Author’s Note

I’ve been planning on writing a new Chris story, a story following the show storyline (Chris in the past to prevent Wyatt turning evil) for a long time… so here it is!
To write this story, one fact about the show’s storyline had to be altered, and I did that by using the conversation between Chris and Leo at the end of Oh My Goddess part two.
I took the script from that conversation, only added a little part in between, and wrote it from Chris’ point of view.

Chris sat on the cold, stone stairs in front of the Halliwell manor. The weather was nice, gently, flowers abloom. It was strange to think that in the world he grew up in, things were so different. That these flowers had to chance to show their beauty to the rest of world, while they nearly wouldn’t have. The Titans were vanquished, thank god, but nearly…

Thinking about the fact that the world almost had to face the same future again, the future ruled by the Titans, who slowly created a darker and darker place to live, made him shudder. It couldn’t happen again. He would do anything to prevent the world from going down again… from Wyatt turning evil, again…

His thoughts were interrupted when shiny, blue orbs appeared in front of him, his suspicions being confirmed. Two seconds later he looked straight in the face of Leo, who was wearing a golden robe. And Elder’s robe.

Clearly, Chris wasn’t surprised. He knew sooner or later Leo would come down from ‘up there’, and announce what the Elders had decided. Shivers were running through his body, afraid his question, no, begging to stay here, had been declined and that he had to return to the future anyway.

Hiding his agitation, he made the first move. He didn’t want Leo to begin, he wanted to ask himself where his path from here would lead.

“So did the Elders decide what to do with me yet?”

Leo slightly raised his eyebrows and seemed restrained to share Chris his future from here.

“Well, you’ve been the subject of heated discussion. One thing we agreed upon, is you can’t return to the future.”

Relief, cool, gentle relief spread through his body and slowly relaxed his tensed nerves. It would’ve been ridiculous if they had decided to send him back, but the worries had been there, and it wasn’t so weird. For a moment there, he had thought he had messed with the past too much, making Leo an Elder and all… fearing that while saving the world from the Titans, he had changed so much he lost his chance of staying here, lost his chance of preventing his brother from turning evil.

But he kept the relief hidden, like he hid so much. But he had no other choice. He interrupted his thoughts to go back to his father himself.

“I figured as much. The timeline’s changed, I don’t even know what I’d go back to.” It sounded more than logical when he actually heard himself say it.

Chris noticed Leo still wasn’t in the mood for sharing what was going to happen to him. He wished Leo’d just say it straight away, so he would’ve been lifted from his doubts. Yes, he could stay, but there was still a ‘but’. There always was.

“So… what did they decide?”

Again, Leo raised his eyebrows, and this time he didn’t seem so happy. “The Elders voted to make you the Charmed Ones’ new whitelighter.”

Chris’ eyes spread open and he forgot about keeping restrained, about not showing his emotions. “They did?”

Their whitelighter… this had worked out just as he hoped. Making Leo and Elder didn’t change everything too much, it had been exactly the right thing to do. It made room for him to guide the Charmed Ones. Now not only was he close to Wyatt, to succeed in his plan from preventing the little guy from turning evil, but he was close to the sisters as well. His family. His beloved aunt Phoebe, who had taken care of him when there was nobody else left. His aunt Paige, who he never got a chance to know, when she was killed by the Titans. He could finally be around his mother again…

Leo however didn’t seem in the mood to get emotional.

“As a reward for helping to defeat the Titans. But then somehow, I figured you knew that.”

A slight grin spread across Chris’ face and he avoided Leo’s look, pleased his plan seemed to work out the way he wanted.

“You know, I can’t stop thinking about what Piper said, and wondering myself if this wasn’t part of your plan all along.”

The grin didn’t exactly disappear, but his confidence did. He was onto him. Well, not yet, but he would be. Soon. Leo was going to find out about him and his plan, and he couldn’t let this happen. He couldn’t let him get in the way.

Leo stared at the house at his right, and Chris was surprised to see Leo smile, somewhat sarcastic. He seemed pleased. How could he be pleased?

“It’s not that I doubt you, Chris. Not at all, in fact.” Leo looked back at him, and he wondered what was to come.

“In fact, I have faith in you. I think you have a lot of potential.”

A frown spread across Chris face, along with distrust. “You do.”

“Yes. I, actually, think that you could handle more charges than just the sisters.”

It was as if Leo had suddenly given him a cold shower, literally. More charges… this wasn’t the plan, he didn’t have time for more charges. He needed all the time he could get to save Wyatt! He wanted to argue, but Leo didn’t give him the chance.

“I’m assigning you another charge. Just one more.”

Chris shook his head, disbelief all over his face. “I can’t believe this.”

Leo smiled sarcastic, clearly seeming to enjoy the whole situation. “Yeah, it’s your lucky day.” He worded Chris’ feelings exactly oppositely. “She’s a young witch, 22 years old. You will meet her soon.”

Chris shook his again, firmly. “You can’t do this.” He said determined.

Leo’s pleasure only seemed to become greater with this. “Oh yes I can, Chris. I can assign you anyone I want, I’m an Elder. You made me one, remember?”

Chris had to bite his lip to not jump up and punch Leo in the face. He been a lousy dad his whole life long, and even now, here, when Chris’ technically wasn’t even born yet, he seemed to screw everything up already. If it had been Leo’s decision, Chris would’ve never even become the sisters’ whitelighter. There were no words that could express his feelings towards his so called ‘father’ right now.

The smile however seemed to leave Leo’s face, leaving only a serious, penetrating look.

“Take good care of them, Chris.” he told him, Chris knowing that with ‘them’, he specifically meant the sisters. “Don’t forget: I’ll be watching over you.”

The words added a perfect end to his dramatic exit, where he disappeared in blue orbs. Chris followed the orbs going upwards with his eyes, eyes filled with loath towards the man that would be formed from the orbs, as soon as they would reach ‘up there’.

They couldn’t. The orbs would never reach blissful Elderland, he couldn’t let this happen. Leo was almost onto him, he needed to be out of the way for Chris to do his job, he couldn’t assign him a new charge, but most of all, Chris loathed him.

It was the last reason that made him do it; bored Chris raised his hand, and with one little but powerful flick, the orbs scattered, and exploded into nothing.

Quickly, Chris looked around him, but the neighbourhood had been quiet and abandoned since Chris first came outside. He stood up and quickly walked up the stairs, into the manor, before he looked outside once more.

There was so much more for him to come, so much more to do. But not today.

Once more, he flicked his hand, and watched the front door of the manor close before him, locking out the beautiful world that he was going to save from hell.
