Nana, Did You Know?
by Marta Layton Last Edited: 04 January 2004

Nana, did you know your choice that day would plague your sons for long years?
Nana, did you know that your son Elros has left Arda's pain and tears?
Did you know I labour still against the coming night?
But even if we last yet, our victory's my plight?

Nana, did you know that my brother's son, through many generations,
Nana, did you know that that boy Estel causes my desperation? Did you know that choice you gave your sons, to live or die,
It passed on to my daughter, and now her choice draws nigh.
Nana, did you know?

No words suffice, no song have I to tell of my soul's pain To think that I, what's more, my wife, shall ne'er see her again...

Nana, did you know, the Peredhil's fate would mar many an age?
Did you know that Firimar's doom would be for me this cage?
Did you know mortality could so plague Elven-kind,
That the child I'd gladly die for, would choose to stay behind?
