It was just a kiss, nothing more, but it opened my eyes at last. In that moment, I knew with crystal clear clarity that I loved him.

It didn't take a traumatic experience, it didn't require any interference from friends, we weren't stuck in a turbolift, it wasn't a near-death admittance. There were no monkeys or ancient legends, there were no other lovers or jealousies, there were no arguments, there were no alien influences. There was just acceptance by me, as I realised what I'd always known.

I love him, and he loves me.

The realisation doesn't worry me or frighten me as I once thought it would. Instead, all I feel is happiness and acceptance, coupled with the sheer rightness of our love for one another, permeating my soul.

The Vulcans' have a saying... 'In accepting the inevitable, one finds peace.'

I've found my peace at last.
