((Before the blizzard))

Shizuru laughed. She and Kurama had gone for a walk. It had snowed a few days before they'd arrived, and right now it was peaceful.

"Don't you think we should be heading back?" she said after awhile.

"Why, are you scared?" He teased lightly. She just swatted him on the playfully.

"Why should I be scared when I have the strong, fearless, handsome Yoko Kurama to protect me?" A split-second later her face turned pink when she realized what she'd said. Kurama just looked ahead, a faint blush on his cheeks. Did she really just call me handsome? Why do I care?

They slipped into an akward silence. Then, suddenly, Shizuru fell flat on her face. "Ooof!" The moment of embarrassment before was forgotten as Kurama instantly bent down to help her up.

"Are you okay?" he said as she leaned on his arm.

"Yeah...my ankle hurts, though," she said, and to prove her statement when she winced as she put her foot down on the ground.

"Can you walk?"

"Yes," she said defiantly, took a step, stumbled back into Kurama's arms, sighed, and said, "No."

"Okay then," he said and put his arm at her lower back.

"Kurama, what are you--KURAMA PUT ME DOWN THIS INSTANT!" she screamed as Kurama proceeded to pick her up bridal style.

"Would you rather walk all the way, or have me carry you?" he said, trying not to smile.

She grumbled but let him carry her and walk on. Silently, though, her heart was beating so fast she was afraid it would beat right out of her chest. I don't...understand...why I feel this way. Why do I love the feeling of him holding me so much?

Kurama, on the otherhand, was also trying to keep his emotions in check. His demonic instincts were flying, and he was trying not to take her right then and there. For one of the first times in his human life, he didn't know the answers. He knew there was an--attraction to her, but that feeling had skyrocketed by having her in his arms.

Snow started to fall, and Shizuru shivered. Kurama's arms instinctively tightened around her and she laid her head on his shoulder. Finally, they made it to his cabin.

He took her in and laid her on his bed. "Would you like some hot cocoa while I look at your ankle?"

"That'd be nice," she said weakly. It really hurt.

He came back a few minutes later and handed her a steaming cup of hot cocoa. He then sat down next her and set her ankle in his lap. He gently prodded around until she winced.

"That hurts!" she said, her eyes squeezed shut.

"Okay, okay," he said, and stopped touching her ankle. "I'm going to heal it, okay?"

She nodded. But when he set his hands back down on her ankle, she pulled it away. "It'll...be okay. You don't have to heal it."

He frowned concernedly (a/n:is that a word?). "Are you sure?"

She nodded. "Just...sit and talk."

"Okay..." He got up and walked over to a chair. His eyes widened when he glanced out the window. "You've got plenty of time to let it heal. We wouldn't be able to go outside to your cabin with the weather like this."

Her jaw dropped when she looked out whe window, too. You could hardly see beyond a foot or two, the snow was so thick.

"It was only a few flakes when we got in here!" she exclaimed.

He shrugged. "Nature's wrath. It's a good thing you let me carry you, or we'd be stuck in that."

She looked down at her hands (which were in her lap) and blushed slightly at the feelings she'd felt. She was silently thankful that Kurama was still looking out the window. "Thanks for that, by the way."

"No problem," he said and turned to her, unfortunately (for her, anyway) he noticed her slighly pink face. "Are you sure you're okay?"

"What? Yeah. I'm fine."

"You look like you're getting a fever. Here." He walked over to the closet and pulled an extra blanket out. Then he walked back over to her and gently laid it on her, tucking it in slightly on the sides so that no cold air could get in. She snuggled into its warmth. It was a nice, soft, thick blanket.

"Aren't you cold?" she said, noticing that she was laying on his bed (and needless to say, those thoughts ran through her head for a second or two) and, therefore, taking up all the blankets and covers on it, and the extra one in the closet.

He shrugged. "No, not really. If you're still cold I'll light a fire in the fireplace."

"Please," she said. He nodded and soon a large fire was crackling in the fireplace.

He walked back over to the chair and sat down. She yawned. Soon she could hardly keep her eyes open and her last image was of Kurama reading a book by the firelight.

Cold. Why was she so cold? And it was dark. Looking around her she realized the fire'd gone out. Wrapping the blanket tightly around her, she got up and winced slightly. It still hurt but the nap she'd taken had kept weight off of it, letting it heal.

She walked over to the fireplace, and searched around, finally finding a match. Warmth spread over her immediatly as the flames merrily crackled at her. She glanced at the windows, only to see a thick white coating covering up the bottom half of the window. Beyond that snow was swirling madly. Instead of letting up, it had just gotten worse.

Next she looked around for Kurama. He was still in the same seat, asleep, his book laying halfhazardly in his lap. I wonder if he's cold. Without the fire or any blankets... She felt guilty. But how to fix that problem without waking him?

Lay a blanket on him. Yeah...then suddenly she shivered. For two things: 1) She was cold. 2) She remembered the feelings she'd gotten when he touched her. Her mind made up, although she wasn't exactly sure she should be doing this, she gently sat down in his lap, wrapping the thick blanket around the both of them. Within minutes, she was asleep, her head tucked underneath his chin.

He woke up to feel an odd weight on top of him. It wasn't heavy, it was pleasant...familiar. And he was warm. He didn't want to open his eyes, afraid it might go away, but he did anyway.

To find Shizuru gently tucked into him, sleeping peacefully. He gently touched the side of her face. She was so beautiful. Sleep took away all of the feelings of life and left only a peaceful contentment, which shone on her face. He smiled softly and brushed a lock of hair out of her face, silently laughing when a frown crossed her features and she turned her head towards his arm.

The calm he felt, the happiness, of having her so willingly close to him, so warm, he soon felt sleep tugging at his eyelids, and soon they both were dancing softly in the fields of dreams, unbeknowest to anything happening beyond that chair, and beyond that blanket, happy with life and the love that was just blooming.

((After the Blizzard))

"Dude, what's up with everybody? We're all quiet - like." Yusuke said, casting a glance around at the whole group while taking Keiko's hand ("secretly")

"Why should we talk when we have someone like you to fill the void with idiotic ramblings?" Hiei countered, standing oddly close to Botan. No one except Kurama seemed to notice, but Kurama was more occupied with Shizuru.

"We're so sorry," an employee of the cabin reservation place rushed up to them, pretending not to notice the strange looks of some of the people. Money's money... "don't worry about paying for the extra time you had to say due to the blizzard. Usually, when they predict it like this, we take precautions but..." he shrugged. "Is everyone okay?"

A chorus of 'yes'es and 'yeahs' went around. Satisfied, the employee walked off to talk to some other customers.

"Keiko," Kuwabara said, turning to her, "remind me the next time you offer us a trip to the mountains to say yes."

"You liked it that much?" she said, surprised, and turned to find everyone nodding (with the exception of Hiei, who only nodded once.)

"Wow...I guess we'll have to do it again sometime!" she said brightly, and Yusuke and Kuwabara groaned (just to be contradictory), which earned them both a smack. Kurama just shook his head, Shizuru and Hiei looked on in disgust, Botan looked mildly amused, and Yukina concerned, while Keiko's brief moment of happiness disappeared behind her mask of anger. But, secretly, she was happy. This is how it always is...

A/N: Well, do you want more? Maybe I'll do a sequel. Hmmm? It's up to you. Hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I did writing it.
