Summary: The past is sometimes too painful to remember. This is for all the broken hearts.

Author's Notes: There are a lot of ships here. But the focus is on non-cannon. There will be flashbacks and the invocation of myths and legends and there will be lots of mystery, romance but everything comes with a pinch of angst, so if you're expecting fluff bail now. The story seems kinda strange in the beginning but it'll all make sense soon. Read and review if you want to but please read. I'm a virgin here so please be gentle.

It wasn't everyday that you saw someone you presumed was dead, and that too for so long. You tended to wonder what they had been up to, how they'd dealt with all the vicious rumours or whether they'd been living in a cave all this time. These and more questions were plaguing the mind of one blond-haired former pupil of Hogwarts. Sadly, he knew that due to her brief appearance and then disappearance, these questions would never be answered. And so giving the redhead as little thought as possible, Draco Lucien Malfoy, took his dear beloved wife to bed. It did no good to dwell on the past, and as he watched his beautiful mate fall into an exhausted sleep after their daily nighttime bedroom activities, he came to the conclusion that solving the mystery of Ginevra's past would do him no good.

The next day of course, wherever he went he could not avoid it. Her picture, taken during the celebration last night was plastered over the Daily Prophet and her name was on the airwaves thanks to the WWW. All conversations seemed to be about Ginevra and soon it seemed that the entire Wizarding World was abuzz with her appearance. Compounding the problem was the fact that Dumbledore was urging all Level One clearance members to attend a secret meeting, and Draco Malfoy, former spy in the Death Eater camp had rightfully earned his place as a Loner, the code name for all those with the highest security clearance in the Order of The Phoenix, was forced to attend.

With a heavy heart, Draco Malfoy made his way to 12 Grimmauld Place and took part in what would be the first of several fact finding missions, as if he was a lowly Auror-in-training and should have to do all the legwork. But of course it made the humiliation a mere footnote as even Precious Potter and the old bat Snape would be taking part in such an endeavour.

"We have received word that news of Ginevra's return has reached the Death Eater camps, there has been a flurry of activity that our charm sensors have picked up. This can only mean that her presence means something to them," briefed Alastor Moody, who was still known as Mad-eye Moody to most. "I have organized a team of Aurors to investigate the activity, covertly of course, the DE should not be aware that we're keeping such a close watch on them."

Ever since Voldemort's disappearance five years ago, there had been a rumour spreading like a plague upon the land, that he-who-must-not-be-named was planning a spectacular comeback. Ever since then the Ministry of Magic had been on high alert, all Aurors on call and the Department of Mysteries working overtime. It still peeved Draco not to be aware of what was going on with the Unspeakables; they seemed to have branched out on their own. There was too much going on at their headquarters not to go unnoticed and the level of secrecy was such that even the great Dumbledore was not privy to sensitive Unspeakable information. So it was up to Draco and Potter now to liaison with the Department and seek out some answers, because Snape, the Lead, believed that only the Unspeakables knew the real reasons related to Ginevra Weasley and the Death Eaters still at large.

He returned to the Manor tired, but when he caught sight of his beautiful wife entertaining what was left of the last few guests at her tea party, his mood changed rather abruptly. He remembered how it had all began, and it hadn't been like the things you read, no love at first sight or any such rubbish. Blaise Zabini had always been his friend, she was the one constant in his life, to him she had always been sexless, someone who was always there for him. When he'd first gotten together with Parkinson it was Blaise who had talked him through his first real relationship, the one who had let him sound off his ideas for Pansy on her. Whenever he'd faced defeat at the hands of Harry Potter at Quidditch, it had been Blaise who'd helped him plot revenge and when he'd fallen for Potter's then estranged girlfriend Hermoine Granger, it had been Blaise who had kept their secrets and helped arrange clandestine meetings.

Only when Potter had suggested his own designs on Blaise had Draco Malfoy realised that she was a girl and a beautiful one at that. Of course this realization had come during his ill-advised affair with Ginevra Weasley and sadly for the redheaded witch, their relationship had ended quite as soon as it had begun.

Now as he watched Blaise make her way toward him he realised that his sudden brush off of Ginevra might come back to bite him in the arse. After all he hadn't been very nice to her when he'd told her to bugger off, but then Malfoys didn't owe that to anyone but their own. He had hoped she'd get the hint after he had stopped returning her calls, but sadly it had been at the Annual Cotillion, where she'd found out that he had been in love with someone else all along. Now of course he thought she might be back to seek revenge on him, he had thrown her out of the loft they had shared, but what was he supposed to do. He'd wanted Blaise and Ginevra would have just been in the way, back in those days, Blaise and him used to go at it like rabbits.

This thought brought him back to the present and as Blaise embraced him and lifted her face to his for a kiss, all thoughts of Ginevra Weasley were completely erased.
