It was breakfast time in the Great Hall. The benches were full of children helping themselves to porridge, eggs, and pastries as the teachers sat at the head table and talked quietly amongst themselves as they ate.
The rushing sound of wings announced the arrival of owls bringing the daily mail. Professor Snape looked up briefly as an owl swooped over his head, dropping a letter into the hands of the teacher sitting to his left.
Professor Potter caught the letter, and immediately ripped it open. Without looking at the man seated on his right, he reached out and tapped impatiently on his arm.
“Severus, it’s from Ron and Hermione.”
As he continued to read the letter, his hand slid down the potions masters arm to rest upon the other's hand. He leant into him, holding the letter up for him to see.
“Oh, Severus, look, they sent a picture of the new baby. Isn’t she beautiful?” he asked, not noticing the tears running down his face, or the stunned looks he was receiving from both teachers and students.
Although Harry and Severus no longer glared at each other, and even sat next to each other at the head table, no one would have described them as close friends. Harry rested his head against Snape’s arm, watching in delight as the baby in the photo opened her mouth in a tiny yawn, small hands drawn up to her chest.
A set of long, elegant fingers reached for his chin, drawing his head aside.
“You are beautiful,” whispered a husky voice, as a pair of warm, thin lips covered his.
Oblivious to their audience, they shared a slow, exploring, open-mouthed kiss.
As Severus wiped the tears from Harry’s cheeks, he looked around, finally noticing the stunned expressions and absolute silence of the Great Hall.
With raised eyebrows and a patently innocent expression on his face, he asked, “Is there a problem with me kissing my husband?”
Albus merely smiled a knowing smile as Minerva and the others began to bombard the couple with questions.
