The Complicated Mind Of A Five Year Old: Disruption

Chapter One

I Love You, Forever And Always

--

Valencia Keare Angel was a solitary sort. At school when asked to color that was exactly what she did. She knew her alphabet and her numbers up to thirty and every day her dad and her would practice them. So being a corporative girl such as herself, one would think she would sleep when told to, as well. But, to tell the truth that was her weakness. To Valencia, to sleep was to waste time and her daddy always told her that it took time to grow, and that had been Valencia's main goal since she was four and a half. Now as a grown-up five year old she had come up with the wise idea that she would grow much more if she cut some of her sleep.

"Pumpkin, go to sleep," she heard her mother say.

"I am not a pumpkin," she replied softly.

"This is no time for games Valencia, now go to sleep," her mother continued.

"No, sleep," she told her with a shake of her head.

"Do you want me to tell daddy you were a bad girl," she asked her daughter sternly.

"But, I'm daddy's princess," she told her mother with a pout.

"And princess' listen to there mothers," her mom continued sweetly, tickling her daughter at the ribs. She let out a laugh as her small head hit the pillow behind her.

"Happy?" The little girl asked.

"Ecstatic," she replied giving her daughter a small kiss on the forehead. As she backed away she pulled the blanket over her daughter's tiny shoulders. "Snug?"

"As a bug in a rug," she replied giving her mother a small smile.

"Okay," her mom told her leaning over the small twin size bed. "Love, you like pancakes," she continued quietly before backing towards the bedroom door.

"Mommy," the small child said softly before her mother could reach the light switch.

"Yes," the Texan replied.

"Will you tell me a story, please," she begged with a yawn.

"Okay, but only a short one," she told her walking towards her daughters bed once more. "Once upon a time, there was a prince and a princess they both lived on feuding ends of the kingdom. Now for some reason they were both strangely drawn to each other and soon they found them selves in love. Then one fateful day they made a mistake, as beautiful a mistake it may have been it was still a mistake and a child was produced. After the child was born the princess realized she could never be a fit mother so she gave the child to the prince and ran."

"Did she not love her baby?" The child asked as her eyes slowly drifted shut.

"No, she loved it she was just scared was all." She told her softly, "Now the prince was confused and wasn't sure exactly how to handle the child, but one day he met some one a woman and they fell in love and it was a different kind of love then he shared with the princess after all they now shared a child together. Years past and one day they married and the princess never did come back. Even though every time she looked in the child's eyes she saw the princess, they lived happily ever after and nothing could ever come between them."

As the short story finished she looked to see her small daughter sleeping peacefully. She smiled one last time and flicked the small light switch off as she headed out the door. Only to be greeted by her husband.

"How's our little girl," he asked placing his long arms around her tiny waist.

"She just went to sleep," she replied, letting her head fall into his shoulder.

"I thought she was against sleep," he told her as he kissed the back of her head.

"She was rational tonight and being extremely warn out probably worked in our favor," she told him in a whisper.

"She wasn't too much of a handful. Was she?"

"She never is," she told him softly and felt his hand remove its self.

"You look tired, go to bed," he told her.

"Okay, but don't leave me for very long."

"I won't," he yelled back to her, as he slowly snuck into the room his daughter slept in. He took a seat on the edge of her bed and leaned into her body giving her a small kiss on the forehead trying not to disturb the sleeping child. He watched as she stirred and then headed towards the door. "Love you forever and always," he told her his voice soft amongst the silence.

--

She watched as Riley pulled out of the drive way, she slowly waved to him and headed towards the door. It had been four years since they finally admitted there routine had actually constituted as dating and three since they had broken up. But, yet they spent most of there weekends together discussing the world and its happenings. Telling each other lost information about them selves, but even in those years she had a secret she hadn't told anyone, let alone this man she had been close with for four years.

She always wondered how she would tell them once, she had hoped to show them but, she had lost it. She had lost her daughter five years ago and no matter what she did she was never getting her back. Her only reminder was a small photograph she kept in the back of her sock drawer. A small photograph he wouldn't let her leave without. She could never bring herself to look at it. For it only caused her regret. She could only imagine what she looked like, how her sweet voice sounded and all she could remember were the only words she could ever tell her. The only words her voice could speak to her daughter. "I love you forever and always," were the words spoken and every night before her head hit the pillow she said them again.
