I wrote this a couple weeks after watching Spirited Away. I hope you like it even though it’s not exactly about Spirited Away.

I’d watch him everyday,

From the window of my room.

Watch him fly away,

In the early morning gloom.

As the sun rose,

And the skies turned to red.

I’d listen very carefully,

For the phrase he always said.

“Make it your dream to fly away,

And someday it shall be.

But only if it’s true to heart,

Will you be sent to me.”

“I promise I will fly someday,

And I’ll soar straight to you.

But only if what you say,

Really can come true.”

I promised this every morning,

When I saw him glide outside.

I only wish I knew what he meant,

Since humans couldn’t fly.

Because I had no wings,

Or feathers to help me.

I went to study my handsome friend,

And was startled to see.

I didn’t have to search the skies,

To find him in the distance.

Instead he lay in my front yard,

Waiting by the picket fence.

I ran down stairs and out the door,

And knelt in front of him.

Waiting for him to say something wise,

In the early morning dim.

He starred at me, I starred at him,

His beauty outshone mine.

His shining scales and whiskers,

Were the color of red wine.

His belly and claws glittered gold,

And I promise I’m not bragging.

Because can’t you tell that my handsome friend,

Was a lovely Chinese dragon?
