The Knightettes of the Septagonal Table

Chapter Five

So, the knights and the knightettes sat silently in a circle in Julia’s basement, not sure what to say. The knights all wanted to know where the hell they were. Arthur wanted to know how to get back home to Rome. Julia was wondering if her parents were deaf. Caitlin was counting the dancing fluffy pink bunnies in her head. Jolie for once was not thinking, and Alyssa was planning her next shopping trip. Anna was willing her clothes to dry with her make believe magical heat vision. Keiko was hissing at Bors’s shiny bald head.

“Well, um, first of all.” Julia paused to clear her throat as all eyes turned to her. “You are currently in a basement in New Jersey in the United States of America. It is the year 2005. Anywho, you are all a legend. Myth. Whatever. So therefore, your tales have been made into books, movies, and blah. We,” Julia quickly introduced her friends to the men, “were watching a movie about you.” Lancelot and Tristan still wanted to know what a movie was, so Jolie took over.

“A movie is like a bunch of moving pictures that are projected onto a screen with sound and stuff. That box over there is a television which people watch movies on. So, we were watching a movie about all of you.”

“That does not explain why we are here,” complained Arthur.

“I am getting to it, hold your horses!” The knights, confused, looked around for their horses. Nope, they clearly were not there. “So,” Jolie continued, “we paused the movie to an image with all of you on a hill. When we tried to un-pause it, it did not work, Julia chucked the remote at me, it broke, and there was a flash of light. We heard a loud noise from upstairs and you know the rest.”

The seven manly men all nodded slowly, taking in the new information. Anna finally gave up on trying to magically dry her soaked pajamas and asked to borrow some clean ones from Julia. The two were about to start walking upstairs to get some clothes when Galahad violently shivered. Lancelota finally remembered he was dripping wet, probably freezing, and getting the couch icky. She would need to dry it somehow before her parents threw a fit. ‘A hairdryer should do the trick,’ she thought.

“Galahad stand up and get your butt over here ‘cause I am finding you something dry to wear.” He eagerly did as he was told; a girl’s wrath was not something to be messed with. This he had already learned from the pink package experience. Julia ordered him to take off his mud caked boots and put them in the laundry room. That way she wouldn’t have to clean up as many footprints.

Then the three tip-toed upstairs leaving their companions and cat behind. They first snuck into Julia’s room, where she dug through her dresser drawers and threw a top and pants at Anna who went to change in the bathroom next door. Galahad stared at the walls with an amused look on his face. “Hey does that say Arthur-” She cut him off with a glare. ‘The writing was supposed to be all covered up,’ Julia thought. A moment later, Anna emerged with wet clothes in hand. Now, they had to find an outfit for the young knight.

Lancelota led them quietly into her brother’s neighboring room, gently closed the door behind her, opened the closet, and turned on the closet light. “There has to be something that will fit,” she muttered to herself. Anna, deciding to help, began rummaging through the dresser. After a long, nearly futile search, they emerged with four items.

Julia lay out the clothes on the bed and instructed Galahad to change into them. She and Anna left the room to give him some privacy and waited outside the door. Minutes ticked by and strange thumping noises came from the bedroom. The girls looked at one another and rapped on the door. “Galahad? You OK in there?” There was a muffled reply. “We are coming in to check on you, all right?” There was no answer. The two slowly entered, hands over eyes just in case he wasn’t fully dressed. Not that that was a bad thing…

Anna peeked through her fingers and immediately started to giggle. Julia couldn’t help her self and looked too. The two knightettes had trouble containing their laughter, for in front of them was a very confused Galahad. The too small shirt was on, his belly-button showing. The extremely baggy jeans kept falling down his legs so that you could see the ridiculous striped boxers. Apparently he had no clue how to zipper and button the pants. Galahad was struggling to pull on the black Shady Limited sweatshirt. It was inside-out and his head was stuck in the hole of a sleeve.

Avoiding the pile of soaking knight gear on the floor, Julia walked over to him, tugged off the sweatshirt, and turned it in the right direction. Then she helped yank it over his curly head. He gasped for breath, glad that his face was free again. Arthura continued chuckling as Julia pondered how to best fix his jeans predicament. Blushing, she just decided to do it herself. She hesitantly zipped the zipper and buttoned the button, trying not to get too close for comfort. Anna nearly peed in her pants, rather Julia’s pants, at her friend’s beet-red face.

Julia grabbed the knight’s clothes from the ground and stole the hairdryer from the bathroom to dry the couch with. Then she hurriedly led them back downstairs, not daring to look Galahad in the face. Anna struggled not to wake the adults up from laughing herself to death. Galahad followed behind, constantly tripping on the baggy jeans and losing his hands in the long sleeves when trying to steady himself on the banister.

When they finally made it back to the basement, Lancelota disposed of the wet clothes in the laundry room. Anna made a drum roll and moved out of the way so that all could see Galahad’s new look. Alyssa squealed because he didn’t look too bad. Jolie and Caitlin’s jaws dropped. The Knights of the Round Table and Arthur were too busy laughing at his getup. Julia rolled her eyes and plugged the dryer into the nearest socket. As Julia prepared to use another electronic device in front of the technologically-impaired knights (a bad decision), Alyssa had a sudden idea. She whispered this to Caitlin, who would become her assistant. ‘Her idea was perfect. It would be so much fun,’ she thought. ‘They would give all the knights makeovers.’
