The Song of Departing Spirits

I sit beside the fire and drink
Up all the ale I've stored,
The liquor, whiskey, mead, and wine
that I have thought to hoard.

My alcoholic fantasies
have now been realized;
I revel in my decadence and
Beer up to my eyes.

I sit beside the fire and drink
Two quarts to my good health,
To when I've finished up my stash
And drunk away my wealth.

For there will surely come a time
When I have naught to spend
On alcohol, that fear-relieving
Soporific god-send!

I sit beside the fire and drink
To people from my past,
I toast each one with half a jug
Of gin down to the last.

But most of all I sit and drink
To parties long before,
Where all my friends and I got smashed
And couldn't find the door!
