A/N: This is an icky story that’s slashy but despite how it appears to be going there is no sex in it. Don’t like it, there’s a back button you can feel free to click at any time.

Daniel looked so alive caught up in the throws of discovery. He was showing Jack and his team the cartouche he had discovered during his year here on Abydos. He and Carter were bouncing ideas off each other so quickly that Jack couldn’t follow them.

He decided to watch Daniel speak and listen to Carter. Daniel was so passionate about everything; Jack briefly wondered what he’d be like in bed. He dismissed the thought quickly enough. He shouldn’t be thinking that no matter how attractive Daniel was. And he was attractive! His lips were full and simply kissable, his eyelashes almost feminine in their length, his body fairly lean but with a good amount of muscle. And that hair! It looked so smooth his hands ached to run through it. But, most stunning of all, were his eyes. Daniel’s were a beautiful sky blue and so expressive. His whole face was so expressive, alight with intelligence and a passion for discovery. Jack wondered what it would be like to see ecstasy. He felt himself grow hard and ended the train of thought with a promise to find a way to get Daniel into his bed, married or not.

The colonel had zoned out through most of the conversation but his team assumed he had no idea what the scientists were talking about, which was true. He threw in some comments and questions where he thought appropriate but basically only wanted to finish the mission; which, oddly enough, included bringing Daniel back home.

There was no way General Hammond was going to let Jackson on the team. He had no combat experience and had already stated his disapproval of Dr. Jackson being placed on the team to go to Abydos. He also wasn’t pleased to find that he’d really been living with the people of Abydos without... to put it simply... without asking.

Jack found the man in question staring at the Stargate looking lost and alone. Daniel didn’t have any place to go here on Earth. His family was on Abydos but he’d given them up to come and look for his wife and it didn’t look like he’d be able to do that.

“Hi, Daniel.” Jack announced his presence to Daniel who jumped in surprised and then turned to face him.

“Oh! Hi Jack, what are you doing here?”

“Wondering if you’d like to come over to my place. You can stay there until you find a place to live.” ‘Or forever. I don’t mind. Rent? Oh, don’t worry about that, some sex here or there will keep you covered.’ Jack added in his head.

Daniel fidgeted and looked around the room. Jack couldn’t help but think how cute he looked and felt himself grow hard again. “I wouldn’t want to impose. I could just stay at the base...”

“Nonsense.” Jack interrupted. “You need a good night’s sleep in a real bed. I’ve got a nice guest bedroom that you’re welcome to.” ‘Or you could just sleep in mine. That’d be nice.’ The smile that Daniel gave him hesitantly sent a heat straight to Jack’s groin.

“If you’re sure...”

‘For being a linguist he sure does trail off a lot.’ “Definitely.” Jack affirmed, signaling Daniel to follow him.

Jack and Daniel walked to the truck, Jack’s truck, and drove to Jack’s house, describing what the last year had been like for them.

When they arrived, Jack ordered pizza, pulled out two beers from the fridge and dropped onto the couch beside Daniel who hadn’t spoken for a good two minutes.

“Penny for your thoughts?” Jack said, disturbing the silence.

Daniel hesitated, fighting some inner demon and then his shoulder’s sagged in defeat. “There is no way General Hammond is going to let me onto the team to go find Shau’re!”

“Well, you don’t have combat experience. Sending you to a hostile planet would be dangerous to you and to the people around you. He didn’t even like that West sent a civilian on the first mission. And I can’t imagine he was pleased to find that you’d stayed behind on Abydos. And...”

“That’s enough.” Daniel stopped him, cringing. “There has to be some way I can go!”

“Look, Daniel, I’m sorry but there just...”

“No! There has to be some way, I have to find my wife! I can’t just abandon her.”

Jack paused. He could do it now. He had had an aching hard-on just from sitting so close to Daniel for so long. He could find a way and in exchange... “I could convince him for you.”

“Really? There’s nothing I could do in return...”

“Sure there is!” Jack cut him off. Then, to prove his point, he turned, caught the side of Daniel’s face and pressed his lips against the younger man’s.

Daniel froze in shock and abruptly pulled away. “Jack! What are you doing?”

“Look, you said yourself General Hammond would never let you on the team. If I gave him my recommendation and chose you to go on my team, he’d have to let you.”

“Forget it. It’d be betraying Shau’re.”

“Leaving her would be betraying her. You know this is the only way. It’s just a physical thing. No strings attached...” The doorbell ringing interrupted them and Jack jumped up to get it. “You think about it. How much is your wife worth to you?” Jack left the room for a few minutes, returning with the pizza.

The men sat in silence for a while, Daniel picking at his pizza. “I could get you court martialled for this.”

“Maybe, but then you’d have no way onto the team.”

This statement seemed to subdue Daniel again. He sat quietly for a few minutes before coming to a decision. “When we rescue Shau’re and Skaara, I’m going back to Abydos and I’ll never see you again. I’ll tell her what I did to get to her and I’ll stay on Abydos whether she forgives me or not.”

Satisfied that he’d just agreed, Jack stood. “Well, follow me.” Jack led the way to his bedroom and closed the door behind Daniel. He led the younger man to the bed and guided him onto his back. Jack straddled his waist and leaned over to capture the archaeologist’s lips. Daniel was pliant and allowed Jack’s tongue to enter his mouth.

After a minute, Jack pulled back and looked at Daniel’s face. His eyes were screwed shut and a single tear had escaped. This wasn’t what he wanted. He’d wanted to see him willing. Jack didn’t understand what made this such a big deal, it was just sex. He’d done it many times with military men who followed the don’t ask, don’t tell rule. None of them had been brought to tears. Jack wiped the tear away with his thumb and spooned behind Daniel whispering, “I’m sorry.” He decided he didn’t need anything in return for helping Daniel tomorrow.
