"Her eyes stung, tears for the beauty of it scalded away before they could drop. Was that why she cried? For the beauty? And something else. Pain. She remembered that people cry for beauty and pain, and seeing both together was almost unbearable."

Enna Burning, by Shannon Hale

Afire

I dream of seeing you
through droplets of perspiration, like beads
running in rivulets, trickling
and falling onto your bare skin
bathed in the blaze
of my burning eyes
and washed by the heat
of my desire.

As unsteady fingers stoke the fire
the tongues of flame leaping higher
flicker, licking the margins
that hold you in my slumber
and lingering, close in
on the blackened, crumbling edges
of this vision of you.

They seem unsure whether to devour,
to set this yearning, so painful already, ablaze
to be lost within the hour
in a choking pall of acrid smoke
and teary haze.

To lose you
my longing
forever.

P/N: Seeing that there are Zaibach fans out there who really do love Dilandau, I can re-post this poem without feeling ashamed.
