Color Wars Part Two: Red and Green
Chapter Ten: Green Gets Its Name
In less than an instant, Leah found herself in front of Billy’s garage. She stumbled a bit from not being used to teleporting, but she managed to keep from falling.
Billy was already heading toward his garage lab. Leah quickly ran after him.
“Billy!” She shouted. “Wait up! What’s the big hurry?”
“I know it’s here…” Billy mumbled. He was looking through his geological collection.
“What are you doing?” Leah asked.
“Several months ago, I went on a field trip to explore a cave,” Billy said. “During that trip, I found a strange, green rock, illuminating oddly. I didn’t know what it was, but I took it home with me intending to study it lager. I have been unable to do so, however, because barely two days later I was chosen to be the Blue Power Ranger.”
“What does that have to do with getting us home?” Leah asked.
“Absolutely nothing,” Billy said. “I only said that because I wasn’t sure how everyone would react if they knew what I was really going to do.”
“Which is…?”
Billy grinned. “Give it to you.”
Leah blinked. “Huh?”
“You’ve seen the stones that your Rangers use as a power source, correct?” Leah nodded. “Well,” Billy continued. “I have concluded that the stone I found that day is similar to those power sources that the Dino Rangers use.”
Leah’s eyes got wide. “You mean…”
“Precisely,” Billy said. “Aha!” Billy brought down a box from the top shelf in his lab. He showed the box to Leah, and opened it slowly. “It’s a Dino Gem.”
Leah looked at the gem in awe. She met Billy’s eyes. “So… what do I do with it?”
Billy lifted his shoulders slightly. “Just pick it up, I suppose…”
Leah picked up the gem. Almost instantly, she felt a power surge through her. “Whoa…” She looked at Billy again. “Now what?”
“Now we make a Morpher,” said a voice.
“Yes, now we make a--” Billy paused. He turned around, but he couldn’t see anyone. “Who said that?”
“There’s no one there!” Leah exclaimed.
“Down here.” Both Leah and Billy looked down to see a tiny robotic triceratops.
Billy’s eyes got wide. “Is… that…?”
The triceratops smiled. “My name is Cera,” he said.
“Where did you come from?” Billy asked.
“You,” Cera said. “But of course in the future.”
“What are you doing here?” Leah asked.
“I’m here to help you,” Cera said. “We are going to make a Morpher. And we’re going to make it fast. Your friends need help.”
A blast scattered the Rangers. The battle wasn’t going well, and Jason knew it. He made his way over to Connor.
“This isn’t working,” he said.
“I noticed,” Connor replied. “But what can we do?”
“Ahh!” Kira was blasted back by a Putty. Connor and Jason ran over to her.
“Are you okay?” Jason asked.
“Ow….” Kira mumbled. “I suppose…” She looked at Connor. “I don’t have to say we’re losing bad. What are we going to do?”
“I don’t know, Kira,” Connor said. “We’ve just got to keep fighting!”
Elsa watched the Rangers in glee. “We should’ve thought of this months ago,” she said to Zeltrax. “The Rangers are helpless in this time. Even with the old Rangers helping them, they can’t fight.”
“Just remember our deal, creature,” Scorpina said to Elsa. “Your ‘TyrannoDrones’ have to destroy the Rangers.”
“Trust me,” Elsa said, glaring at Scorpina. “They don’t stand a chance.”
“And, when the Green Ranger is destroyed, so will Dr. Oliver,” Zeltrax exclaimed. “Then I will be the one to work for Dr. Mercer and this accident will be avoided! I shall finally have my revenge!”
Goldar raised an eyebrow at Zeltrax. “Whatever you have against Tommy Oliver cannot possibly amount to my hatred of him.”
Zeltrax glared. “Wanna bet?”
“Bring it on!”
“Boys!” Elsa shouted. “Stop arguing! I’m trying to watch the show!”
Zack watched the four titans in disbelief. “They’re playing with us!” he said.
“Well, I’m sick of being played with!” Ethan said.
Trent paused and held his position. “Then let’s even out the score!” he said. He crossed his chest with his arms. “SUPER DINO MODE!”
Connor grinned under his helmet. “I’m with Trent,” he said. He closed his eyes and concentrated. “TRIASSIC POWER ENGAGE!” Instantly he became the Triassic Ranger.
“He’s getting good at doing that on his own,” Kira said as she activated her Super Dino Mode.
“Good, because I’m sick of giving him my powers,” Ethan said, following Kira’s example.
The Morphin’ Rangers watched in awe. “Awesome powers!” Zack commented.
“That might be all the advantage we need,” Jason said. “Let’s do it!” And everyone charged.
Alpha was hopping up and down. “They’re powers are amazing!” he said. “Are all future Rangers like this?”
“A lot of them,” Billy said. “You should see their Zords. Tommy made them himself.”
“Not really,” Tommy said. “Dr. Anton Mercer helped. I couldn’t have done that all on my own.”
Billy tried to keep away from the subject of Dr. Mercer. “Anyway, the Zords are even more powerful.”
Alpha just got more excited. “The future of Power Rangers looks bright!” he said.
Zordon hadn’t said anything. He just watched the viewing globe in earnest. But he wasn’t watching the battle. He was watching Billy.
“BILLY,” he said suddenly. “YOU HAVE CHANGED GREATLY FROM THE PERSON YOU ARE TODAY. IS THERE A SPECIFIC REASON FOR THIS?”
Billy didn’t answer. Instead he stood up and started to walk out of the room. “I’m going to get something to eat. You want something Tommy?”
Tommy just blinked. “Uh… sure, I guess…”
“Alright, I’ll be back soon.” And Billy was gone.
Alpha tiled his head. “What’s wrong with Billy?”
Tommy sighed and shrugged. “I don’t know…” he said. “Ever since he returned from Aquitar, he’s been acting this way. Or at least since he joined us again.”
“AQUITAR?” Zordon questioned. “WHY WAS HE ON AQUITAR?”
“There will be a time in the future when Rita will be usurped by Lord Zedd,” Tommy said. “I’m sure you already know who he is. One of his plots was to turn back time and make us all children again. Though we were aware that we were Power Rangers, we couldn’t Morph. During that time, we called on the Power Rangers from Aquitar to fight Zedd since we couldn’t. Soon Billy created a device that allowed us to become older again. Unfortunately he was only able to use it on himself before Zedd destroyed it. Later after the problem was fixed, the device had a strange side effect on Billy. It turned him into an old man within a matter of hours. The only way to reverse the process was the ‘Fountain of Youth’ water on Aquitar. Billy stayed up there after he was restored.” Tommy paused. “But he came back a few years ago. He didn’t tell any of us when he did, and he still hasn’t told me why he did in the first place. I think something horrible must’ve happened to him…”
“HMM,” Zordon said. “I THINK YOU MAY BE CORRECT…”
CRASH! Even with the Dino Thunder Rangers using their highest level of power, they were still unable to defeat the ever growing army of Putties and TyrannoDrones. Soon the Rangers found themselves unmorphed and lying in a pile surrounded by their foes.
“Great,” Kira said. “Now what do we do?”
“I don’t know…” Jason said. “But we’re running out of time…”
“Contact Billy,” Zack suggested.
“I’ve been trying,” Jason responded. “Nothing. I don’t know where he is.”
“Whatsa matter, Rangers?” Elsa challenged. “Run out of spunk? Why don’t you just surrender, and we’ll make your deaths rather painless.”
Connor stood up. “We will never give in to you!” he shouted. “Keep dreaming!”
Elsa frowned angrily. “Fine, have it your way!” she said, and she and Goldar raised their weapons. The Rangers braced themselves for the impact.
“Oh, no you don’t, you freaks!” Everyone turned to see Cera and Tiger in full battle mode, racing toward them. They stood in front of the Rangers, ready to defend them at a moments notice.
“Cera!” Connor shouted.
“Who?” Zack asked.
“Billy’s Mini-Zord,” Ethan explained.
Kimberly blinked. “Billy’s what?”
“Never mind, let Dr. C explain that.”
Goldar laughed at the Zords. “Whose toys are these?”
“They aren’t toys,” Elsa said, glaring at the two Mini-Zords. “They are quite the opposite.”
“You must have it easy, if you can’t beat these windup dolls,” Goldar said.
Elsa shrugged. “If they’re that easy, then you beat them,” she said.
“Gladly,” Goldar grinned, and rushed the two Zords.
Cera nodded to Tiger, and the Zords rushed under Goldar’s legs and knocked him on his tail. Goldar sat dumbfounded, until Tiger started laughing.
“Not so easy, eh monkey?” she said. Cera wasn’t smiling. He stared at Goldar with an angry flame in his eye. Connor felt like Cera knew Goldar; and he didn’t like him. At all.
Goldar forced himself to his feet. He turned to attack the Zords again, growling, but he didn’t get to. Cera pounced on him, forcing him to the ground. Cera stood over him, growling under his breath.
“If I could kill you right now,” he said forcefully. “They wouldn’t even find your shadow…” Goldar gulped.
Suddenly Cera let out a yip, and tumbled forward into Tiger then into the Rangers. Elsa had blasted him with her sword. “Annoying pest,” she said. “That’ll teach you.” Goldar got up and ran to the rest of his group.
Connor made his way to the injured Cera. “Cera! Are you okay?” Cera moaned painfully, but nodded.
“But… I can’t… fight…” he muttered.
“Great,” Zack said. “I’d say we hit rock bottom…”
“Seems so,” Elsa said. She grinned, and adjusted something on her weapon. “I wonder what’s below rock bottom?” She pointed the weapon at the Rangers. “Let’s find out.”
“No, let’s not!” shouted a voice, and suddenly Elsa’s group was covered in a barrage of laser fire. The smoke cleared, and Billy, fully morphed with his gun in his hand, was seen standing in front of the Ranger group.
“Yeah, Billy!” Trini called out.
“Did you find a way for us to get home?” Connor asked.
“No,” Billy said. “I found something better.”
Ethan cocked his head. “What could be better than home?”
“In this situation,” Leah said running up. “Help!”
Jason paled. “You brought a Leah with you?” he asked appalled. “She can’t morph. She’s only a civilian!”
“She won’t be one for long,” Billy said. “Why don’t you show them, Leah?”
“Of course,” she said, and held up her left hand. Connor’s eyes got wide as he noticed the Dino Gem bracelet now residing on her wrist.
“What the…?”
Leah brought the Morpher, now fully activated, up to her chin, and grinned. She opened her mouth. “Green Ranger, Dino Power!” She activated her morphing sequence. Suddenly a lush jungle appeared behind her. She jumped straight up and held her arms out, as her body was wrapped by a pair of giant webbed wings, becoming her suit. She fell to her feet, and a large dragon head engulfed her own, and became her helmet. She stood up straight and made a pose. “Dragon Power, hiya!”
Leah looked over her new costume. The helmet had two horns sticking out from the top, and it had a little skirt. The gold and black Dino symbol on her chest shined brightly. “Whoa! This rocks out loud!”
“Cool!” Ethan said. “A new Ranger!”
“Kicking!” Zack said.
Elsa grunted. “So the White Power brat’s cousin is in it now…” She growled. “So what!”
Leah took a fighting pose. “I’ve been waiting my whole life for this moment,” she said. “I’m not going to let it go to waste!”
“Are you ready than Leah?” Billy asked.
“Wait!” Leah asked. “What about my weapon?”
“Right here!” Tiger called out. Leah turned, and Tiger threw her handmade weapon at Leah. As soon as Leah caught it, it changed. The blades became sharper, more defined. The staff became green, and the edges of the blades turned gold. Leah stared in fascination.
“Ready now?” Billy asked.
“Yes, ready!”
“Then follow my lead!” and Billy lead the charge with Leah on his heels.
“Let’s give ‘em some backup, guys!” Connor shouted and morphed. The others followed his example. The two extra Rangers with Tiger gave the combined team the extra power they needed, and soon, they gained the advantage.
Dr. O shrugged. “Don’t let their fancy moves fool you. It’s mostly the Dino Gems give them power. Except for Connor, none of them were really at top physical condition until I got to them.”
“Don’t give yourself so much credit,” Dr. Cranston said. “They’re very good in their own right.” Suddenly Billy looked at the screen, his eyes wide. “Hold the phone…”
Dr. O stared too. “Oh, no…”
So she took her staff…
And gave the foursome a makeover.
A really big makeover.
“That’s bad…” Connor mumbled.
“I’d say it’s Zord time,” Jason said. “You still have those, right?”
“Duh,” Kira said.
“But I don’t…” Leah said.
“You will soon,” Cera said, walking weakly up to Leah. “Here…” He handed Leah a small weapon.
The Dragon Dagger.
No sooner had she touched it, did it change too. It became more elegant and more feminine.
Leah’s eyes got wide. “I get the Dragon Zord…?”
“Hey, Dr. C. said the Dragon Zord needed a Green Ranger,” Connor said. “I guess you’re it.”
Tommy moved over to Leah and nodded to her. “You ready?”
Leah paused a second, then nodded. The two Green Rangers brought their flutes up to their helmets and played. Tommy’s played the crisp, clear sound of a trumpet. But Leah’s played the soft and soothing sound of a flute.
Down at the Industrial District, Tommy’s Dragon Zord was emerging. Then it came charging over.
But Leah’s didn’t answer.
Connor frowned. “Maybe we can’t summon our Zords in this time…”
But the water by the Industrial District stirred again. A bright red light, in the shape of an eye, lit the water. In two swift swoops, the second Dragon Zord flew up and landed in the park next to his “ancestor”. It took a moment to reach down and sniff Leah. Leah stood perfectly still to show she wasn’t afraid. After a moment, it licked Leah, who moaned in disgust. Then it stood up, ready for battle.
Leah threw her hands down. “Yuck…” she mumbled. “But at least it’s accepts me…”
“Dr. O,” Connor said over his communicator. “Do you think we can summon our Zords too?”
“It’s worth a shot,” Dr. O’s voice came over the communicator. “Anything can happen now.”
“Man, I’ll never get used to that,” Tommy said.
“Okay, we’ll give it a whirl,” Connor said. He turned to his group. “Ready?”
“Ready!”
Jason turned to the sky. “We need Dino Zord power, now!”
“Time for a little help from the big guys!” Ethan shouted.
Soon both Megazords were formed. Now it was four against four.
“I’m liking these odds,” Ethan said.
“Yeah, time to kick some monster booty!” Zack said.
Leah’s Dragon Zord snorted. He seemed angry at Goldar. Leah was taken aback when it suddenly charged Goldar on his own power. Goldar fell back, and tried to keep the snarling Dragon away from him. Leah wrestled with the controls, but to no avail.
“Leah, can’t you keep that thing under control!” Conner yelled into his communicator.
“No, I can’t!” Leah shouted back. “It really doesn’t like Goldar for some reason. Just take it as a stroke of luck and get the rest of them!”
“Fine, we will!” The Dino Thunder Rangers powered up their Zord and went straight for Elsa. The Megazord went after Scorpina. That left Zeltrax to his future rival and foe.
“Prepare to breathe your last, Oliver,” Zeltrax said.
“I don’t think so,” Tommy said, and he commanded the Dragon Zord to charge.
Leah sat back helplessly as her Zord relentlessly attacked Goldar. It was all Goldar could do to keep from getting hit. Suddenly the Zord backed off a little. Goldar stood relieved. But not for long. The Dragon Zord was preparing his biggest attack. He held his head high as large amounts of energy gathered in front of his mouth. Goldar wasn’t going to wait around for that. Just as the Dragon was done, Goldar teleported away, and the Zord instead aimed its attack at something else. Scorpina. She had just been moving in for a big blow, but was cut off with the attack and was reverted to her human form. Then she was gone. The Mighty Morphin’ Rangers sighed relief.
The Dino Rangers were still fighting with Elsa, and she was having a hard time keeping up. Connor grinned under his helmet.
“Apparently being bigger doesn’t always mean being better,” he said smugly.
Elsa sneered. “You’ll pay for that remark,” she said.
“What is with this ‘paying’ thing everyone keeps talking about?” Trent asked.
“Let’s finish this!” Ethan said, and the four Rangers activated the Dino Drill.
“Dino Drill, engage!” Connor shouted, and aimed right for Elsa. But Elsa was prepared for that, and escaped through an invisaportal before she got hit. Now only Zeltrax was left, and he was fighting hard.
“I will not leave without revenge!” he shouted, and moved in to attack. But just as he did, he got caught in an invisaportal. “What? NO!” he shouted before he disappeared completely. Tommy blinked.
“What was that?” he asked.
“Apparently his boss knew he was in a losing battle,” Connor said.
Ethan smiled. “Less work for us,” he said.
“Can we go home now?” Kira asked.
“Sounds like a plan,” Trent said.
Leah grinned. “That,” she said. “Was the coolest thing that has ever happened to me.”
