Between the Lines

Harry/Snape slash, no copyright infringement intended, just borrowing a few characters.

Harry watched the way his mouth moved, his words nothing but a low rumble in the background. His lips, a dull raspberry colour were pinched tightly with displeasure, forming a thin white outline around his mouth.

"… and totally irresponsible."

He never gestured much with his hands only the odd sharp, sudden shift of his hand to drive home a point.

"Brainless-"

His back and shoulders were held stiff. A sign he was holding back the full extent to his rage, tensed with restraint.

"Less common sense than a child."

His dark eyes bore into the scar on Harry's forehead, every once and a while darting down to make eye contact, to make sure Harry was still paying attention. Which he was, just not to the words.

"I've told you again and again…"

Frown lines formed around his mouth and brow. The permanent, thin lines becoming deeper, harsher.

"…ended up anywhere."

Harry swung his head back and forth as Snape took several measured strides to the left, then stalked back to the center of the desk he was behind. He was pacing.

"… or been killed."

Harry wasn't sure what Snape had said but he could tell by the flags of pink on the older man's olive skinned cheeks, so it must have been something Snape was worked up about.

"Bloody well, should have been hurt, would have taught you a lesson."

Harry noticed Snape's lips were no longer opening and closing.

"Are you finished?"

Snape growled menacingly in his throat, "For now."

"I promise never to chew gum and use the flu system at the same time again."

Snape snorted, the boy didn't sound apologetic at all. It may not seem like a big deal, but smacking gum can easily make words unintelligible, fluing one off to places unknown. Foolish, reckless imbecile. "Get out I have more work to do."

Harry paused at the door, slender fingers barely touching the brass handle. "Oh, and Sev?"

Snape glanced up, sensing Harry had stopped, his hands were folded over a small stack of potion lists, the slightest flutter of the papers giving away the tremor in his hands.

Harry's face was composed and his gaze direct, the only thing revealing what he truly feeling inside was a small twitch in the corner of his lips. "I love you too."

Harry disappeared into the shadows of the hallway before Snape could manage a response.
