They teased him constantly about the way he stared. His eyes followed every move those graceful hands made, he knew what every raise of the eyebrow meant. He knew his favorite thing to eat in the morning was scrambled eggs with green peppers and mushrooms, he preferred wheat toast with apple butter, and a cup of tea with no milk or sugar.
He knew every Friday he would have a small slice of apple pie for dessert. He also knew when he thought no one was looking he would take one of those long slender fingers and swipe it across the plate making sure he got all the crumbs and then place his finger in his mouth. He would always close his eyes and savor it.
He knew that his eyes were not black like most people think, but a very dark and sensual brown. He knew that when he was bored he would often rub a strand of his raven hair between his fingers. He knew that he tried his hardest to sneak into Hogsmeade once a month to buy a supply of chocolate frogs.
He knew that he read muggle mystery novels and underlined his favorite lines. He knew that he could hold a grudge for years and he knew that he was brave and willing to do anything for the cause. He knew that this man hated him, and he knew that he loved him.
The meddlesome old coot's eyes always twinkled when he caught him staring. His eyes always searched for him. He knew what every facial twitch meant. He knew his favorite thing to eat in the morning was hot cereal, two strawberries and three pieces of bacon.
He knew he always tried to resist dessert like his captain had told him. He knew he snuck to the kitchens every other night and gave in to his craving for sweats. He knew he asked the house-elves for extra whipped cream and licked his lips after every bite.
He knew that his eyes were the most amazing shade of green he had ever seen. He knew they darkened to a deep hunter green when he was angry. He knew that when he was nervous he tried to flatten his unruly mop of hair. He knew that he always said yes when Dumbledore offered him a lemon drop.
He knew that he had stayed up all night to read Hogwarts: A History just to see the shocked look on Granger's face when he quoted it. He knew that he couldn't stay angry at someone for more than two months, and he knew that he blamed himself for Cedric, for Sirius, and for the recent death of Percy. He knew that the boy despised him, and he knew that he loved him.
