Goka's Return
Chapter 15: Rekindle the Flame
Goka walked out of the balcony she had been on with Mirai. She wasn't quite sure yet what she wanted to say to Trunks so she kept walking when she reached the crowded room that the party guests were gathered in. She walked until she came to the stairs that lead to the bedrooms and climbed until she reached the top of them.
Once there she leaned up against the wall and slid until she was sitting down on the floor. She curled her knees up into her body and placed her head in her hands.
'What am I going to do? What will I say to him? Mirai seemed pretty confident that Trunks would like talking to me, but I don't know. We haven't really spoken since...' Goka's mind hesitated to bring up the last time she had actually spoken with Trunks. She had tried her best to move on from that moment...the moment she had seen all the pain she had caused him.
Goka sighed, 'How could he ever possibly want me back after all that?' She thought in despair.
"So what are you doing up here all by yourself?" Goka's eyes flew wide as she heard the question that was no doubt directed at her.
Goka turned to look where the voice had come from only to be surprised to see Vegeta in a tux.
"Vegeta-san, what are you doing here?" She questioned in confusion.
"I asked you first." He answered as he stood and leaned across from her on the wall with his arms crossed.
Goka looked down, "I just needed to get away and think for a minute." She responded.
Vegeta stayed silent for a minute as he waited to see if she would say more. She never said anything so he decided to light the fire, "Running away again I see."
Goka's eyes went wide, "Wha...what are you talking about? I'm not running!" Goka defended.
Vegeta 'hmphed', "Well then you are making a hasty and expedient retreat, whatever the hell you decide to call it, it's still running."
Goka scowled and looked away. 'He doesn't know what he's talking about.'
"And what would you know about what I'm doing?" Goka finally asked with a level voice.
"I know that you are acting just like your father brat. You're running away just like him." Vegeta answered. He didn't care whether it was true or not, but he knew that this would get a rise out of her one way or the other.
Vegeta couldn't see her face at first from where she had her head lowered then suddenly she jumped up from the ground and pointed directly at Vegeta, "That's not true! And don't you ever compare me to him again!" She stated with anger flushing her face.
Vegeta smirked, "Why? Because you know it's true? Like they say...like father..." Vegeta answered as he tried to draw her out further.
Goka's face contorted with anger, but decided to ignore the last statement and answer to only the first, "No! Because my father runs away for no apparent reason, I'm just trying to get my thoughts sorted out!" She answered.
"So...you are still both acting like cowards. Now tell me the reason you are out her alone. The real reason this time brat." Vegeta answered as he stood unintimidated by her actions.
'Cowards!' Goka's mind screamed, she wanted to attack the smirking man before her and show him just how "cowardly" she was. But as her mind came back to the question he had asked her and the real reason she was out here she just didn't have it in her.
She slumped back against the wall and crossed her arms. She looked back at the man before and she knew he had seen right through her from the start, "Ok...maybe you're right...part of me is scared of something." She finally admitted with defeat.
'Finally, we're getting somewhere.' Vegeta said in his mind. "And..." He prompted.
"I'm scared he still hates me." Goka answered as she stared at the floor.
"My brat?" Vegeta asked for confirmation.
Goka nodded, "Mirai and I broke up, he told me I should talk to Trunks. I don't know why...it's not like we still have a chance. Not after all I've done."
Vegeta was silent for a moment as he took all this in. "And what have you done exactly?" Vegeta asked.
Goka looked up at him, 'Could he really not know?' She thought to herself, "I hurt him...when I left. I can't hurt him anymore." Goka answered.
"Then don't." Vegeta answered simply.
Goka looked at him like he was crazy, "Then don't! What are you talking about "then don't?" How can you make it sound so simple?"
"Because it is simple. You don't want to hurt him...then don't. If there is any small thing I have learned about love from the people of this planet, it's that if you can learn to love, you can learn to forgive. The woman forgave me didn't she? Your mother forgives Kakarot each time he disappears doesn't she?"
Goka sat there dumbfounded. Vegeta was the last person in the world that she expected to ever preach of love and forgiveness. 'What is the world coming to?' Goka asked herself in her mind.
Vegeta seemed to notice this as he smirked larger, "Darn alcohol...it's starting to effect me." Vegeta answered simply with a little humor.
Goka continued to sit there dumbfounded for a few more moments until her mouth turned up a little into a smile...slowly but surely she started to laugh. 'Did Vegeta just make a joke.' She thought to herself. 'He must have really had to much to drink.'
Vegeta watched the girl as she giggled at his comment, 'Why am I doing this? Why am I trying to help her? Why do I care?' But as he continued to watch her giggle he couldn't help but let out a small chuckle himself, 'Darn Kakarot...he's starting to effect me as well.'
A few more moments they sat in the hall and Goka continued to giggle while Vegeta had stopped chuckling and had gone back to his usual smirk, "So what are you going to do brat?" Vegeta finally asked as her giggles started to die down.
Goka was silent for a moment as she thought. Then she stood up slowly and gave him her answer. "I'm going to talk to Trunks."
She turned to make her way back down the steps and find Trunks, but before leaving she turned to Vegeta and smiled, "Thank you." She said simply then turned back to the steps and started to climb back down them.
It didn't take long for Goka to fins Trunks in the crowded room. She walked over to him just as he was saying goodbye to one of the guests who had to leave early.
After the guest had gone Goka walked over to him, "Hey." She said.
Trunks turned around almost surprised, "Goka? What are you doing here?" He asked. 'Mirai must have asked her...' He thought as he started to look around the room for the location of his "twin".
"I came with Mirai, but I'm not sure where he is now." Goka answered as she saw him looking around.
"You mean he left you alone." Trunks asked.
"Oh...well...I mean there was a reason for it." Goka began to stammer as she couldn't think how to broach the subject.
Trunks only raised an eyebrow as she started to stammer, "I don't think I quite understand what you mean."
"We broke up." She finally answered simply deciding that there was no other way she knew to say it.
"Oh...I'm sorry." Trunks answered, 'No I'm not...' He added as a personal afterthought.
Goka only smiled, "Yeah...things just didn't work out."
"Why not?" Trunks asked as he began to see what Mirai must have done.
"Because...I...I didn't love him." Goka answered. "Because I have feelings for someone else."
Trunks stood unbelieving for a moment, 'Could she possibly be saying...' He thought to himself as he hoped for her to continue.
"Because I still love you. I always will." Goka said as she smiled and looked at him.
Trunks couldn't believe what he was hearing, he almost fell out in the floor as he stood there silently.
Goka began to get worried as Trunks continued to be silent.
Trunks saw her plight and shook himself out of his reverie, "I...umm...well I didn't expect that." Trunks said as he blushed and scratched his head in confusion.
Goka lowered her eyes to the floor in disappointment. 'So he doesn't feel the same...' She thought to herself, before she heard it.
He whispered it so softly that if she had not had the enhanced hearing of a Saiyan she would have never heard it. "I love you too."
She still couldn't believe she had heard it and thought her mind must have been playing tricks on her. "Trunks did you just say..." She asked as she looked at him with hope in her eyes.
"I said...I love you too." He spoke louder this time so there was no mistake.
Goka stood there motionless for a second. She didn't move, she didn't speak. Then suddenly as if a damn had broken inside her she started to cry and she launched herself forward and threw her arms around his neck before he could disappear.
Trunks with surprise and confusion gasped as she wrapped her arms around him. It took him a moment for it to register but finally, he wrapped his arms around her as well and held her tightly.
"I'm so sorry Trunks. I promise I'll never run away and I'll never hurt you again." She said.
"I told you before I had already forgiven you." Trunks whispered with a smile.
"Thank you." She answered simply.
The couple didn't say anything else. They didn't have to. At that moment they had everything they wanted and nothing else could touch them. Nothing else ever would.
"There are some things that never change.
Love will be coming back here again.
Love never dies.
Love never feigns.
Love never ever fades away.
This love won't be faded away.
You can't fade away this love.
Which means love is forever."
-END OF STORY-
Edit June 10, 2010: Looking back on this like 4 or 5 years later since I finished writing this story I honestly can't remember for sure if I had intended on writing a sequel to this. I do know that I just read it all over again recently and I feel like it needs a sequel to tie up some of the many loose ends I left hanging. The only problem I have is that I don't want to begin a new project that I may never see through to the end. :( Also, I'm not even sure if people still read this story anymore since DBZ is no longer all that popular and this story is several years old. I'm not certain what I will do. I have some ideas for a sequel in my head anyway so I may try. If you have any thoughts on this please either leave a review or email me. That would help a lot. Thanks. :)
