Well... I've tried writing fanfictions, but I honestly just can't pull it off... atleast not yet. I have so many ideas of who Erik just truly might be... yet... I can't seem to find the one that pleases everybody. So. I bring you the Love Song of a Mad Woman.

While you read this, keep in mind. It's my view on the movie. No, the movie wasn't very well done... but the music by far made up for that. And afterwards...I talk about these little qualms us authors seem to be having as to how the Phantom should be played, or how "horrible" or "wonderful" Gerard Butler did. I think some of you ((la la la, not naming any names)) should read it all the way through just for your own benefit.

If Charles Hart (I think?) can write lyrics for the Opera, well then... so can I! Except it's poetry O.o

We filled into the seats
Each row completely empty
It could be said that singers like Carlotta
Scared off many from the title of Opera.
But I sat there in my seat,
With a book written by Gaston,
And a tape of the original cast recording I sat there ready.
The show must go on.

The opening scenes came,
boring... unamusing.
The Phantom is what I came to see
Not some old man who smells of cheese!
But wait... those eyes.
Could it be Raoul?
And Perhaps Meg Giry,
Eyes full from weary?

The opening... I'm reminded.
All too well of Moulin Rouge.
Dear God, that Carlotta.
Go on, Monsieur Scrouge.
You're more than welcome
To shove a sock down her mouth.

WHOA! Is that Raoul? Can it truly be him?
In the book it says he's 40!
Yet he barely looks as if he's grown his pubes!
But what a voice, what a voice.
Of that Miss Christine Daae.
Considerably better, more delicate,more pretty.
Than the original opera singer who sang Christine.
Raoul I don't care for much.
His voice is much too wimpy.
Yet somewhat fitting.
Oh, I don't know what I mean!

That Meg Giry... Considerably better!
And That-... that voice.
Can it be Gerard Butler?
He can sing?
But I thought he was an actor.
Bravi, Bravi!
And his voice... his voice.
How should I decribe it?
Michael Crawford, with all do respect,
Can sing beautifully...
If you prefer the tenor.
Gerard Butler, however,
seems far more appropriate...

Stranger than you dreamt it?
Crawford... he sounds anemic.
Even Sarah Brightman could outsing him!
He doesn't have the gusto,
He doesn't have the appeal.
He doesn't have the raw emotion
That'd make me fall head over heels!

"SING MY ANGEL OF MUSIC"
That's how it should be sung!
It shouldn't be light.
It shouldn't be gentle.
It should be belted out!
Butler, your voice, I have to admit.
It's soothing, and yet.
sexually appealing.

I sat there and watched.
Past the point of no return.
I had subcumbed alright,
I was sold by his performance.
But then I had to stop.
I had to think.
I looked at the book.
I looked at the tape of the original recordings.
Is this truly THE Phantom?
Is this Gaston's Erik?

Now let's ponder this.
seeing how we've had some qualms.
I quote a random author,
"The book was like a police report"
The only clues to Erik's persona
Are hidden deep within the dialect.
Perhaps we should divide this man
Into a table of two.

Let's name one Erik, the more popular one.
Erik, the man behind the mask
Erik, the man O.G. considers dead.
A horribly romantic and gentle soul
Who's only desire and wish
Is to have a bride
A bride of Miss Daae.

But what of our Phantom?
Our diabolical wearer of the mask?
Cold... dark... yearning.
A lover of lassoes, of trap doors.
Perhaps the biggest reason
As to what scared off our young Miss Daae.

Butler portrays both, no?
Does he not sink into each character?
Perhaps it is in the eye of the beholder
Afterall, it is a mere "police report"
The details were meant to be filled with imagination.
This, my good audience, is what fanfiction is for.
And Butler just happened, for me atleast,
To fill in just the right amount of gap.

Now it's your turn,
My hat's off to you.
Fill the empty cold space the book might've left you
Let your soul soar.
Create the perfect fanfiction,
And congrats.
You've made the Phantom your own.

Now excuse me please,
I must go off now.
You see... I've been tipped off to as where Gerry lives.
and I intend to go there tonight.

Weeeelll? Whatcha thiiiink? I'd love to know...hint hint
