There is a certain darkness in death. Sango knows this because she's died once before, dead and buried in her brother's death-weighted arms.

Death is not something that's meant to be survived, and so no one ever truly has. With every breath stolen from the grave, Sango feels the weight of her tombstone on her chest and her brother's flaccid arms choking her, searing where skin meets skin.

Somewhere on the horizon she meets Kikyou who feels the fire of that night burning through her veins where lifeblood should be, the chain of the Shikon no Tama slicing at her neck, the claws of her lover dug deep into her chest.

"So you've died before too," she says in the waning light of day.

The sun sets, and in the darkness they are together.
