"Thunder shock, Pikachu!" I screamed out loud
My words were barely heard over the roaring croud
The yellow rodent at my feet was sparking with electricity
And to my dismay (This wasn't my day), that ugly Wartortle's eyes twinkled with ingenuity

As lightning crackled 'cross the ground,
My opponent's Poke'mon was spinning around
The sparks just bounced right off of it like it's some kind of freak!
"How did you do that?" I shouted. "Did you cheat?
That isn't right! That's incorrect! Against 'lectricity, water is weak!"

"This is a fact you cannot deny,
Water conducts electricity, so what is your reply?"
My opponent raised his brows at me,
Grinning and chuckling like I said something funny

"Don't you know? That's rapid spin!" is what he announced.
"Now use takle attack!" Boy could that turtle pounce!
The Poke'mon wrestled on the floor;
Pikachu fought while Wortortle began to snore!

"Stop it, stop it I say!
I came here to battle you, not to play!"
My opponent replied, "But we are battling, see?
You just aren't as good as me!"

"I'll show you what I can do!
I'm pretty good! I'll show you a thing or two!
Come on, my friend! Give it all you've got!
It may be tough, but I know you've got a lot!"

So Pikachu struggled and struggled some more
But still he could not get off of the floor,
Because Wartortle, you see, had sat upon the mouse
Not to be rude, but it was bigger than a house!

This wouldn't do, my opponent was too strong
"You can't beat me!" he cried. "I've been better all along!"
With a defiant sigh, I looked towards my Poke'mon friend
His ebony eyes said he was at his end

So I bobbed my head like a mindless robot
I guess I wasn't ready for this battle that I fought
"It's okay, you did fine!
It just takes practice, Oh pal of mine!"

I looked up with a half-hearted smile;
It was my buddy standing in the aisle
I realized he still believed in me,
No matter what he stood by me faithfully

So I gathered my things and shook my opponent's hand
And I vowed to return to reclaim my pride as I trudged across the sand
My buddy and I left with our backs to the past
My Pikachu was still tucked in my grasp

"You really think I did okay?
I didn't mess up here, right now, today?"
My buddy gave the answers I sought;
"You just have to train some more. He was more experienced and you're not. (Yet)"

"Being a Trainer doesn't mean winning all the time,
It's about walking the roads, it's another mountain to climb!
Can't you see? It's a learning experience!
It's about growing and learning until you're doing your very best!"

So as we walked I considered his words
It all made sense and my problem was cured
The journey stuff wasn't quite as easy as I thought
But I still think I like it a lot...
