Well because I love you all and hate to see you sad, here is an epilogue… kind’a anyway.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Chrono Crusade, Daisuke Moriyama does.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Rosette paced the floors of her room, a certain devil’s ruby gaze following her all the while. He’d proposed the idea that they tell Kate about him, since after all and previously said, how could one hide a devil for four more years?
“Maybe I should say I accidentally summoned you at a séance with Az and Satella and there’s no way to get you back into your world.”
Chrono drummed his fingers against the desk, “Then she would sell me to some government research program…”
“Damn,” she stopped and looked over at him, “What do you want to do?”
“How about the truth?” He asked simply.
“The truth!” The blue eyed teen nearly fell over, “Are you crazy?” She straightened up a bit and acted out the conversation that would come, “Oh yes Mother this is Chrono, he’s my demon lover from my past life, I’ve been hiding him in my room for the past six months after I woke him from sleeping in my grave.”
“…,” the violet haired devil sighed, “Maybe if you don’t use those exact words.”
“How else could I say it?” Rosette crossed her arms over her chest and sat down on the bed, “I say you just live in my closet till college.”
“I’m sick of the closet!” And it was true, the poor guy was tired of having hangers jammed into his back, tired of tripping on shoes, every time she pushed him in there.
“Okay,” she decided to compromise, “No more closet. Do you have a little animal form you can turn into; I could pass you off as my pet.”
He resisted giving her a strange look, “What makes you think I’d have an animal form?”
“Cause you have the whole bat wing thing going for ya.”
He didn’t possess those wings in his current child-like form but knew what she spoke of, “No, I don’t turn into a bat or anything.”
“Double damn,” she searched her mind and found Chrono was right, “Fine, we’ll tell the truth, but you do the talking, deal?”
“Deal.”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Rosette and Chrono sat opposite her mother in the living room ready to explain and tell her that her “dream” wasn’t really a dream at all. Joshua, who already knew the story, was sitting with a bag of popcorn waiting for the fur to fly.
“Mom, this is Chrono.”
“I know, you’ve already introduced us.”
“Not completely,” the girl reached over and took hold of the clock around her companion’s neck. She pulled it, and Chrono, forward a bit for her mother to see, “This is a device that used to take my life away every time he used his super demonic powers.”
Obviously an incredibly confused and blank stare was given back to her. “Yes and you know because of that I died. In my past life.” She released the watch and her grip on her devil. “Remember that field trip to the museum where you yelled at me for leaving without Joshua? That day I went exploring and found an exhibit, it was some old mausoleum. It turned out to be my tomb and when I went inside it I woke up Chrono who was sleeping in there…” She trailed off suddenly remembering something, “Hey, you’re the one supposed to be talking!”
“Heh, heh, well you were so into it I didn’t want to interrupt,” he smiled over at her to cool down her temper and continued, “Rosette left Joshua there because she was taking me here. Since that day I’ve been living in your home without your knowledge. I’m usually accompanying Rosette where ever she goes, even food shopping. I felt it was best you knew I was here after that whole incident yesterday when you found me and fainted.”
“Yeah,” Joshua munched on another piece of popcorn, “I lied when I said she was at the movies. She was just hanging out with Chrono.”
When her mother didn’t respond Rosette stood up and grabbed her hands, “You’ve gotta believe me!”
“I do.”
“I-,” Rosette blinked, “Wha? You do?”
“Yes,” Kate met her daughter’s gaze, “Because after I fainted I had the saddest dream and it seemed so real. I was just so shocked about what you said because… it means my dream was real.” She quickly wrapped her arms around the one in front of her, “Oh, Rosette, I’m so sorry.”
The blonde haired girl struggled in her mother’s embrace, still shocked, “What are you sorry for?”
“For the fate that once befell you.”
Rosette didn’t understand, “Hey, everyone dies. No need to get so upset.”
Kate let her go and looked at her curiously, “You… don’t know what happened, do you?”
“Yeah I do, I died, but I’m alive now so that’s what’s important.”
Her mother peered behind her and caught Chrono’s eye, she saw by the way he looked over at them that Rosette clearly didn’t remember how she died, how close she had been to her dreams, to winning… Rosette had never seen the despair her devil suffered, hadn’t seen Sister Kate and Remington seal him in the darkness of her tomb…, “Yes, that is what’s important, isn’t it?”
-.-.-.-.-
Later that night, after a dinner where Chrono was included, he and Rosette sat back in her bedroom, “I really didn’t think it was going to be that easy.”
The devil glanced over at her, “Neither did I,” he hadn’t thought at all that Kate would regain any memories from seeing him in his full form. Yet it had triggered something that made her experience the worst possible recollection… one Chrono hoped Rosette would never have to remember.
“I wonder what story Mom is going to make up for Dad, she didn’t seem like she wanted to tell him the truth…”
“Speak of which, where is he?”
His former contractor paused fiddling with her new rock collection, “Away on business, Boston or something…” She placed her two favorite pebbles into the same holder, the blue and red contrasting in the white cubical. Once she’d put the rest away she stood and sat next to Chrono on the bed. “Can I play with your hair again?”
He chuckled, “Of course.”
It wasn’t long before she was perched behind him, undoing his long braid, and brushing out the tresses. He continued smiling; thinking in his mind, agreeing with Sister Kate who knew exactly what she said was true. The only thing that mattered, at least to him, was that Rosette was alive.

SY300: Well is this a better ending? Please don’t hate me! Thank you all so, so, so, so much for the reviews. I hope this makes you happy.
Kurama: And even if it doesn’t just lie, she really wants to please you all.
SY300: Anata, don’t say such things. If you don’t like it, merely say it in a kind way.
Kurama: (sweatdrop)
