Chapter 1: Writing ideas and Drawing pictures
In my millennia of existence I have seen and experienced many things, most things for this reason as of no surprise to me, but as during my period of imprisonment I had no real human contact one could say I have a great lack of people skills and emotions.
Emotions, must I have such treacherous things. I understand compassion, I have great compassion for my light and worry for I worry about the boy, but what is the use of the emotion, love? I have no one to love in any way that is romantic. But somehow my heart, for that is where I am told emotions are kept, has betrayed another emotion. I am to feel care and compassion for my lighter side. I am his protector after all, but if this is my duty then why do I feel more for my light. This treacherous thing the heart is; I am not to have these emotions! But if I didn’t have them then I would most certainly not be sitting here writing this down. Rather I would be downstairs with my Aibou watching the television or helping him with his history homework. I am not even capable of doing that. Curse my mind for being such a slippery thing and driving my attention to factors that I should not consider. Curse my mind for when I hover over my Aibou’s shoulder reading his mathematical equations and learning what I never knew in my previous life, my mind slip to his sent of how beautiful he looks when he is deep in thought over what he is to write next. In fact the very reason I am here writing this is because my little light suggested I try writing for myself. It is a way to express oneself without the world knowing it. “Writing your ideas down is a great way to express yourself, and it gives you a different perspective on your problems” he smiled up at me “Then if you don’t want anyone else to read what you wrote you can always destroy the proof!” he laughed lightly. “But I think that no one should be ashamed over what they think or feel! Everyone is entitled to their own believes so no one should be able to tear down people’s believes. Just as long as people don’t hurt each other or do anything dangerous.”
But what I am writing could put our relationship in danger, why must you condemn me to emotions Ra?
Yami threw down his pen, his hand was stating to cramp up after writing for over an hour nonstop. Actually at first he had been drawing, this too was a suggestion by his light. His drawing consisted of his favorite subject, his Aibou; though he did not believe his drawings did justice to his light.
“Yami, come down!” Yuugi’s voice called to the former Pharaoh. “We’re going to lunch!”
“I’m coming, Aibou” Yami said quickly picking up his sketch book and the sheets of paper he had been writing on. Quickly he hid the paper items under a jammed drawer in his dresser that he had accidentally super glued shut when he was fixing it. No one should ever be able to open it or see what is inside unless they pulled the drawer above it out in its entirety.
Yami quickly rushed over to his closet and pulled out a silk black shirt just as his light knocked on his door. “It’s open.” Yami said slipping the shirt on and bending over to recover the socks he had kicked under his desk while drawing. “Are you ready to go?” Yuugi asked poking his head inside catching a glimpse of his Yami bending over. A pink tinge covered Yuugi’s pale cheeks as he quickly looked away. “Almost, Aibou.” Yami said standing up. “Are you alright Aibou?” Yami asked noticing his light’s flustered complexion.
“H-hai!” Yuugi almost choked. “You were drawing with charcoal weren’t you.” He said trying to dodge any hard questions. That wasn’t a good way to change the subject though. Yuugi stopped breathing as he saw his Yami wasn’t wearing an under shirt which normally meant that indeed he had been using charcoal. Yuugi had suggested that he didn’t wear a shirt when sketching for he always managed to somehow stain his clothes with paint or some other substance that was very difficult to remove from fabric.
Quick Yuugi change the SUBJECT! His head screamed at him. Stop blushing and change the subject! “Yami, when am I going to be able to see these drawings of yours?” Yuugi asked his dark sighing slightly at his magnificent recovery. “Well,” Yami considered it. Showing his light what he had drawn thus far was sure to bring unwanted questions that would lead to awkwardness that was unnecessary between Yami and Hikari. “Soon.” Yami said simply. “Soon? But when is soon?” Yuugi asked looking as cute as he possibly could. “I want to see them!” he pleaded. “You will, Aibou, Soon” Yami smiled as he led Yuugi out of his room grabbing a small sketch pad on his way out and a few pencils.
“Where exactly are we going, Aibou?” Yami asked as he stood in the bathroom rolling up his sleeves with Yuugi’s help so that he could wash his hands. A small blush lingered on both their faces due to their close proximities. ‘What’s wrong with me? We’ve been closer then this before! We’ve even hugged before!” Yuugi told himself ‘Why am I over reacting now?’
“Aibou, who exactly are we meeting for lunch?” Yami asked tucking a pencil behind his ear as they walked out the door. “Ryou and Bakura.” Yuugi mumbled. “Yami, please be nice to Bakura! He’s been trying really hard to change!” Yuugi pleaded his large violet eyes growing slightly giving him, in Yami’s words, “a look that could melt any heart”
“I will not bother with him as long as he doesn’t bother you or me.” Yami frowned highly doubting this would happen. “Thank you!” his light smiled giving him a warm hug causing the former pharaoh to blush crimson.
The two walked into a small restaurant with large windows. “They should be somewhere around here.” Yuugi mused trying to find his friend. “Yuugi!” a voice with a British accent called out as a hand was waived up in the air to catch said teen’s attention. The owner of the hand had long slightly unruly white hair and exited chocolate brown eyes. “Hi Ryou!” Yuugi said as he stood next to their table. “Where is Bakura?” he asked looking around for his friend’s yami. “In the loo, he has been in there a while actually…” Ryou seemed worried. “I’ll go find him!” Yuugi smiled rushing off in the direction of the restrooms.
Yami seemed a little hesitant at letting his light go find Bakura and was about to stop him when he noticed Ryou’s hand was on his shoulder. “He won’t hurt Yuugi.” He smiled. “I promise Bakura has changed.” He said earnestly. Yami sighed and stared at the door. “If they don’t come back within two minutes I’m going to go get them.” Yami said glairing at the restroom door. Ryou chuckled. “You really do like Yuugi don’t you.” The white haired teen smiled. “He is my light I am entrusted to protect him.” Yami said curtly. “Not like that, I mean you like him more then just your Hikari. Or at least you hope he will become more then just your Hikari.” Ryou smiled an all knowing air about him. Yami gave him a death glare that seemed not to phase the light at all. “I know what you feel.” Ryou said kingly. “It’s the same why I feel for Bakura.” Ryou smiled. “I’m right aren’t I? You are in love with your light.”
Yami stared at Ryou, was it that noticeable? What is that simple? Did Yuugi already know and just not said anything? No his light did not know, he would be able to sense if his light knew something like that.
“I won’t tell Yuugi, if that is what is worrying you.” Ryou said honesty in his pale face and voice. “Thank you, I don’t want him to know.” Yami said sadness in his voice. “I would scare him away, and that is something I can’t do. I can’t lose my light.” Ryou nodded.
Yami, you can come out of the loo know. Ryou said to his dark through their mind link.
Did the pharaoh tell you what you wanted to know?
Yes, I was right he smiled at himself. He is in love with his light
“Aibou, what took you so long?” Yami asked as he stood to pull out the chair for his light to sit in. “Bakura’s door jammed and he couldn’t get out of the stall.” Yuugi smiled. “Though after he hit it a few times it burst open!”
You locked yourself in a stall?
What the hell was I supposed to be having problems with? You didn’t give me much to work with in a loo. At least I gave you time to talk to the pharaoh.
Ryou sweat dropped. “Well I’m glad you were able to help my Yami out of that stall!” Ryou smiled at his tri-colored haired friend. “I didn’t do anything! He did it on his own, I just watched.”
“Are you ready to order?” A young lady with short blue green hair asked a notepad in her left hand and a black pen poised to write. “A grilled chicken salad, please and an orange soda.” Yuugi smiled at the waitress. “Um, same for me.” Ryou smiled. “I’d like a soup of the day.” Yami said his hand holding onto his sketch pad protectively. “I’ll have a stake as raw as you can bring it to me.” Bakura smiled a look that made him look very much like a vampire. “He’s kidding miss,” Ryou laughed lightly to prove it was a joke. She laughed a nervousness could be heard in her voice “He’d like his stake medium.” Bakura snorted throwing the waitress a funny look that made her rush away as fast as she could and still be polite.
Lunch went by with few other interventions, partially because their waitress seemed terrified of Bakura and didn’t seem to want to come back as often to check on them as she did with her other tables. After paying their bill and leaving a reasonable tip
“I’m glad she didn’t scream when she saw Bakura’s imitation of a shark in a feeding frenzy.” Yami said as they got up. “That would have caused quite and uproar. “That’s why I left such a large tip. Most waitresses would have sent some one else with the check and never returned to see how we were. She was nice.” Ryou smiled.
“Look Yami! A baby bird!” Yuugi gasped running over to examine the small creature that lay crying on the floor next to a tree. “Poor little guy, he looks hurt.” Yuugi cooed gingery picking up the frail creature. “I wonder where he fell from.” Yuugi turned his eyes skyward. “There’s the nest but I can’t reach!” Yuugi protested. “I hate being short!”
Yuugi looked around and noticed Yami was watching him with great interest. “You should get it back into its nest so that it’s mother won’t abandon it, Aibou.” Yami said.
“Right,” Yuugi nodded and looked up at how high the nest was.
“Bakura give me a boost!” Yuugi ordered nudging the tomb robber with his elbow. “Why should I?” he growled. “Do it Bakura! You’re the tallest out of all of us.” Ryou frowned. “If you don’t then I won’t give you that treat I promised you this morning.” Ryou taunted a smirk on his lips. “Fine…” Bakura sighed defeated. “Come here squirt.”
After much complaining on Bakura’s part for having to hold Yuugi on his shoulders to save a “dumb ass bird” they were able to return the small creature to its home. “Hay, as a thank you I’ll by you an ice cream!” Yuugi said looking down at the one who was still carrying him due to his inability to put the teen down without dropping him.
“Atemu, I’m surprised you haven’t tried to decapitate my Yami or something for being that close to your light.” Ryou smiled his chocolate brown eyes dancing slightly with amusement. “I will send his strait to the shadow realm if he tries to hurt my Aibou in any way, and my Aibou asked me to give the Tomb Robber a chance.” Yami frowned sitting down and opening his sketching notebook.
“What exactly are you drawing, if you don’t mind my asking” Ryou asked getting a glimpse of one of the sketches as his friend turned the page. “Noting,” he said quickly though sighed. “Could I as your opinion on something Ryou?” Ryou nodded “Of course, what is it?”
Yami took a deep breath and turned to a particular page. “I want your opining, I know that you are a trustworthy and sincere person.” Yami offered him the sketch pad. Ryou’s eyes grew slightly in size and they relaxed showing a smiled. “This is wonderful; you’re really quite good at this.” Ryou smiled at a drawing of Yuugi with a fork in his mouth. “Did you draw this recently?” Yami nodded. “Does Yuugi know that you can draw, has he seen these?” Ryou asked turning the page to see another sketch of the spiky haired teen sleeping. Ryou looked up Yami’s eyes were cast downward in shame. “no, I worry that if he saw these he would grow to fear me, It’s like I’m being obsessive.”
Ryou chuckled lightly. “You are most certainly not being obsessive. You love him don’t you?” his answer was a nod. “Then tell him, show him.” Ryou said kindly. “I’m sure that if anything he will most certainly not be afraid of you are think you are crazy.” Ryou offered the sketching notebook back to its owner. “Tell him soon.” Ryou smiled.
“Bakura! I’m getting tiered! Can we go home?” Ryou asked calling across to the other two who were walking back with four ice creams. “You want to go home?” Bakura asked. “Yes, Know return the Hikari to his owner and let’s go home.” He yawned.
I’m not really tiered just play along!
So I will get my reward for helping you right? Bakura asked hopefully as he stood eye lever with the others and handed his light a mint chocolate chip ice cream.
Yes Ryou smiled.
“Pharaoh, take you’re light, he’s really fuking heavy for someone so puny” Bakura laughed as Yuugi shot him a nasty look. “I’m not puny!”
