The Last Dance

Disclaimer: I don't own Jimmy Neutron, sorry to disappoint you. It would be awesome to own the show though!

Summary: One-shot. The graduation dance is here, and Cindy thinks she'll never be able to tell Jimmy how she feels before they move on.

The room was dim, other than the lights from the DJ's music booth. This would be the last time she would set foot into this gym, and maybe the last time she'd ever see any of these people again. She saw him mingling on the other side of the gym with some of the guys and girls they had met over the years.

It hurt her heart that she may never see Jimmy again. She wanted to tell him how she felt a long time ago, but it was just too hard to say. Now that graduation was here, she figured she would never get the courage to tell him before they went their separate ways. That was when she noticed the doors behind her. She made her way out to the park behind the highschool and sat on the bench.

Back inside the gym, Jimmy was looking for Cindy, since they were starting to play more slow songs, and he wanted to get at least one dance in with her.

"Hey Libby, have you seen Cindy? I can't find her anywhere."

"Now that you mention it, I thought I saw her go outside," she answered, while busting out a few moves.

"Thanks! Oh, and you might wanna go get Sheen before he hurts himself.. he's trying to do the leg-behind-the-head thing while dancing." Libby rolled her eyes and ran out there and pulled him off the dance floor.

The temperature had dropped a couple degrees, so he grabbed his jacket and went outside. Although it was dark, the moonlight helped him see. He saw Cindy sitting near the pond on a bench, her head in her hands. He didn't want to frighten her, so he walked up to her quietly.

"Cindy," he said, with almost a whisper. She turned up to look at him, her emerald eyes full of sadness, but a small smile played on her lips. "Are you alright?" He took a seat next to the blonde, and cupped her cheek in his hand. A stray tear trickled down her cheek, and he wiped it away with his thumb.

"Actually, no, I'm not. After the graduation ceremony this morning, it finally hit me that I'll never see anyone inside of that gym again. Oh, and you.." She looked down at the ground, but he lifted her head up.

"Don't say that Cin, I'll always be here. No matter what happens." He took her in a warm embrace, and she cried softly on his shoulder. Feeling her shiver, he took his jacket and placed it upon her bare shoulders. She knew that the strapless dress she bought wasn't right for the weather, but she loved the dress anyway.

"Thanks," she answered, clinging the jacket closer to her. She could smell the scent of his sweet cologne that lingered on his coat. "Wait, now you'll be cold. Here take it back," she said, slipping it off her shoulders.

"No Cind," he interrupted, holding up a hand, "you wear it, I'll be fine. Your shoulders are bare, mine aren't." He smiled at her, his eyes full of admiration for the blonde. "So, did you want to head inside?"

She was hesitant at first, but she decided to come, just to see her friends again. Jimmy held his hand out to help her up, and she willingly took it. His hand was warm compared to hers. He noticed the difference in temperature, so he squeezed her hand gently to help warm it up. Her heart skipped a beat, but her expression didn't show it. She let go of his hand, only to see his face lose its glow.

As they re-entered the decorated gym, the current fast-paced song was fading out, signaling the end of the song. A slow song was beginning to play whilst Cindy found a spot on the bleachers to sit down, while Jimmy went to talk to Carl for a while.

"Hey Carl, how's the dance treating you?" the male genius asked his best friend while grabbing a cup of punch. Carl's eyes started to get moist.

"The dance is okay," he said between sniffles, "but this is the last time we'll see any of these people again! It's too horrible!" Jimmy patted his best friend's back to comfort him. He smiled up at Jimmy, then waved goodbye to him while he went to talk to a girl he had met who loved llamas as much as he did.

Jimmy finally noticed the slow song playing, and saw Cindy out of the corner of his eye swaying along. He saw Nick walk up to her and ask her to dance, but he saw her mouth to him, "No thanks.. loser.." Nick's expression turned dark as he turned away in disgust. Jimmy giggled to himself, but then hit his head with his hand. Duh! It had slipped his mind to ask her to dance. He quickly walked over to her and once again, held out his hand like a gentleman.

"Would you care to dance, milady?" he asked, almost as if he was in a Shakespearian play. He flashed her his cute and irresistable goofy smile. Cindy laughed.

"I would love to, James." She took his hand, and he helped her stand up. His arms slipped around her waist, and she wrapped her own arms around his neck. Their bodies swayed in rhythm to the song.

All my life, I pray for someone like you

I thank God that I, that I finally found you

All my life, I pray for someone like you

I hope that you feel the same way too

Yes, I pray that you do love me too

As they danced, Sheen, Libby, and Carl watched from the chairs.

"Is it just me, or are their bodies closer together than they were when they first started to dance?" Libby asked with a raised eyebrow. Both of the boys nodded, not taking their eyes off of the two. And it was true. Both Jimmy and Cindy had inched closer with every lyric of the song.

"Cindy," he whispered softly into her ear, "I love you. More than you would ever know, and I'll miss you so much." Cindy smiled and closed her eyes as she nuzzled her head into his shoulder. They danced out the rest of the song, and as soon as the song faded out, she lifted her head off his shoulder, and placed her lips about two centimeters from his.

"I love you too," she whispered, gently brushing his velvet lips as she spoke. She then closed the very tiny gap between their mouths, and kissed him softly, but with deep passion.

As the dance ended, everyone was leaving and hugging every person in the gym. The five best friends were walking the long path to their homes.

"You two didn't fool me for a second all of those years fighting, and the truth came out right on the dancefloor!" Libby said, pointing to the new couple as they walked hand in hand. They both laughed, thinking how silly all of their fighting was.

"Yeah, and I'm glad it did," Cindy replied, kissing Jimmy's cheek. He blushed a light crimson and smiled brightly. All of their talking seemed to make the walk shorter than it was, because they had arrived at the cul-de-sac much quicker than they had expected.

They all waved each other off as they reached their houses for the night, but when Cindy started to walk off, Jimmy told her to stop.

"Hey Cin, what you said earlier this evening out in the park about us never seeing each other again, don't believe it." He smirked as he pulled out a folded up sheet of white paper. He handed it to her, and she unfolded it. A wide grin appeared, and she ran up to hug him.

"You got into the same college as me? Oh, Jimmy, this is awesome! How come you didn't tell me before?"

"I wanted to tell you then, but I was saving it for the right moment. Surprise," he said before he leaned down to kiss her. She shivered again as she was without his coat once more. He took his off, and gave it to her again.

"Here, wear it for now. You can give it back whenever. Well, I'm going to head home. Sweet dreams, Cindy." She waved him off, and she ran up to her door to find it unlocked. He turned around as he heard a knock on the glass window. Cindy blew him a kiss, and he reached up into the air as if grabbing it. He "wrapped it" and "placed it in his pocket." He waved goodbye as he walked home, only to dream about the days to come. And of course, Cindy.

How did you like it? Ah, mindless J/C fluff.. so much fun to write! Can anyone tell me the two references in this fanfic? One, the name of the song, and two, the name of the movie that the kiss that Cindy blew came from. Please review and make an author happy.. again..
