In Loving Memory – A Sonnet

Handsome, sweeping your dark hair from your eyes,

When you were young, causing trouble with friends

Your world brought down by betrayals and lies

A secret whispered brought all to an end.

Guilty of no crime, you stayed locked away

Demons in black cloaks consuming your soul

How could one doubt where your loyalties lay?

The traitor killed your friends, you paid his toll.

But in the ruins, their son still remains

And you still felt bound to save him from harm

In your devotion, you broke from your chains

And rushed to his rescue, raised the alarm.

You fell through the veil, never will be back

But you live in our hearts, Sirius Black.
