Chapter 4: Trimming the tree
Kagome and Inuyasha continues hanging the garlands in the living room. The lessons haven't ended yet!
"Ok, this side of the room is done." Kagome announces, now looking at what her and Inuyasha have done to the right side of the living room.
"Now we have to finish the rest of the house." Souta says to Kagome.
"Why we don't all take a room in the house and that way the decorating can be done a lot quicker." Mrs. Higurashi suggests.
"That's an excellent idea mom." Kagome agrees with her. "Me and Inuyasha will finish the living room, Souta, you take the kitchen and mom, you can do my room."
Souta nods and grabs some decorations, now running into the kitchen. Mrs. Higurashi grabs a box and heads upstairs to Kagome's room.
"OK, we have to finish this room and then we can begin on the tree." Kagome says to Inuyasha.
"How long are these things going to stay up?" Inuyasha inquires to Kagome.
"Oh until Christmas is over." Kagome answers him. "Then everything comes down."
"Why put this stuff up, if all you're going to do is take it down?" Inuyasha inquires to Kagome.
"Well Inuyasha, that's the tradition." Kagome begins. " You put the decorations up for the season and once the season is over, you take the decorations down. You put them up in honor of the season."
"Seems pointless to me." Inuyasha comments.
"Well, it does, but it's actually not." Kagome replies. "The whole point is basically, having fun while decorating."
Inuyasha's ears lay down flat, with him not having a comment to Kagome's statement.
"So how much more of this decoration do we have to put up?" Inuyasha inquires.
"Well, the living room is half done and once we get it all the way done, then we can begin on the tree." Kagome answers him. "Now let's get to the other side of the room."
Inuyasha doesn't comment, but instead, helps Kagome with the other side of the living room.
Kagome's room
Mrs. Higurashi has begun decorating in Kagome's room and since Kagome's room isn't that big, not much decoration will be needed.
"I know how Kagome loves the red garland over the closet door." Mrs. Higurashi smiles, as she hangs the garland over the door. "I'll line her desk with this red garland as well."
Kitchen
Souta has hung garland over the kitchen window and the doorway leading to the basement and is now decorating the windows.
"I don't understand why we have to hang this stuff, only for it to come down, 30 days later." Souta silently fusses to himself. "I guess it's the tradition that counts."
Living room
Inuyasha and Kagome have finished the living room and are now observing what they have done.
"Ok, everything looks good." Kagome comments, observing what they have done. "Absolutely wonderful."
"Do you think we added too much of that green?" Inuyasha comments.
"No, I think we added just enough." Kagome answers him with a smile. "The Christmas colors are mainly green and red."
Inuyasha doesn't argue.
Souta comes out of the kitchen, and into the living room, holding some red garland.
"I need some help in the kitchen." Souta says, looking between Inuyasha and Kagome.
Kagome smiles and turns to Inuyasha.
"You go on and help him, while I go upstairs and check on up my mom." Kagome says to Inuyasha.
Inuyasha nods and follows Souta into the kitchen, while Kagome heads upstairs to go check on her mother. After reaching the top of the stair case, Kagome goes straight to her room to see if her mom needs any help, but instead sees her gathering up what decorations she didn't use in the room, and notices how fully decorated the room is.
"Well, I'm all done in here." Mrs. Higurashi says, not noticing Kagome in the doorway. Turning to leave the room, Mrs. Higurashi, then, notices Kagome and jumps a bit.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you mom." Kagome apologizes. "I was coming to see if you needed any help in here, but I guess not. The room looks great."
Mrs. Higurashi smiles and catches her breath.
"No, dear, I'm done in here and thank you." Mrs. Higurashi says to Kagome. "Is the living room completed?"
"Oh yeah, it is." Kagome answers her. "Me and Inuyasha finished it a few minutes ago."
"Ok, how is Souta doing in the kitchen?" Mrs. Higurashi, Inquires.
"Not sure, but I sent Inuyasha in there to help him so he should be finished, if not half way." Kagome answers her mother.
"Well, let's get a head start on the tree while they do that." Mrs. Higurashi comments, now walking past Kagome and heading down the stairs. Kagome nods and follows her mother down the stairs.
Kitchen
Inuyasha and Souta are just about finished with the decorating of the kitchen. Souta is standing on Inuyasha's shoulders and hooking hanging ornaments on the ceiling.
"Just one more." Souta says, hooking on of the Christmas tree hanging ornaments from the ceiling.
"For a little kid, you sure do weigh a ton." Inuyasha comments, trying to keep Souta balanced on his shoulders. "How much do you weigh anyway?"
"Hey! I weigh 107 pounds." Souta replies, answering Inuyasha. "That's good for someone my age."
"Like that's any better." Inuyasha mumbles to himself.
"Ok, that was the last one." Souta announces to Inuyasha. Inuyasha lowers his shoulders, lowering Souta to the ground. "Thanks a lot Inuyasha, for your help."
"No problem Kid." Inuyasha replies as he begins rubbing his shoulders. "Word of advice Kid, the next time we have to do this, try not to weigh so much."
Souta makes a disgusted face at Inuyasha as Inuyasha continues rubbing his shoulders.
"I resent that!" Souta says in an upset tone. "I am not that heavy!"
"Well, you're not that heavy, but you can stand to loose a few." Inuyasha comments to Souta.
Souta's expression lightens up, but not too much.
"Let's go see if your sister and your mom has started on the tree yet." Inuyasha says to Souta, not noticing his look of disapproval.
Inuyasha leaves the kitchen, as Souta follows him and they both head out to the living room.
Upon entering the living room, Inuyasha and Souta both see that Kagome and Mrs. Higurashi have begun working on the tree.
"Hey, do you guys need any help?" Souta inquires to Kagome.
"Sure, we can use all the hands we can get." Kagome replies to him.
Souta and Inuyasha gather decorations for the tree and heads over to the tree to help them out.
