A/N: This is kinda like my skewed take (or one of them rather) on the MMX universe. The first few chapters/segments are going to be slightly choppy. I'm highlighting some events in the past to have and understanding for the future. I also haven't decided if this is Yaoi or not.. Probably not but this is me after all. Hmm...might even do two versions of it. One with and one without. No major original characters (basically only minimal characters and a few bad guys who aren't the main point of the story are made by me.) Anyway on w/ the show.
X stood shaking looking at the message he had just received. It wasn't possible. It wasn't at all. He couldn't be...it wasn't possible. Nothing ever went good for the great Rockman X.
Five Years ago.
X sighed; He had told Dr. Cain that he didn't want to be a Hunter of these Maverick repliods. Hunting his own kind seemed creepy, but Dr. Cain had talked him into it. Saying he would be an invaluable tool to all of Maverick Hunters. So now here he was hauling his trunk down the hall to his dorm he /hoped/ was on this floor and down this hallway. He was paying particular interest in the walls and markings as to find his way back here again in case he got lost (it seems so very easy in the large building), when he accidentally ran into someone.
"Hey watch it." said a rough voice.
X dropped his trunk as it sprung open and scattered things everywhere. "I'm sorry" he said has he bent down to pick up a book as it was kicked away from him. A white hand reached down and yanked his head up.
"I don't think you understand." X was looking up into the eyes of a repliod with red armor and violent eyes. But his most outstanding feature was his long blonde hair. "You had better learn to show Commander Sigma more respect, or-" the blonde repliod stepped rather hard on another book of X's causing the spine to break "– We'll make sure that you can't do anything again for a very very long time. I can tell that you're new. Your trunk and your lack of respect, anyone who had been here even a week would know to respect us. I'll let you off easy this time. Feel lucky"
X stayed silent for a bit fearing what this repliod would do to him. The other one with him started laughing "Aww Zero you know what we have here?"
"No what?" said the one now known as Zero. He let go of him and started casually conversing with Sigma.
"That's the doctor's pet. I heard Signas talk about a new recruit. Be careful he's likely to go whine to the good doctor"
Instead of looking scared Zero just grinned. "Oh the little wussy boy is going to go run to the doc. Well if that's all you got then you shouldn't even be here. I'll see you around" Zero said as Sigma and him walked off, talking as if they hadn't done anything.
Zero sighed this was the worst thing to happen. What had he let the professor talk him into? He was attempting to pick up his things and put them back in his trunk ( a feat that had taken him 2 hours before) he was struggling when a hand appear with a book he had missed in it.
"Here you go." Said the repliod holding the book, he was a purple repliod with black hair and green eyes.
Smiling he said "New here I take it?"
"Yah what was your first clue?" said X trying to stuff things back in his trunk.
"I saw what happened. Those two are assholes but the humans don't do anything about it because they are the best Maverick Hunters around." said the purple one.
X sighed giving up on closing the thing up and attempting to pick it up half open. "Here let me help you. Name's Vava by the way." He said taking part of the trunk for X.
"Thanks. Glad to see not everyone here is a complete ass." Said X looking around and sighing.
"Something wrong?" asked Vava.
"No idea which way I'm suppose to be going"
"Whats your room number?"
"A7 36B"
"Oh! That's kinda funny" said Vava with a smile.
"Why?"
"That's just down here. Looks like you and me are roommates." winked Vava.
X blinked. The professor hadn't said anything about sharing a room. A place this big and they had to share rooms? Oh well at least it could be worse. He could have been rooming with someone like Sigma or Zero. At least this Vava seemed rather nice. X smiled.
"I'm X looks like we are going to have plenty of time to get to know each other then."
They arrived at the room and Vava opened the door and stepped in. "That is your bed over there. I haven't had a roommate for a while."
"What happened to the last one?" X was curious.
Vava's face darkened a bit. "He didn't come back"
"Oh sorry." X felt really rather stupid. This was a maverick hunter base. Top two reasons he would be roommate less. A.) Roommate dies in battle or B) Roommate gets infected.
"Its ok it's not your fault. It's good to see someone who isn't on pins and needles around me after it. So please don't be." Said Vava with a half smile.
X nodded slightly in understanding. Vava was his roommate now. It wouldn't be good to go and upset him. X went about the task of putting his things away. Vava showed him his desk and helped him put away some of his books. The slight tension in the air dissipated as time went on. And soon the two were relaxing a bit talking.
"So the Doc built you?" said Vava curiously.
"Well no not exactly." Said X scratching his head.
"Then what?" Vava tilted his head.
"He kinda /found/ me" said looking up.
"Found you?" Vava's confusion spread. "Then who made you?"
"Erm uh we don't know" said X looking a bit embarrassed.
"You don't know? It should be cataloged." said Vava.
X shook his head. "Dr. Cain said there was no surviving record from 100 years ago."
Vava nearly fell off his chair. "What? Your one hundred years old? That's...that's"
"Crazy, yah I know, I understand if you don't believe me" Said X
"No its not that" Vava shook his head. "It's just well...I don't think even Commander Zero is that /old/ that's before the cataclysm!"
X nodded. "Yah I know" he rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.
Vava stared at X for a moment blinked and then smiled. "Well if you promise to treat me normally I'll do the same for you."
X grinned and nodded, shaking Vava's out stretched hand. It felt good to have a friend outside the professor and of his own kind. At least he thought he could consider Vava a friend. "We are friends now right." X asked suddenly looking up a Vava.
Vava just grinned and laughed. "You are new, for being over 100 years old. Yah we're friends. If you want to be that is."
"Oh yah of course!" X said fearing he had offended Vava.
"Relax blue boy, you're too stressed out. If you don't you won't last a week here before lifesaver has to untighten your bolts. "
The next week went by easy enough. X was introduced to his Commander, she seemed much nicer then Zero and Sigma had been. He was also delighted to find he was in the same squad as Vava was. Outside taking to hiding when ever he saw Sigma and Zero (he had yet to see the two apart) everyone else had seemed if not nice at least not completely rude.
It was a free period right now between training. X sighed and put his head down on the table.
"Something wrong X, you look so blue" Vava laughed lightly sitting down next to his friend.
"Haha very funny." X swatted at Vava.
"Yah Signas told me I should go on tour." Vava winked at X.
"Vava that was only to get you out of our hair."
"Aw and here I thought you all loved me."
"Distance makes the heart grow fonder they say."
"Yah yah we could go on like this all day. But seriously what's wrong?" Vava put his head next to X's as he turned his the other way.
X mumbled something that Vava couldn't hear.
"What now?" asked Vava.
"I said Dr. Cain wants to see me this evening."
"Oh why would he...oh ya." Realization dawned on Vava. "Why is that bad?"
"How many others does he keep tabs on." Said X
"Well erm..uh...well there is...um" said Vava trying to think fast.
"None, I'm never going to be able to prove myself." Said X
"I thought you didn't want to come here in the first place."
"I didn't. Cuz I didn't think I would fit in. Now I start to think I am and he calls me up. I can't not go and seem ungrateful, but if I do go then everyone will think that he's playing favorites."
"Well he kinda is. From what you told me your like a son to him."
X just made a face that said 'oh so you think I'm no good too'
"Oh don't get your bolts in a twist. I still think your really good. And you'll prove it too on your own merit. You're the best in our unit.- oh don't give me that face, you are – it may take a bit more for some to respect you, but even those who don't now will see it."
The pair sat in silence that wasn't completely uncomfortable for a bit. Vava could tell X was thinking, so he didn't probe him any further.
"Thanks Vava." Said X finally standing up.
"You going to see the old man?" said Vava.
"Yah" said X.
"Want some company?"
"Sure." Said X and parted the room.
And things were hard on X but with Vava as his friend they seemed easier then first thought. And X did prove himself too many people in the coming months.
X turned the corner. He had been on runs to fight off mavericks several times since he came to headquarters...but this was the first time things had turned out so...badly. He himself was fine but Vava...well Lifesaver was working on him at the moment. He was so lost in thought he wasn't watching those around him.
"Hey" said an all too familiar voice. X groaned inside.
Zero walked towards him. X was shocked not to see Sigma with him. But then remember he too had been injured in the battle.
"I remember you. You were the one in Cestia's Unit." Zero said point at him. "The one that fought off the three mavericks to get your friend (Zero drew out the word) back. You did a good job at it but something you need to learn." Zero said now standing toe to toe with him. "You got lucky and you probably wont again. Don't' go back for them. One dead reploid is bad enough in this fight. But a second needlessly is even worse."
Zero walked on down the hall and turned back. "I'm still watching you. Shape up before you take the whole unit down." And walked off.
X stood shaking he was so mad. Zero had done the same has him to get a Sigma. How dare he? Did he really think so little of those around him? They weren't worthy of saving? Simply cannon fodder to through in front of the enemy, easily replaced? X hoped he would never be expect to work with him. Hell if he was going to be picked on for being favored by Dr. Cain he was going to use it. He would ask the Doc, to make sure he never ended up in the same unit as those two.
X continued on down the hall, he wanted to go check up on Vava's progress. He walked through the door and up to Vava's pod. He looked through the glass. Vava was asleep, but Lifesaver walked over to X. "I heard you're the one that pulled him out, He's very lucky to have a friend like you. He should be ok in a few days after his energy levels stabilize. You should get some rest I'll let him know you where here to visit him when he wakes."
X nodded leaving the room. That was the last time he would see Vava. At least when Vava was his friend.
Present-
X closed his eyes, and cried. He had only known Vava for a few months but they had become close. Closer then anyone X had ever known. Zero was now his best friend- forged out of a mutual loss. He made up his mind he had to go see for himself. So it was slowly that Rockman X made his way down the trek to the med lab, a path he knew to well.
Well that's it for the first chapter I hope you like it. And most people should know who Vava is. If you don't well you'll find out next chapter. Please review -
