Alphonse curled into a little ball under the weight of his new blanket. He'd just been given his own bed and it felt cold without the warmth of his brother next to him. The sound of heavy water droplets hitting the roof was comforting until it was accompanied with the scratching at the window and the noisy claps of thunder.
He peeked his head out to glance across the dark bedroom at the huddled form of Edward in the next bed. He pouted inwardly, Niisan's probably already asleep. He's not a baby like me whose scared of a storm.. that's what he'd say. Alphonse pulled the blanket over his head once more. It wouldn't be too long before the storm let off. He'd just wait.
A few minutes passed and the storm still raged on. The few minutes turned into half an hour, then a full hour. He was sleepy and it seemed like there was no escape from the angry thrashing of the leaves and the roaring thunder.
Movement in his bed startled him. He cowered farther under his blanket, tensing up. The weight in his bed shifted as whatever it was made itself comfortable, pressing right up against him! He felt his heart race and he wanted to call out for his big brother to help him, but he was too scared.
He tried to shy away from this pressence, but whenever he moved back, the thing moved closer. He could feel the edge of the bed behind him, and he could feel the thing's hot breath in his hair. He felt his own tears swelling up in his eyes and he wanted to call out to his brother to help him, but he was too scared.
This had to stop, if it didn't, he'd never be able to get any sleep. He took a deep breath and gathered up all of his courage. He pulled the blanket back, and with a yell, he threw the thing off the bed and it hit the ground in a loud 'thump.'
Al crawled over to the edge of the bed with a triumphant grin and looked down at the pitiful creature that wanted to scare him. He was greeted by a very scary sight indeed, it had angry, piercing eyes and a snarl that showed pearly-white canines. Al yelped and pulled the blanket back over his head.
"Aru! What's the big idea? I was just trying to comfort you 'cause you were scared!"
"I'm sorry, Niisan! I didn't know what you were! You should have said something!"
Edward grumbled and climbed back into the bed, this time getting under the blanket. "Even though you made me hit my head, I'll give you another chance, 'case you're still scared."
"But I think I can goto sleep now..." The rain had died down a little and he was ready to sleep by himself.
"No, you're still scared." Edward made himself comfortable and closed his eyes. He was close enough that Al could feel his back against his own when he laid back down.
Alphonse smiled a little bit to himself, I'm not the only one who was scared agter all... and he rolled over to snuggle against the warm back of his big brother.
"Mmph..." Edward grumbled sleepily, but he didn't push away the embrace.
"Goodnight, Niisan. Thanks for coming to sleep in my bed," Al whispered as he buried his face against his brother's shoulder blades and inhaled that familiar scent. He could feel that Edward had tensed when he thanked him, but he didn't say anything about it.
"Mm, 'welcome. 'Night, Aru..." Edward mumbled and sighed a little. He was smiling when he fell asleep soon after and Alphonse was doing the same.
