Lily's Letter
Summary: ONE SHOT. PART 4 of Dark Lily Series. Post OotP. Harry gets letter from his long dead mother on his 16th birthday, which contains few surprises for him.
With a quick glance at clock he breathed out and counted. '10… 9… 8… 7… 6… 5… 4… 3… 2… 1.'
And when midnight struck Harry screamed in pain. With last coherent thought he cast a silencing charm around his room and dropped unconscious on the floor. It was blessing for his because the pain was only increasing with each passing second. After a half an hour his body started to change to accommodate his new power and talents.
Eight owls and phoenix entered Harry room. ''Hedwig!'' cried out Harry in surprise. He didn't see his owl several days and was quite afraid for her safety. Hedwig flew on his lap and slipped the package she was carrying. Harry affecionally patted Hedwig on her head. With content hoot she flew to her perch. Harry opened a package. He was surprised by its contents. Three rare books on duelling spells, curses and hexes. Harry noticed small message with signatures of all DA members except Marietta.
Harry,
Hope you like our present. We look forward for the DA.

Next was Errol, which carried the package from Mrs. Weasley full of sweets. Pig brought 3 gifts – Chocolate Frogs from Ron, photo of DA members from Ginny and book on Occlumency from Hermione. Imperiously looking owl brought Harry strangest gift. Harry carefully opened the box. He almost dropped it on the floor. He didn't expect a snake as a present.
The snake was beautiful. It was black, but under right light its scales became dark green. Its eyes were deep blue color. ''Massster? Are you massster?'' hissed snake curiously.
''It appearsss ssso.'' Replied Harry. ''My name isss Harry.''
''SSSpeaker. You are truly Massster. SSShiana isss my name.'' Snake coiled around Harry's left arm and flicked its tongue to taste magic around its new master. ''You are powerful, Massster.''
''Thanksss. But call me Harry.''
''Yesss, Mas… Harry.''
Harry turned his attention to rest 4 owls and Phoenix. Fawkes brought Harry few books on various topics and wandholster from Order members. Harry smiled a bit before he read Dumbledore's note.
Dear Harry,
Grigotts surly contact you about your inheritance from Sirius by now. I ask you not to leave your aunt's house for your own protection. Voldemort is still quiet, but I can't get past him to try something when you leave protected area.
Many things happened this year and I feel that you'll need all protection you can get. You are to be left with Dursleys until the start of school year. Your robes, books and another equipment will be sent to you.
See you on September 1st.

Harry was seething. How could Dumbledore left him with Dursleys. 'I have enough of him and his manipulations.' Thought Harry while opening the letter from Ministry containing his OWL results.

''It's hard to decide.'' Muses Harry. ''I already have 3 NEWTs, so I don't have to take DADA, CoMC and Muggle studies.'' He crossed them out. ''Divination, Astronomy and History of Magic isn't my cup of tea either. So it leaves Ancient Runes; Arithmancy; Charms; Herbology; Potions and Transfiguration. Now to additional classes. Healing and Duelling. Curses – that might be interesting. Languages – I don't have patience for it. Magical Government – I'll need it in the future.''
Harry looked at the parchment with his chosen classes. 'It seems I'll be busy in next 2 years.' Harry attached note on Hedwig's leg and sent her to Hogwarts. He was a bit tired but last 3 regal-looking owls waited for him to take their burdens. Harry took the letters and owls immediately flew away. He opened first letter.
Dear Mr. Potter,
We wish to inform you that with recent passing of your magical guardian you are entitled to be emancipated. If you wish to perform the emancipation ceremony please, come to the Gringotts bank during next week. Otherwise magical guardian will be chosen for you. The guardianship will be probably transfer to Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts.

''No way.'' Exclaimed Harry resolutely. ''I have enough of his manipulations… Don't leave the aunt's house. It's for your protection.'' Then with Slytherin smirk Harry thought. 'Ha. I bet he didn't expect Gringotts to send me that notification. I don't care what that old bastard wants, I'll be emancipated.'
Second letter was notification from Gringotts to appear in bank during following week to claim his inheritance (Black vaults). If he failed to claim the fortune, it would passed to next male Black – Draco Malfoy. ''Only in his dreams.'' Commented Harry and smirked maliciously. Harry impatiently opened last letter and quickly started to read it.
My sweet child,
Today you have exactly 15 months. I love you like no other person in the world. Not even James. You are so precious. But whole day have strange foreboding that something big happens. So I decided to tell you truth. You are surly asking yourself what truth? Well, it's hard to write it, so I put it bluntly. You aren't James' son. Glamour and charms vanished from you on your 16th birthday.
Now you are curious who is your father. Well it all began when I was returning to Hogwarts from Easter break. Death Eaters attacked the train and during the battle one of curses broke my time-turner. I woke from unconsciousness few days later in beautiful manor with young man sitting beside me and without any recollection on my past. His name was Devlin Walden. He looked after me until I was healthy again. Slowly we fall in love. We kissed first time after a rain on Devlin's manor. He, his friend Tom and me defended the house. Then about 2 weeks later we made love (don't blush) for the first time.
Certainly you are pondering about the raid on Devlin's manor. You have to understand that I knew everything about your father and what he was doing. He was attacked by Light supporters. Yes, your father was dark wizard as I was dark witch. Your father was Dark Lord Grindewald.
You are shocked right now, I know, but he wasn't that man you read about in history books. He aimed to win freedom and equal rights for everyone – non-humans and humans and right to use light and dark magic equally. He wanted to overthrow corrupt Ministry and establish something like parliament. I absolutely agreed with his views and I'm certain that you too. So I became a member of Dark Trio.
You were conceived during our last night before Devlin was killed by Dumbledore. (By the way don't trust him. He is great manipulator and firmly against all dark. He can't grasp the concept that dark doesn't mean evil.) After Devlin was killed I was heartbroken and lunged into fight with Dumbledore. He hit me with a curse and I went back to my time.
When I returned to Hogwarts Dumbledore started to suspect me, but I managed to erase his memories on me from Devlin's time. In his mind I noticed strange prophecy he witnessed:

Snake Lord will call his followers and
Blood will be spilled; Light will lose hope.
But a child born to offspring of lost love and
Dark Falcon will defeat Snake Lord.
Fifteen years child of forbidden love

But the death of Guardian
Will awake his powerful blood.
Child joins the Snake Lord
And new era of dark will be established.''
I have feeling that prophecy is about you. I don't know why, but I'm almost certain that the child of prophecy is you.
Shortly before NEWTs I found out that I was pregnant. I knew that you need a father and James was perfect candidate. I performed few charms, which hid my pregnancy and slowed your growth. The charms were broken during our wedding night. Slowly I started to like James, but I loved only your father.
There is also another thing. I don't know how it happened but I'm half-blood, not muggle-born. You have to speak with your grandfather. I know that you'll seek him because prophecy made sure of that. Your grandfather is Tom Marvolo Riddle, Lord Voldemort, my friend from my past with Devlin and part of Dark Trio. Please, don't judge him too harshly. He became heartless after Devlin's and mine death.
I'm sorry I didn't see you to grow up. I hope you have good life. I love you my precious son. Please, take care of yourself.

P. S.: In Potter's vault is your magical birth certificate, which confirms every word in this letter. One more thing. Your true name is Derek Renald Walden.
Letter fell from Harry's fingers and shocked expression appeared on his face. Only thing that registered in his mind was that Grindewald was his father and Voldemort his grandfather. Then he broke down in hysterical laughter. ''That hat (gasp) had truth (chuckles). I should (more laugh) have been in Slytherin.''
And then some things fell on their place. How he managed to 'escape' Voldemort for so many times. He was sure that Tom knew about their relationship. Harry was certain that his grandfather made something with Killing Curse when he was one. It made some sense now, when he remembered that Volde… Tom didn't want kill his mother. And when in first year he left Quirrell to die because DADA Professor wanted to kill him. And during their little duel at the end of Harry's 4th year Tom aimed his curses purposely not to hit Harry. Tom let himself to be overpowered by Harry in Prior Incantation. In his 5th year Voldemort led him to Department of Mysteries but he didn't kill him during their fight. When he was possessed, Voldemort freed some negative feelings in him and then he left.
'That's it. I'll write to grandfather.' Decided Harry.
Tom was startled from his thoughts by snowy owl, which was softly tapping on the window. With a small wave of his hand window opened and unfamiliar owl flew in. She dropped letter into his lap and proudly settled on the near-by chair. Tom smirked at the owl amusedly and opened letter.
Grandfather,
I assume that you know who is writing to you. I was surprised (more like shocked) when I read a letter from my mother written shortly before her death. It explains the circumstances of my birth and our relation. Let's just said that I'm proud on my mother, who handled things quite good in covering my true heritage.
Only after her letter I finally understood who was my father and what he stood for. I must say that I actually agree with his views on dark magic, Ministry and non-humans. Dumbledore is too devoted to the Light to actually understand him. I'm not happy with him in this moment (I just realized his role in manipulating my life and in death of my parents).
I gave thought to the things and came to the conclusion that I would like to meet you. ONLY YOU WITHOUT YOUR USUAL FANCLUB. I have some important information for you. And in exchange you can free me from muggles I have to live with. If you are interested follow my faithful owl Hedwig. She'll lead you to me.

Tom smiled in anticipation and turned to snowy owl. ''Hedwig. Lead me to you master.'' With hoot of approval Hedwig flew out of window. Tom transformed himself in his animagus form (hawk) and followed the owl.
For OWL results - Harry was depressed on the start of summer and burried himself in studying. When he was called to retake Astronomy exam and History of Magic, he took also other 3 subjects as well. Harry is very good at DADA andCoMC plus he was muggle-raised (Hermione didn't take Muggle Studies). Harry is better at practical, not theory with exception of subjects he is interested in.
I'll update last part of Dark Lily Series (named Lily's Son) sometimes in next 2 weeks (sorry I have too much work on me lately). More of Harry and Voldemort, fall of Light and maybe I put some pairing in the mix. Until then.
