Fair warning: "Haunted" spoilers

Dear Friend

I watch you in your form of slumber

As you lie within your room.

You are exhausted,

Fast asleep,

So you do not notice as I come nearer-

Nearer,

And yet nearer

Until I can observe the rhythmic convulsions

Of your fragile, earthen body.

How greatly have you hurt yourself…

I tremble

And begin shaking

As I observe those bruises, cuts, and scars

Upon your body.

What grave pain you have inflicted upon yourself…

Sadness,

An overwhelming flush of despondency,

is all that I can feel as I continue watching.

Had I been a better friend,

Had I continued following you

After you bade me to leave,

Had I pretended that I too saw Slade,

Had I escaped the room sooner

To come to your aid,

You would not be as critically damaged

As you are.

I am a most terrible friend, Robin,

And I apologize for that.

Your life was almost lost

Because of emotions that I should hide away,

But you must understand how painful

It was to hear those angry words escape from your lips,

Your angry grasp upon my arm…

I am startled for an instant

When I hear you stir…

Could you have known that I have been here

For the past half hour

Merely looking upon your form?

How should I explain this,

How can I begin to describe the thoughts

That flow through my mind?

Your eyes twitch slightly,

"Robin, I am…"

and you commence in your slumber.

I remain unnoticed,

A mere shadow within the room.

You will never be alone, my dearest friend.

AN: I always like reading reflective pieces on good TT episodes afterwards, and I just wanted to share this poem. Sorry if it isn't up to par to with the episode. This was actually written in a pretty short span of time and also my first posted attempt at TT poetry.
