Alphonse liked to spend his free time enjoying his freshly restored senses. He could lay about for hours at a time observing the simple things that he had taken for granted before he had been ripped from his human body. Al found the sky to be especially intriguing.

He revelled in seeing the purest of blues, whites, pinks, and oranges splayed together in the passionate dance of sunset. He found it fascinating to see the clouds above him drift at various speeds from one side of the sky to the other. He would see shapes and figures amidst the shades of grey. There were puppies tumbling about in games of dominance, struggling to survive the breath of the gentle mother who formed them.

Al knew before every change in weather. Edward could never figure out how he did it. Al would come home seconds before it rained, or just in time to warn him of danger. Al could recognize the signs of an approaching storm or cold front, and he knew by the subtle changes in the mother's breath. He could hear her whispers of warnings and he could see them written clearly in the clouds.

Sometimes Edward would come out and lay by his side in attempts to experience the contentedness that Al felt.

When Edward gazed up into the heavens, he would see things differently than Al. Edward didn't see the picture book that nature opened up for his brother. Sure, he saw the clouds, the stars at night, and the beauty of the sunsets and sunrises, but he couldn't fathom the ludicrousness of puppies and sailboats that Al would point out.

Edward did enjoy looking at the sky though, even if it wasn't magical. He would look past what the atmosphere and universe could display. He would look into himself and sit audience to the epitome of memories. He would smile fondly at his younger brother attempting (in vain) to climb a steep hill, and he would feel the sting of tears as he watched as the years of torment finally ended and he could see those peacock grey eyes once more.

The Elric brothers enjoyed looking to the sky. Like every aspect of their lives, they experienced it together in twin divergence.
