. After a few minutes of getting accustomed to being, he sat up. His hand bumped Harry’s, and he jumped a little before seeing what he’d hit. Panic spilled across his face as he shook the other boy’s shoulder. When there was no reaction he looked around helplessly.
“Wake up Harry.” He whispered, his voice coming out hoarse from lack of use.
Harry’s body lay still, and Draco again looked around until he noticed Severus for the first time.
“Why isn’t he waking up?” Severus watched as Harry’s toes curled and relaxed slowly.
“It must be taking longer to wear off in his system.” He nodded his head towards the now blinking black head.
Draco turned slowly, still getting used to moving, and squeaked when he saw emerald eyes peering drowsily at him.
“Hullo.” He blurred, trying to sit up.
Draco pushed him back down, straddling him and attacking Harry’s lips and face. He pulled back as Harry’s skin was still very cold, but then decided he’d have to warm him up. Severus slipped out of the room quietly, not wanting to disturb the two boys as they welcomed each other back to the living.
Harry squirmed beneath Draco, pretending to want to get away. A smirk teased at his mouth watching the boy struggle beneath him, and he pinned Harry’s arms above his head. Then he began rocking his hips painfully slow against Harry’s, causing the other boy to gasp in shock.
Draco locked eyes with Harry as he slipped one hand beneath his shirt, running his finger tips along the soft flesh of his stomach. Harry’s eyes widened, but he held eye contact with Draco as he sped up the rocking of his hips. Suddenly Harry rolled them over so that Draco was beneath him, and he grinned maliciously at the blonde, who was too shocked to do much else then stare back. Latching his lips to Draco’s neck, he slid his shirt off, and then began work on the buttons of Draco’s as well.
Several hours later Draco and Harry came down the stairs, both looking sated and very much alive.
“I – we really owe you our lives.” Harry said when he came in front of the older man who looked up from a book he had been pretending to read.
(Oh, I had to do it. I would never let someone else suffer as I did having the one they love be ripped away from them) Severus thought, but simply said. “Yes, you do.”
Harry nodded, glancing at Draco, who was making faces at him from behind Severus, and tried not to smile.
“What do we do now?” Draco asked in an offhand tone as he inspected an ivory statue of a snake wrapped around a lion’s neck.
“What ever we want I suppose.” Harry said as he grinned widely at Draco, and Severus shrugged.
He saw no reason to tell the boys quite yet they would never be able to see any of their friends again. They were too happy at the moment, he didn’t want to ruin their second birth with such unwelcome news.
No, the bad part of surviving would be a lesson for a different tomorrow.
